I drove this car as a loaner during some maintenance on my 335i. I was very impressed with the overall quality. Nav, Heads Up Display, Comfort, Sport, Cold Weather... the start stop wasn't as intrusive as I thought. Handling VERY good, comfort VERY good, Amenities excellent, fit and finish GREAT. Beautiful car. Great pickup for a 4 cylinder.
OMG this guy is awesome not just for the good review but because he's the first reviewer to know what a twin scroll turbo is. Half the damn reviewers are like "it's a twin turbo."
If you really don't like the Auto-start stop function, your BMW dealer can disable it complimentary. And it's not as violent as he's making it out to be. Just takes a little getting used to but nothing to get upset over.
@Harukoozt because the headlights are I believe 30Hz and the camera is 60Hz so u see the alternation. its something around that. or the camera at 30Hz and the lights at 50hz.
One of the best used car bargains. Actual hp is 268hp / 295lbs with the 8sp auto. Easily boost to 320hp. Plus, my StopGo is not intrusive at all, 2013my.
I'm in the market for this specific year, having a hard time trying to track down coral red interior with white exterior. Found a Grey metallic with the red interior might end up just getting that one. Anything i should know? going to be my first bmw, have been researching them for quite some time. Do you recommend i buy it? Mostly going to be using it for uber/lyft so I probably am going to get automatic transmission. I can imagine it being much better than manual , thinking ahead of those san francisco steep hills haha.
I so nearly bought one in late 2022. It was one owner full service history but its timing chain reputation put me off. Got a 2013 mercedes e350. So far so good
Full colour as in, when you have navigation on, and you pull up at a junction or a motorway exit, it will show the exit in colour and show you which of the lanes you need to pay attention to.
In only works well with hybrids, where the electric motor can accelerate you while the engine is starting up. Plus it's a fuel saving technology which goes well with the point of a hybrid
I just don't know why lots of dealer do not order the LED light package for the 3 series. It's just $800 add-on package for the LED angle eye, but make a huge difference! Add them on if you plan to get the new 3 series
the led headlights are gorgeous on the 3/4 series! sad that more people don't order the option, infact in the last 2 years I've only seen the led headlights on maybe 4 cars.
E46 is one of the best looking 3 series ever made Yes the new one looks good I'll agree to that, however the E46 has its own..."poise" especially the E46 M3 coupe ahhhhhhhhhhhh.........
In today's interest rate environment if you have the CASH, it's a decent move. If you have to finance or lease it and are pretty much broke, your money needs to go other places first. Emergency fund, retirement contribution, etc.
If you think the blinking, that's caused by the camera framerate. All led lights flash the whole time. It because of the principal how they work (wikipedia). They just blink so fast human eye can't see it. If you have some led light at home, try pointing some camera on them and you will see them blinking.
You are right when the subject is parallel hybrids, but not in series hybrids which are what I always think about with stop and go traffic. I suppose in a parallel hybrid it isn't despicable, but that isn't what we are talking about. I'll stand by my statement, but with a slight modification: I despise start/stop in any purely internal combustion vehicle...
Because the 5 series now is sharing the platform with 7 series and it is not as sporty as it used to be... New 3 series is the size of older 5 series and combined with 300hp, it is a WINNER. If you want comfort go for 5, if you want sport with touch of luxury go for 3 I used to be a 5series guy, now I'm in love with new 3
LED lights flicker on and off so fast that the human eye cannot detect them going off and on. However, when filmed and played back, the camera catches them flickering because its frame rate at which it is recording is faster than the refresh rate of the lights.
i have this car its is amazing when its in sport it acts like the bmw m3 and when its in comfort it is the smoothest ride ever in my oppinion i think its better then my dads infiniti g37 sedan
This is caused by the camera. Depending on what frame rate the camera is set to. It will cause the light to flicker. The faster the frame rate, the more flicker you get in the lights, the slower the frame rate, the less likely the lights will flicker. This is why the movies we watch are shot at 24 frames per second. It's slow yet fast enough to capture smooth motion and lights. LED light technology in cars today runs so fast that their camera dont have the ability to capture it.
Feel like you skipped over the heads up display way to fast. It's such an awesome feature. Speed limit info, navigation, music(full color in music btw...) and more
Why is he comparing auto start stop on gas engine vs hybrid? That camry has electric engine that does the initial driving, then gas engine kicks in, which is why its less noticeable - the car is already moving when the engine starts. Versus, on this 328 there is no electric engine to start moving the car, hence its more violent. Im not claiming that the function is well executed in 328, but if you are going to compare, at least make it apples to apples.
start/stop technology: Do I have to hit the 'off" button every time i start the vehicle? or once the start/stop is off, it will always be off until I turn it back on? thank you
Anyone and everyone who gives a crap about cars is aware of the input lag associated with manumatic transmissions that stems from the manner by which the driver's inputs are filtered through the transmission programming's logic. That's been the way it is since they started adding "manual" shifting to automatics in the late 1990's. The new BMW programmed and ZF manufactured 8 speeds are some of the first to actually get it right.
im looking at 328i online from a dealer and the screen looks different , this looks like a tablet popping up while the one im seeing at the dealer site looks like a screen integrated into the dash
well it is labled from 2012, so unless BMW has multiple gens on the same year otherwise i would expect all vehicles of the same year to be the same gen as far as i know 2012 is E92, but this on the video does not look like that yet it is also a 2012
I too am looking at a used 2012 328i at a dealer and it is integrated into the dash as you described. The one I'm looking at is a hard-top convertible.
unfortunately thats where most luxury european cars are heading. I was just test drove a Audi a4, and I could not find where the handbreak until the dealer told me it's a little button. I could not check oil level through a dipstick because it is monitored on the on board computer. It's all technology..in some ways its good but also bad because you lose control of physically seeing issues in the car and have to always trust in what the computer is telling you.
hey you forget to mention that the start and stop would only work if you are on a straight pavement. any incline on the road would not activate it..lol
Enjoy paying for your own service contract and out-of-warranty work. E90's are still plenty CPO-able and will become the standard in premium used cars very soon.
I don't understand how I've heard that touchscreens are more dangerous than controllers. Why don't all cars have huds that use voice activation?? Why have huge screens?

