After 3 months of swimming I can actually already do this 🙏 anyone new, don't give up and try to find a local triathlon swim coach or someone who can help you through technique. Don't feel intimidated of those who are already proficient, most people are super encouraging and supportive
So yo are telling me that you did not have previous experience swimming at all and you started swimming as an adult and in three months you achieved 400m in 8 minutes? Either you are lying or we miss the chance to see another Michale Phelps
@@santiagovinay The same happened to me too. 1 month of training : 8'30 for the 400m. 6 months of swim I was already à 6'53. I had no previous experience in swimming except the mandatory lessons in middle school which were almost 10 years before I started training.
I just learned how to swim without a coach few months ago. I was at around 13.20 min per 400 continous which i know is super sloww.. im now at 11.50.. goal is to under 11 in the next three weeks. My progress has been slow but ill get there.
What helped me is dumping pool toys and drills. I learned to swim without getting good at drills. Video taping myself swimming and learning what I was doing wrong was the biggest factor in dropping 30 seconds per 100 off my times. Effortless swimming videos here on UA-cam was huge in my improvement.
BTW , thank a lot for one of previous videos with simple and minimalistic program. 3 sessions per week. Long(400-500m intervals with 2’ rest), Short (100m with 15” rest) snd Medium (200m with 30” rest) . Simple. Adjustable. And it works :)
This is really good. I struggled to swim more than 50 front crawl, so started 50 fc then 50 breast and repeated for 1km. No breaks. Now happily swimming at 1.52 per 100. To me it’s all about pool time and cardio. 1st Ironman did the swim in 72 mins😀😀 (I’m sure the wetsuit and drafting did the work though lol)
I have a swimming background and was a sprinter when I was swimming competitively. I have always defaulted to broken sets while training and faster work but recently have started to swim more like I train when I run. Now I do intervals, speed variation (fartlek) or tempo pace without a break in my swimming; it's generally 2 miles per session with some sort of 'workout' built in. It seems to be helping significantly but I'm not sure if it's the structure or just that I'm throwing something different at my body than it's had in the past. I wish I could find more advice or direction for advanced swimming...although I'd probably be better served by working on my cycling more (its awful) :D
I am in the exact same position man. I used to swim competitively and recently registered for Full IM Cozumel 2021, man am I bad at cycling. I'm currently focusing more on cycling and running and I'm just swimming one day a week. As november gets closer of course I will increase my swimming load but for now I need to focus on not getting too tired cycling and also getting a little bit faster. Reference times: swim 1500m at a 1:30 pace, run 10km in 53min, ride alone 80km in ~3 hours
100 m- PB: 1:14, 400 m-PB: 5:56, 1000 m-PB: 15:34, started swimming as an older adult. Would be nice to do 1:12 for 100 m, sub 5:50 for 400 m and sub 15:30 for 1000 m.
My long standing target is sub 20 for 1500m. Got to 21.15 before the pandemic but back to square one now! Personally, I really hate drills and technique work but I know how important they are. An explanation of purpose of the drills suggested may help those who aren't clear about why they're being asked to do them.
I’m trying to beat a record from one of my swim mates before in a compe. And his record was probably 6.21 or 6.08 and my record is very close to his so I hope I get faster.
@@KoenvanderKouwe swimming was my main sport, so I know about decent times from when I competed, but that was many years ago now. My 1500 time as part of a tri was sub 16m 30secs, but I was mainly a breaststroke and IM swimmer.

Feeling for the water by moving your hands side to side to move you forward. Not a complete stroke, but a technique to improve your technique for finding water you can really get ‘hold’ of. It will improve how much you can move yourself efficiently through the water
@@richcrompton6891 Of course it is! For some reason I had my sea-survival head on where skulling is done on your back, and I was pretty sure you didn’t mean that 😄
I have to be able to swim the 400m in 5 minutes or under to be considered for the regional synchronised swimming team. I can do it in 6 : 51 at the moment, it’s crazy because we only swim for our warmup and never swim in our training and routines.
Great training aid that wasn't mentioned is a waterproof wallet or waterproof note pad so you don't have to memorise all the session details - write it down, whack it poolside and off you go
What are your swimming targets? 🏊♂️

Don't drown.
400m - 2'/100M isn't a beginner pace?
Sub 8.50 800m

There’s nothing wrong with drills or toys. They just need to be used properly and you still need to do enough just swimming.
I have a lifeguard test in few days i hope i can accomplish that!

Finally an attainable time also for normal people 😀

LITERALLY
Really a nice topic.... Nice
The swimming baths here only allow 45 minute sessions. It makes endurance sessions a challenge
Broke 5:30 yesterday. How can 5 be broken Mark?
Swim faster
Try 400 in a 25 yard pool 😉 that’ll save you 8% or so.

I’d like to get near to 7:15 for the 400
Why u planning to start a family?
I can do less than 8 for 400 m. But not consistent. Depends on what i do during day time. Speed not a problem. I just sometimes lose it before 400 m
Is it ment to be 20s per 25m rest at the speed training or after for example 8x25m 20s rest?
Nice video❤
Breaking the 4:00 min for 400 m
4.20 is a realistic target for being competitive. Sub 4 and you might be compromising your transition speed
