I lost my mom about 10 years ago. I’d give anything to “make a room for her”. This was so precious. You could see the love you wanted to show her by making it so special. If anyone is lucky enough to still have your mom, tell her you love her ♥️
Same here. I lost my mom 30 years ago. I was 24. She took me to estate sales, garage sales, flea markets, shipshewana, the mall! I loved shopping with her and miss her! So yes, tell your mom you love her if you are lucky enough to be able to!

It’s so amazing how much simple decorations transform a space. Even when the finishes aren’t exactly what you want in the moment, how you decorate makes up for soooo much in the meantime.
Hey @MaCenna - tip to get the hallway linen closet drawers to slide easier. Use WAX to coat the bottom of the drawer and on the inside of the cabinet box (where the bottom surface of the drawer touches the inside cabinet.) Let it dry for a couple of days. They will slide in and out so much easier.
Great suggestion! My father was a carpenter and taught me that trick, he used a block of wax for that same exact reason and sometimes on screws being used in older dry wood. 👍

I like you after loosing my job in covid days discovered that I was willing to sacrifice money for time with my children and I've never regretted it. And I'm sure when they look back on their life, they won't regret it either. X

regarding the bedskirt, just fold it over as needed in the middle, and then use long safety pins to put it together, to keep the size you want. That way, you don’t have to mess with it every time you’re making the bed, and, if your mattress is the flippable kind, then you don’t have to worry about messing with the skirt later on a when you rotate and/or flip the mattress.
Ok, this is one of those moments where I truly felt dumb for not ever thinking of this !!! You just saved me a world of frustration lol. Thank you so much for sharing this tip 😊
They also make wrap around bed skirts which are elastic and just wrap around the frame so it won’t move when the mattress naturally shifts. They also make clamp mattresses holders as well to hold it in place no pad needed.

MaCenna, the way you love your Momma, how thoughtful you are of her, is really beautiful. I love your whole approach to design and decorating. I love a home full of treasures and character and personality. Maybe because this is the way my mother decorated our home and it’s how I now approach my home as well. Choosing items for it because I love them and then finding ways to use them, moving them around as the need or inspiration comes. I appreciate the interiors we find in Architectural Digest or McGee and Co. or some such, but sometimes it makes me feel weirdly anxious or overwhelmed. It’s all so matchy matchy or over designed or something. It feels like a catalogue or an impersonally staged space rather than a home. Your spaces feel like home. It looks beautiful! I have this same bed frame but my husband kept hitting the legs on the frame so I put pool noodles on each of them so now when he runs into them it doesn’t hurt anymore and our bed skirt covers it so you can’t even tell 😊

You should 100% make this room your bedroom!! It fits so much nicer as the master bedroom rather than the one downstairs. The light is so much more beautiful and it's more private! You should turn the bedroom downstairs into a movie room that has a nice couch that can turn into a bed for guests.

Oh, the guest bed and bath are so cozy! A tip for the bed skirt, make a pleat down the center to pick up any side excess, then pin it using T-pins. Works every time.
Love this bedroom and bathroom! That bed looks simple but sumptuous! Such pretty linens. The lights are perfect and the dressing table is exactly right! The mirror above it is very pretty, but not very useful for anyone sitting at the dressing table, though! 😊 But I see you added a standing mirror so it's good to go! The rug looks great there, adding just a pinch of pattern and the color helps to ground the room. Those shuttered windows above the bed make a sort of headboard of their own and are so pretty. I just love this house!
Regarding shower curtain liners, for anyone that doesn’t know this, they are more expensive, but it’s always best to get anti-mildew/anti-mold ones. SO much better for cleaning purposes, and they last a LOT longer too.

