This adventure game based on the titular hero from the Eagle comics was pretty innovative for its time. The artwork and layout of the screen mimics the style of panels used to depict the story, and the box-out imagery and captions lend the game a sense of authenticity.
The contextual interaction system is also quite unique. Pressing down and fire cycles through a list of possible interactions with items and scenery, although certain options won't appear unless Dan is carrying the requisite item. I loved the fact the developers had a sense of humour - not all of the interactions yield fruitful results, but experimenting with them is a lot of fun.

Had and played this version in th 80's but never finished it. Thanks for letting me see it completed!
You're welcome :)
Snap
I LOVED this game, even if it looks a bit like Dan is sieg heiling when he punches!
He's even kind of dressed like a Nazi, too. I know that's not what they were going for but I really thought that back when I was a kid.
Loved this! Could never get far but loved it!
Great game and tune
very adv concept and graphics for the time...
The captured the cartoon style really good with the graphics, also animations are really nice! The part where the end boss sits on his pedestal and shoots you from above reminds me of the first Fallout game. Maybe the Fallout devs like Dan Dare? :)
Stripey is adorable.
I think I only completed about 5 games my entire C64 gaming childhood. This was one of them. The sequel was good too, it was much faster and changed genres to a shoot em up (Dan and enemies flew about on hoverbikes).
Pity Dan Dare never got adapted to TV or streaming media. Who wants to see Dan Dare: Pilot Of The Future as an Amazon/Netflix Original? And who would you cast as Dan Dare?
Really cool 😎
Big like for ya
Great Game.
Amazing how they got this out of the c64vat the time
I loved this so much back in the day. Still do! Got as high as 79% in one of my videos but 100% isn't possible. Doesn't matter anyway.
The score system is a bit dumb - why reward the player for visiting a screen that's effectively a dead-end?
It had the same idea as Wizard's Lair and Starquake, only not as accurate.
Great video. There wasn't a part where Dan disguises himself as one of the alien guard?
I had no idea there was a Dan Dare game
There's 3 of them!
Needs to be ported to next gen would certainly sell well
There is no need to fight so many treens.
Its amazing how atari can get games on ps5 but commodore dont even get acknowledged
69% completed... Has anyone completed it at 100%? I wonder if it's possible
The completion is tied to visiting every room in the game, some of which really serve no purpose. It can probably be done, but it's a bit of a dumb score system because it's really a "sightseeing" score, not actual completion.
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays When I played, some years ago, I think I tried to visit every room, but I still couldn't manage to get 100%, but yes, it seems a bit of a dumb score system
Please note that punching in wrong alternatives costs you a little bit of life each time, if I am not mistaken.
Not the most aurally exciting game on the old breadbox.
