What a beautiful game, both in it's visuals, audio and execution. Truly astounding. Little things like in game music AND sfx without clashing is something that could be overlooked. Even cast to a big screen it looks 'delicious' and silky smooth at all times. The fact that Sam takes on new outfits with new abilities maintains interest as you progress through the levels; even just to watch. This is gameplay done properly. Simply wow!!! 👌 👏
"Being big fans of side-scrolling platform games, we realised that most great titles of that genre had beer released on video game consoles, like Nintendo's NES and SEGA's Master System, but rarely on home computers. Being big fans of the Commodore 64, we decided to take the challenge of creating a console-style platform game for that very computer. "Sam finds himself on an unexpected journey in a strange world. He has a lot of basic moves in stock, such as running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and carrying items. But, if Sam collects a special costume he changes his appearance completely and even gains additional skills! While the fast free-direction scrolling, the huge levels, the many enemy creature or Sam's transformation from a ninja to a pirate were quite tricky to implement, the hardest part was actually to fit all those game mechanics and features into the limited memory of the C64. -- Chester Kollschen, designer and programmer (Sam's Journey, C64)
masterpiece! If this game had been released in the second half of the 80s it would have been a global success and would certainly have been ported to the main 8-bit consoles of the time! It's always impressive to see what great programmers, designers and musicians can do with this 1982 hardware!
Absolutely stunning graphics! Soundtrack is also very good, quite amazing how well music and sound effects work together, with just 3 channels of sid chip. I recently completed 100% blind playthrough on real C64. Definitely not an easy task to find everything in every level. Those levels are pretty huge.
I dont like this kind of games, cause im not good at playing them. But, the game is georgeous in other aspects like colours, coding, music, etc. The gamer is oustanding in playing It carefully without mistakes. Jeep going AL!!!
Whilst I'd seen the odd post on twitter & screenshot, never saw any decent gameplay...really brings you back to the late 80's early 90's when the likes of Apex, Cyberdyne, Manfred Trenz,& System 3 games like Last Ninja 1 & 2,or Myth felt like the C64 had some sort of upgrade in their hands! Could've easily slotted right in! (Not forgetting the earlier legends like Braybrook,or Archer etc., either obviously!) 👍
It should be illegal for a C64 game to look this good.

This dosent feel like a game that should belong on a system like the C64, but more like a game that should belong on the systems of today.
Absolutely stunning. Huge respect for the coders 🤙

C64 or sega mega drive?
Which emulator do you prefer for C64?
Vice has been the gold standard for the C64, VIC 20, PET, 128, etc... for a couple of decades now.
Just what I need for a lazy weekend during a blizzard :D
Very impressive