The bedroom and bath look lovely, very warm and cozy. I like how you brought in colors you liked, such as the warmer colors, into the bathroom but that still had some bits of blue in them to tie in with the blue in the tile. I like the shower curtain as well, it adds a softness to the harder Iines of the tile and cabinets.
We are adding on/ renovating the kitchen, dining and mud room in our 1974 ranch house which we bought a year ago. Those are the big projects and main bath is on the "B" list for later. However, the main bath needs help so this project gave me plenty of ideas. I went to Target for the same shower curtain as you did - it was just the ticket! It matches the vinyl flooring perfectly! I bought an extra curtain and made a curtain for the window - perfect! I'll paint the ceiling and walls soon to complete the refresh. Major changes will need to wait but with the refresh the wait will be easy! Thanks for all your inspiring and helpful DYI episodes!
Hi from Oz.. heres a tip for your Older drawers..that are not on Gliders ( you may use leftover candle wax) rub the wax ..around top n bottom of both drawer-fronts and along inside of Cabinet and ..t&b of sides of drawers n cabinet (where it runs) ..your drawers will run smoothly without squeakes !!
Amazon sells tabs that you put underneath each corner of a rug that holds it in place and doesn’t damage the floor. I’ve used them for about 3 years now in several rugs and I think they work better than an underneath pad. Your guest bedroom is very restful. 🌿
Watching you decorate with items you already have reminded me of my years of being a military wife and government employee moving from place to place. It was too expensive for us to purchase all new things every time we moved so we purchased items that would serve multiple uses. Thank you for letting me watch this process for you. Brings back good memories.
I agree with the archers round them off a little, fireplace would look so good black or dark brown like your guest bathroom at the cottage. I would definitely change rug to add some warmth ❤️
I just got a bed frame just like the new one you got. The best thing I got to put stuff like that together is a set of metric hex head bits. The little wrench they send with the bed frame can be tossed to the side and you can use a drill. Saves so much time.
Still like the idea of this wonderful and cozy bedroom for you and Romeo once little MaCromeo makes an appearance...you can be on the same floor that way. Love it the way it looks- eclectic and curated. A curved shower curtain rod works really well to leave more elbow room in the shower. Kinsley has excellent supervisory abilities...
Your mom "hugging" the rug in store cracked me up in the vlog, so I was giggling all over again to see that clip in this video! It is a perfect fit for the room! FYI- you may want to store your taper candles elsewhere or separated by color inside airtight bags to prevent them from absorbing all the random scents from the others. As a visiting Mom/MIL ... I love having a guest room with the ensuite bath. Its everythng when you are in someone else home. Even if it is your children. Having the privacy makes you so comfortable. Plus I have a basket under the sink with hair products and body wash and hair dryer, toiletries , shampoos. All my regular things so I don't have to bring them. And a drawer with a robe, hoodie, extra flip flops and sneakers. That way I can just use a carry on when I fly for my clothes and make up. This room turned out lovely. I did love that dark rust pillow with the painting on the wall.
Loved the diamond carpet. Loved the bathroom flowery curtain. Beautiful make overs. I am sure you Mum loved it all. Please do a reveal of the bedroom but at night with the lamps and candles.

I cannot imagine when you really going to finish this room what you will create! For me is beautiful as it is . When you were putting the pillows on the bed, did you hear me yelling, "The floral pattern, the floral pattern!" across half of the US? If you did, that was me! I actually love the bedroom as is--I know you want something other than white, but an off white would be great AND it keeps its peaceful vibe of the room. It's really beautiful. I love that you don't toss everything out and start over with each room you decorate. Some influencers do that and I think it's so wasteful. Flea markets, thrift stores, & Marketplace are the way to go!

Hi MaCenna I just wanted to make a suggestion you may like to try for the little timber table you bought at the flea market for the spare room. Using a fine grade Steel Wool of Wire Wool dipped in bees wax, using a circular motion apply then polish excess off, you may get great results in cleaning and polishing your table with out having to completely restore it. I did my sister in laws dinning room table this way and it came up like new. Robyn from Australia.
You can also use the small mirror as a tray for perfume and a candle, etc. Two shower curtains, MaCenna. The fullness and drape that two curtains give will make your bathroom so luxe.
I love her style, but if it will be similar to the rooms/houses she has decorated so far, it will probably be controversial, because it will be one of those "sad beige/brown baby rooms". :)) There is... some color in her designs, but not the ones that people expect to see in children's rooms.

Beautiful temp makeover of the space, definitely more inviting. I would suggest for the longer term to add a short headboard to the bed just so guests aren’t falling into the window when they want to sit up and read or perhaps sleep more upright. I think the window with the bed could also have the shutters removed and a Roman blind could be put in to allow some light to be blocked directly over their head. You could even add a pop of color with a valance with a French touille that would nod to the scene from the painting.
You can buy tile decals, and put them over the little blue spots on the bathroom tile. Could be something to update it to a color you like until the Reno

This room should be the main bedroom not the one downstairs be ideal then next to the future nursery. The one downstairs should be the guest bedroom. You could put the sofabed in there so it's an extra seating space or office space.

She can even use an old taper that's burned down too far or just looks too tired to use any more.
Our family uses a bar of soap for the the same thing and no need to wait to put the drawer back.

We just have one curtain we put in the washing machine ever so often to prevent dirt and stuf. The double curtains I have never seen here.
Plastic ones off-gas chemicals. Get a plain cotton or terry one for your liner & just wash periodically!
Also you can throw them in the washer on gentle
If you can see it in multiple places get it and no regrets.
You might like a table ledge headboard so puppy can seat and walk on it.

The bedroom and bath look lovely, very warm and cozy. I like how you brought in colors you liked, such as the warmer colors, into the bathroom but that still had some bits of blue in them to tie in with the blue in the tile. I like the shower curtain as well, it adds a softness to the harder Iines of the tile and cabinets.
We are adding on/ renovating the kitchen, dining and mud room in our 1974 ranch house which we bought a year ago. Those are the big projects and main bath is on the "B" list for later. However, the main bath needs help so this project gave me plenty of ideas. I went to Target for the same shower curtain as you did - it was just the ticket! It matches the vinyl flooring perfectly! I bought an extra curtain and made a curtain for the window - perfect! I'll paint the ceiling and walls soon to complete the refresh. Major changes will need to wait but with the refresh the wait will be easy! Thanks for all your inspiring and helpful DYI episodes!
I think even just staining or painting the shutters a warm dark/mid brown will help to warm up the white so much.
Hi from Oz.. heres a tip for your Older drawers..that are not on Gliders ( you may use leftover candle wax) rub the wax ..around top n bottom of both drawer-fronts and along inside of Cabinet and ..t&b of sides of drawers n cabinet (where it runs) ..your drawers will run smoothly without squeakes !!

