Not only are sanctions on Russia failing, these sanctions are making the EU irrelevant to all Eurasia. Once large regions of the world realise they can live perfectly without trade with Europe, without earning or using the Euro, Europe will lose all influence and relevance to them. I have to say in spite of a detailed coverage of this EUs effort to curtail Russia's economic interests on it's Eurasian perimeter. It is artless to expect it's small neighbors to harm their own negligible economies to give up cross border trade with no alternative opportunities to compensate for that. Brandishing EU flag doesn't address damage sustained by those countries and an impact on balance of payments. One could argue a loss of access by a dainty state like Georgia to Russia's market may totally crash it's tiny economy. The rest of the pack are no different with their economic growth tightly underpinned by it's exchanges with Russia. Further more Russia's geographic proximity couldn't be preponderated by EU membership ( an arcane prospect) to wean these countries dependency on it's big neighbor.

This is a minor route into Russia compared with the three rail lines from China and the shipping route across the Caspian Sea from Turkey and Iran. Several EU countries are also selective in how they apply the sanctions, for example, the destinations of goods going into the docks in Amsterdam and Rotterdam where Russian ships dock to deliver shipments for third countries. US oil companies broke sanctions with the UN oil for food program in Iraq so why expect other countries to obey them. With BRICS countries covering over 25% of global GDP and would be BRICS countries a major slice of the remaining 50% after the West's slice the sanctions are like a sieve that hurt only the Western nations who have lost access to cheap energy, grains, and rare earth minerals as well as exports markets. Germany must be proud to have such an effective Chancellor when it comes to deindustrialization and the adoption of a 17th-century green economy.

Incidentally, PPP GDP is a better way than regular (nominal) GDP to measure an economy's capacity for consuming raw materials and producing goods.
I once lived under sanctions, and from that experience, I can assert that imposing sanctions on a country is one of the most foolish strategies humans could devise. They rarely impact the intended targets. We all inhabit the same planet, so surely there must be alternative solutions. Moreover, it raises the question: why has the US never faced sanctions for its actions, such as the invasion of Iraq, the Vietnam War, or the illegal bombing of Serbia?

The Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union was signed on June 27, 2014. At first, the document worked in a temporary application mode, and fully entered into force on July 1, 2016, when the ratification procedure was completed. In the Georgian mass consciousness, the signing of the agreement caused euphoria, was perceived as a stepping stone on the way to full membership in the EU. The population was almost not informed about the real content of the document, the government and the opposition did not conduct discussions on this topic. No one explained to the citizens that there is a huge gap between the association and the actual entry. No one reported that similar agreements with the EU were signed, for example, by Algeria, Tunisia, Chile, which definitely have no European prospects.

Now its 278 million euro per day, and graphs are showing, that India and China are not taking that part that EU is not taking anymore, so they feel it. also look at the ruble worth, you can see sanctions are working, but they are intended for the long term, not short term
Long term really?? Long term economic structures of countries adjust, it's futile to sanction a country as big and economically structural strong such as Russia, Sanctions do not work, never worked for North Korea and somehow would they work for Russia ???
Why would German companies complain!? They are still able to sell a lot of cars , its just a bit longer route to the customers... There is no legal way to stop this from happening... I am sure a lot of people from Kazahstan, Armenia, Georgia and other countries are grateful for these sanctions ... Georgian people, if you want to join NATO and EU its wide open doors, thats all that EU and NATO people talk about , how to make Georgian people part of EU or NATO....
Europe is the biggest loser of the sanctions, because Russia's low-cost production, both of primary energy certainly, but also of fertilizers and many other commodity-based manufactured goods going to Europe are now going to China and going to the rest of Asia. And Europe is in outright recession
Russian economy is falling appart, everyday we find out they had to tighten their belts from all directions. EU can survive the sanctions, but Russia dosent only need to survive it needs to continue the war, which isent going great for them. They had removed money from walefare, education, maintaince, support for Armenian recently, support for other nations, removing funds for lots of projects that would expand their industries. That list goes on and on. What did EU need to change? going slighlty more green, and work with diffrent partners. Not a whole lot.

