    I think the whole idea is that neither economy does cope. Ukraine is 100% reliant on western aid, and Russia is 100% reliant on fuel sales while reducing imports for obvious reasons.

    • @SakiniCZ

      The main question then is, what stops sooner, Russian exports or Western money - I would not bet on the continuation of the latter, many elections are incoming, and the populace is not happy.

      @@SakiniCZThe West will hold, Russia will scramble.
      Biggest risk to Ukraine will be when Russia withdraws.

      Russia has walked into a catastrophy; it's pensions will evaporate. The west will be shook, but will not crumble like Russia will. Russian fellow travelers telling us the West will collapse are the same people who told us Europe will freeze. Rusians pensions are going to burn up.

    • @ChristiaanHW
      @ChristiaanHW Рік тому +47

      @@SakiniCZ yes, the West is not happy but we also know Ukraine isn't to blame for it.
      Russia started the war just like Europe became victim to Nazi Germany 80 years ago. so we can sympathize with the Ukrainian people.
      and of all the things in the West to be unhappy about only inflation is really because of the war (all the other things were already there).
      and that is only high because we're transitioning from Russian energy to green energy and the blockade of Ukrainian food by Russia.
      we could always introduce some extra windfall taxes for companies using this war to line their pockets.
      or redirect some of our aid for foreign countries to Ukraine (like from countries that take our money but at the same time act against us)
      and because of the decent welfare system in the West the most vulnerable people are taken care of.

    • @SakiniCZ
      @SakiniCZ Рік тому +14

      @@ChristiaanHW If it only was that simple with inflation, life would be so good. And who will do a windfall tax on the weapons manufacturers? Politicians? Those who ate being paid by those manufacturers? Secretary Austin was on the Raytheon board, and will return there after his term - nobody will do taxes on their wins. Let us talk about the situation after six months or so, or maybe after all the US bond holders begin to sell them by lot... You have a very idealistic view of the situation, good for you, I have a realistic view and it doesn´t look good.

      Ukraine has an unlimited warchest cause the US can just "print" a 100 or 200 billion and it wont affect the dollar at all. Russia is in a bind since it has to sell its resources for a much cheaper price but it can still earn money to buy foreign stuff and is self sufficient when it comes to energy and food. I don't think this video really covered either countries' transition to war economy. A pie chart on public spending comparing current and pre war in percentages and absolute terms would be a good place to start, it can lead into what services are being cut and where most of the dollars go. A similar chart on public finances should inform on changes to tax base and new sources of finance. It is unfortunate I am no better informed after watching the video.

    Oppression and repression are two words we often use interchangeably, assuming them to have similar meanings. However, there is a distinct difference between oppression and repression. Oppression is usually done by one group of people to another group, whereas repression can be something one does to one’s own desires and impulses.

    Hats off to Kings and Generals for remaining a reliable source of information and insight unlike multiple other Western-based channels after the war on Ukraine, and I must say that complimenting Mevedev for his dancing prowess while disregarding Zelensky's Piano skills, even if unfair, spiced up the video in the end.

      Maybe next time they should include input from sources other than Ukrainian...considering how in Ukraine they are not allowed to speak against their government or express any pro-russian views.
      It would also be helpful if you didn't vilify Russia...that way you can debate other side of the story instead of immediately dismissing it as propaganda.

    I wish you'd avoiding terms like "shock doctrine neoliberalism", even though you might be in the ball park as to what is implied to some degree, this is a needlessly political viewpoint which hardly is subscribed to from the general audience. To articulate something more factual and neutrally charged shouldn't be too difficult. The fact that someone propagates this term does not mean its legitimate.

    Perun said something pretty fitting in his video about war economies. "War economies work until they don't."
    Best example is Germany. Nazi Germany managed a war economy for years without any new foreign reserves coming in. At the start, every time the Germans conquered another country, they went into that country's central bank and took all the foreign reserves. That stopped after 1941

      @@robyoung703 He is making a point about the severe damages to a country's economy that results from being a colony of Russia, and that it takes decades to get it up and running again, when Russia keeps trying to keep it in its own dysfunctional economic sphere. He is using Ukraine as an illustrative comparison to, for instance, the Baltic countries, who luckily escaped Russian interference and threats of violence and is now much better off than Ukraine and Russia both. He is likewise expressing joy at the much better economic and security prospects of Ukraine as future members of the EU and NATO once the Russian occupying forces has been booted.

    Under no circumstances Ukraine comes out in the positive from this conflict. Russia has oil, and with already heavy sactions on major producers Iran and Venezuela, the West can not afford to ban Russian oil sales. So Russia will always have the advantage. The sooner Ukraine and Russia sit on the negotiation table, the better it's for the world. West can not prop up ukraine for ever.

      @@darkgalaxy5548 Full sanctions on Russian oil causes a run on the middle eastern oil & gas. And with Saudis not exactly in a friendly terms with US & already heavy sanctions on Iran & Venezuela, that results in high oil prices. The West is already struggling with inflation, a massive increase in oil & gas prices causes massive internal turmoil. Russia benefits from high oil prices , India, China & the 3rd world countries do not have any obligation of joining in the sanctions against Russian oil. It's a double edged sword. And it's gonna cut Ukraine any which way it goes. Russia atleast has some positives to look forward to.
