As a rental rat myself, can confirm being a stoner/bum. Even my managers are.
You mean the group of four snowboarders that exit the lift and then flop down to form a wall as though no one else exists and has to get past them? Because I see that all the time, everywhere.
My dad (1943-2017) was the ultimate chatty stranger. Everywhere we went, he ended up with a new best friend. On a ski lift one time, he struck up a conversation with a guy who owned some condominiums. The next time dad and his brother were skiing, they stopped by this guy's place, ended up hanging out with him and his wife all week, and remained friends for decades. I sure miss him.

I am the chatty stranger too!! Made many friends over the years!! And also share many opportunities with people I have even taken my friends on vacations!! Lol 😆 because we had extra rooms etc!! I think it is because I am from Minnesota lol

As a brand new skier, I can confirm the coaches are 100% real. They hunt me down like an animal.

Take a lesson, it's worth the money and time. You'll learn more in a day or two with an instructor than you will ever figure out on your own, as skiing is not a natural activity.
Take a lesson 100% especially at my local mountain it was worth it. Lift ticket and rental skis were $95 and the lesson with a lift ticket and skis was $80

Honestly, I've seen people wear jeans at my local hill, seems ridiculous but I'm from Wisconsin and didn't surprise me while watching Charlie!

Caught an edge at this resort (Keystone) and dislocated my hip. It was an icy, early day in the season and I was being an idiot going a bit too fast.
Did that at keystone and went flying. Hurt REALLY bad. I was down for like an our. At the end of the run too. Skiing is tough.

Didn't make me reevaluate shit. Seems like a lot of people in colorado fit into that category though.
I felt the same way. There's a person they are right there like it would be weird not to talk to them right? Unless you are friends sharing in restorative silence it would be weird not to address strangers in such a personal setting.
I tried chatting with a guy once. He had an Ipod or something and ear plugs.
@@paulhare662 Yeah, those listening to music hide their earphones really well. I have a hard time identifying these audiophiles on the mountain. I think listening to music puts them into their own world, or something, because they look really distressed when they’re unexpectedly taken out of their bubble.

Fun fact :
If you're a beginner who accidentally gets on an expert slope because your best friend's older sister likes to mess with you, if you're too embarrassed to admit defeat and endanger yourself enough they'll eventually send rescuers on snowmobiles to ride back down the ski lift with you. At least that's what I've been told . .
This is exactly what happened with me on my first day skiing. I still laugh at the videos I recorded that day.
Lol that is when your ski trip turns into sledding, on the side of the run holding your skis. Actual ski pants slide great, just go down on your ass like a 5 year old. 🤣
I actually saw this one time on Blue Mountain, PA where a skier/rider seemed to have got themselves injured enough that they sent someone to get them medical help and out of the slopes in a stretcher.
I don't know the context because I was riding the lift on the way up.

Other fun characters include- the chairlift struggler, the guy who doesn’t know how to stop but loves going fast, the selfie queen guy.
I was that chairlift struggler. Learned how to ski in Germany with a poma lift or a rope tow. Got on my first chairlift thinking how hard can this be? Fell flat on my face every time. Chairlift operator had to lift me up quickly so neither of us would get run over. I took it as my cue to take another lesson.
I love chatty stranger's, they make me feel more welcome and comfortable. Especially if I'm on a hard slope and someone comes to help, like THANK YOU 😂

Ohhh, the instructor who takes a novice down their first blue run without telling them - and you don't realise it until you're halfway down, and then there's no alternative but to keep going and try to keep the screaming to a minimum. (Apparently they all do that, because 'If I'd told you we were going down a blue run you'd have never followed me.") At least when I did do my very first authentic yard sale, I got a round of applause from the people on the lift overhead.
As a ski racer, watching the go pro kid is completely accurate.

Growing up skiing in Utah, there were no lift bars, at least in the 90s when I learned. Or helmets.
There are lift bars now. Still no helmet for me😅
Went snowboarding with some work friends with very little experience who struggled massively with the green and blue runs but had a blast at the "magic carpet" area, so funny. Then to the bar of course. They considered it an epic day on the slopes 😄
And I bet you paid for a full day, full mountain pass.

@@ezryder111 If there was more than one of them, then why didn't you just excuse yourself and hit the higher runs. I used to ski with a friend who just struggled with the lifts, and I would do three runs to her. I always made sure to get on before her, so she didn't take me off too.
@RiverWoods111 oh I did, this video just reminded me of the different perspectives of people at different levels. I wasn't mad at my friends at all, I just found it funny how stoked they were at kiddy terrain then quit early to hit the bar 😅
May I say as a beginner snowboarder, learning as an adult, that for us even 3-4 runs down the slope are absolutely destruction? ahhahah I did 5 times the blue on the last time I went (4th time in my life) and after 1-2 runs I totally needed a pause on the lodge for a snack or just water and rest hahaha
And even then, it's a blast, me on my second day doing the easy slope two times was already totally "an epic day on the slopes" for me hahahah

Ah, that's really funny! Well done! I'm the chatty stranger, including the thrift store skis and boots. Also wear an old ratty hoodie. I started on quality equipment 50 years ago and now I'll ski on damn near anything. Goes without saying that I'm prepared to discuss anything. Or anywhere!

I miss snow 😢 my dad said that snow used to be as high as his truck in winter, now it’s more and more rare, it only snowed a few times last year…
Here’s another type of person you’ll meet specifically on the lifts: The Lift Weirdo. One time I was skiing in New Hampshire with a buddy of mine on a school trip, and while we were on the chair lift going to one of our runs, we were watching the other skiers and snowboarders going down the hill. One of these skiers I thought was another one of my friends so I watched him go down and after he passed my chair I looked up at the guy in the chair behind me, and this dude is no joke passed out on the chair with a box of cheezits. And we had just left the lift station not 5 seconds prior. I sat there utterly in awe of this man.
The first time skier bit brought back a lot of painful memories I had tried to repress, so thanks for that

I moved to Ohio from Massachusetts when i was in my early 20s. You better believe that since i moved, "ope, lemme just squeeze right past ya, kehd" has become my mantra.

Perhaps Wisconsin cheese is the best if you get it in Wisconsin, but I suspect when it is shipped across the country it isn't treated properly because the Wisconsin cheddar I've had has been inferior to Tillamook. It ends up being about the same as Vermont cheddar.

There’s nothing better than on the chairlift with some random stranger going up like the longest slope possible that it will take like 10 minutes and you’ll just having a unforgettable conversation with someone that you would never known in your entire life but you’re having the conversation of your life