While in urban areas youngsters speak english and almost no russian.
The problem is that if you impose sanctions on Russia's neighbors, they will unite with Putin against you. This is a very bad idea. We need a selective application, the study of companies that import prohibited goods into Russia and the imposition of sanctions on these companies, individuals. It is impossible to impose sanctions on Russia's neighbors because they are forced to trade with Russia. Armenia used to have more than 60% of its total trade with Russia. If Armenia stops trading with Russia, then its Armenia economy is destroyed.
Yes, the World can stop putin. They can stop russian fascists. But instead they say the right words and do the wrong thing. I'm so ashamed to be human. I am so ashamed to be a part of this so-called civilized world.

the main issue is that someone in the western countries is selling to this countries, KNOWING it will get to Russia. Georgia, Armenia and so on are not the cause of the problem.
The main problem is that someone wants to live as before and not pay for anything. What does Europe produce that Russia or China does not? That's right - nothing unique. All processors that are manufactured in Taiwan are made on machines with our technologies.
A country with such influence on the market and gigantic resources cannot be isolated without damage in return. Half of the population of Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan works in Moscow (in one city :)). If, at the whim of the West, they begin to comply with the sanctions (while the Western countries themselves obviously do not), then they will pay dearly - primarily from an economic point of view. Do you think that the USA drinks Georgian wine!? - no, of course it's Russia ...
Dear DW Team, I am desperately looking for a report covering the EU decision to allow Azerbaijan to import Russian gas and resell it to the EU. Since there has been a lot of talk about Sanction circumventions, I believe that we Europeans have a greater responsibility than small states in the Caucasus, that rely on Russian trade for survival. And before we start asking them to accept rising prices and put themselves at a disadvantage for the sake of Ukraine, we have to be willing to do it ourselves first. Just to make sure my message gets through: Azerbaijan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the EU, stating they are able and will deliver a certain amount of Gas to the EU. Since they are not able to fulfill the contractual obligations, they started importing Russian gas. So the EU buying Russian Gas through a third (autocratic) market and therefore undermining its own sanctions. But hey, lets put the focus on small economies instead so we can cover our own corruption.
The gentlemen who impose sanctions have limited free flights through Russia and the delivery of goods by a shorter route. All of Europe is now suffering from rising prices. Against which economy were these sanctions imposed, really against the Russian one?🤔
Most people in Europe dont want to freeze their buts in the winter, or pay extra price for everyday consuming products (Putins inflation), or take a shower once a week. So you could do that

People always find the way to make a living. I remember like in 1980s we smuggled liquor from Poland to Sweden, Denmark and Norway, very good money. If you think that law abiding norsemen didn’t appreciate our hard work your are mistaken. Bottle in Poland cost about 80 cents US in that time , we get 100 krona for it, a little over 7$ us. After all necessary bribes and expenses we get 5x return on our investment each ferry trip. The best time of my life, I put myself through university doing that.

Keep in mind that the EU and organisations like the WEF want change in the mind of the people of the EU, for example regarding the use of energy. Why hasn't von Der lyon been dismissed for the utter incompetent she is. Her sanctions against Russia have had the exact opposite effect.
Nobody really cares about the ant traffic on trucks. We know where Georgia will aliign when the fat lady sings, and it sure isn't hell with failed Russia.

People are being killed in Ukraine every day with missiles and bombs made in Russia with foreign parts, or in Iran, or China. Arguably the most fertile lands and waters in the world are being poisoned. I don't understand anything...
If measured using the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) criterium, which eliminates distortions caused by uneven exchange rates, then the BRICS GDP is over 30% of the global GDP and actually higher than that of G7. The same criterium has China's GDP above that of the US.

I think after 2014 (when flight MH17 was shot down with the majority of families being Dutch couples / families, we (and the EU) put sanctions on Russia in which Russians in return would boycott specifically products from us (the Netherlands). The flower and produce market is kind of big here, but exporters to Russia would almost immediately just go via alternative routes. They would for instance go to Poland, have them repacked with some stamp telling it was now a product of Poland. So it's from both sides in general that people will trade and it will find it's way. But I can also assure you the oligarch not having access to hundreds of mllions to billions of euro/dollar, and their mega yachts taken away, does hurt them. And in the end they share power too.