Amazon sells tabs that you put underneath each corner of a rug that holds it in place and doesn’t damage the floor. I’ve used them for about 3 years now in several rugs and I think they work better than an underneath pad. Your guest bedroom is very restful. 🌿
Watching you decorate with items you already have reminded me of my years of being a military wife and government employee moving from place to place. It was too expensive for us to purchase all new things every time we moved so we purchased items that would serve multiple uses. Thank you for letting me watch this process for you. Brings back good memories.

I agree with the archers round them off a little, fireplace would look so good black or dark brown like your guest bathroom at the cottage. I would definitely change rug to add some warmth ❤️

I just got a bed frame just like the new one you got. The best thing I got to put stuff like that together is a set of metric hex head bits. The little wrench they send with the bed frame can be tossed to the side and you can use a drill. Saves so much time.
Still like the idea of this wonderful and cozy bedroom for you and Romeo once little MaCromeo makes an appearance...you can be on the same floor that way. Love it the way it looks- eclectic and curated. A curved shower curtain rod works really well to leave more elbow room in the shower. Kinsley has excellent supervisory abilities...

Your mom "hugging" the rug in store cracked me up in the vlog, so I was giggling all over again to see that clip in this video! It is a perfect fit for the room! FYI- you may want to store your taper candles elsewhere or separated by color inside airtight bags to prevent them from absorbing all the random scents from the others. (Only if you use them when dining as they can completely alter how food smells & tastes 😉). Have a wonderful & blessed week ahead!

As a visiting Mom/MIL ... I love having a guest room with the ensuite bath. Its everythng when you are in someone else home. Even if it is your children. Having the privacy makes you so comfortable. Plus I have a basket under the sink with hair products and body wash and hair dryer, toiletries , shampoos. All my regular things so I don't have to bring them. And a drawer with a robe, hoodie, extra flip flops and sneakers. That way I can just use a carry on when I fly for my clothes and make up. This room turned out lovely. I did love that dark rust pillow with the painting on the wall.
Loved the diamond carpet. Loved the bathroom flowery curtain. Beautiful make overs. I am sure you Mum loved it all. Please do a reveal of the bedroom but at night with the lamps and candles.

I cannot imagine when you really going to finish this room what you will create! For me is beautiful as it is . For anyone wondering. I have that bed frame. It’s very durable!! Feels better than box spring. Lasts. Holds tons of weight. Kids jumping etc.
I loved this simple transformation....no huge reno but the end result is so calming and inviting. I like the simplicity and the fact that it looks like a room where ALL of us could feel at home and that we could actually achieve the look in our own rooms as well. Another lovely redecorating video.

When you were putting the pillows on the bed, did you hear me yelling, "The floral pattern, the floral pattern!" across half of the US? If you did, that was me! I actually love the bedroom as is--I know you want something other than white, but an off white would be great AND it keeps its peaceful vibe of the room. It's really beautiful. I love that you don't toss everything out and start over with each room you decorate. Some influencers do that and I think it's so wasteful. Flea markets, thrift stores, & Marketplace are the way to go!

Hi MaCenna I just wanted to make a suggestion you may like to try for the little timber table you bought at the flea market for the spare room. Using a fine grade Steel Wool of Wire Wool dipped in bees wax, using a circular motion apply then polish excess off, you may get great results in cleaning and polishing your table with out having to completely restore it.
I did my sister in laws dinning room table this way and it came up like new. Robyn from Australia.
You can also use the small mirror as a tray for perfume and a candle, etc. Two shower curtains, MaCenna. The fullness and drape that two curtains give will make your bathroom so luxe.

I love her style, but if it will be similar to the rooms/houses she has decorated so far, it will probably be controversial, because it will be one of those "sad beige/brown baby rooms". :)) There is... some color in her designs, but not the ones that people expect to see in children's rooms.

Beautiful temp makeover of the space, definitely more inviting. I would suggest for the longer term to add a short headboard to the bed just so guests aren’t falling into the window when they want to sit up and read or perhaps sleep more upright. I think the window with the bed could also have the shutters removed and a Roman blind could be put in to allow some light to be blocked directly over their head. You could even add a pop of color with a valance with a French touille that would nod to the scene from the painting.
You can buy tile decals, and put them over the little blue spots on the bathroom tile. Could be something to update it to a color you like until the Reno

This room should be the main bedroom not the one downstairs be ideal then next to the future nursery. The one downstairs should be the guest bedroom. You could put the sofabed in there so it's an extra seating space or office space.
The curtain in the guest bedroom looks beautiful along with that little pedestal table it almost matches. It's gorgeous.