I lurv this guy, hes is so enthusiast and his review is ON point..well done 'guy'!!
Love mine... nothing to complain about this car... well, actually backup camera should be freaking standard. Oh and the HUD does have colors.
i have really nice 328i station wagon i pay my bills but i knew they were coming
BMW is out of this world with its beauty and amazing performance,,i wish i could cown one..
@Harukoozt because the headlights are I believe 30Hz and the camera is 60Hz so u see the alternation. its something around that. or the camera at 30Hz and the lights at 50hz.

Just make sure the timing chain issue is addressed or better yet go for a newer model year 330i, those are very reliable.
I love mine so amazing it has never let me down!

such great reviews...most car only reviews are not even this detailed in terms of the driving experience
im new to this channel and i mis say, i am impress with every review b/c of how detail they are. keep up the good work
the bmw start stop uses a heavy duty bosch starter... its different than the others. hence the difference in feel

In today's interest rate environment if you have the CASH, it's a decent move. If you have to finance or lease it and are pretty much broke, your money needs to go other places first. Emergency fund, retirement contribution, etc.
That's due to the shutter speed of the camera. Yes the lights are flashing but in real life they flash so quickly we don't actually notice it.
If you think the blinking, that's caused by the camera framerate. All led lights flash the whole time. It because of the principal how they work (wikipedia). They just blink so fast human eye can't see it. If you have some led light at home, try pointing some camera on them and you will see them blinking.
I'd go with the C-Class cause to turn on the A/C you just press a simple button, and the looks etc.
Maybe I skipped prior post. However you are wrong with the pricing both invoice and msrp are more for bmw 328i from 3.8l genessis.
That engine look ridiculously small for this car, but it delivers results.
@derrickb1974 you can tell it was a go pro by the way it rolled and the sound
Saw the 2012 3 series this week and man is it big O_O Looks like a 5 series at first glance..
You are right when the subject is parallel hybrids, but not in series hybrids which are what I always think about with stop and go traffic. its an ipod accessory. you can buy it from the apple store
he has a point since MB and Porsche start-stop are a lot smoother and undetectable

BMW makes the best cars out there. Re-designed and engineered, don't be fooled that it's the old BMW of the past.
I love Cooley's reviews!!!!!!!
Headlights appears to be blinking in the video. Was it suppose to be so or was it just the video?
LOL love the end
Thanks a lot, love your car reviews!
Why turn off start/stop... why??
In case you didn't know, previous gen 3-series had start stop too. My 2008 has it as standard.
What model?
@@tonyincidis 318i
Did you drop the camera at the end? lol
@Harukoozt
cameras cant kkep up with l.e.d. lights frames per second
Sometimes people like things. Bias isn't unheard of in reviews of anything.
Is the new camry hybrid actually quicker than a 328i or is cnet high?
Glad to see car prices again!
Finally, A 40,000 Machine that can go on fb -_-
It's nice by today's standards, but I miss the '90s BMW designs.
Also it has a much bigger "start motor" :P
@Harukoozt They're LEDs.
Best ending scene ever!
Is it still worth paying the extra for the 335i?

Have you test driven the N20 turbo 4 engine in 328i? I bet you haven't.
it's good looking
something that cant be said for a lot of BMWs
What's up with the lights flashing constantly?
why are the head lamp keeps flashing
Did you just break your camera?
@4Cupertino2Eindhoven What about forward collision warning???
Love your reviews man!
Does this have adaptive cruise control???
3 series has to be inline 6 cylinder, right ?
This one in particular has a four cylinder engine.
Weird...I test-drove one in June, and I actually think it looks/feels smaller than the previous generation 3-series sedan (E90). Oh, well...
Basically same exterior styling since the 2006 model. It's not easy to tell the difference when spotting one on the road..
Ahahah i like it when the camera dropps at the end
@TechGolfer86 ZR1?
Very good review...Love BMW!
what happened to the cam lol @ the end of the vid ?
I wish Apple would make a car, because something new and special needs to happen to make car interiors look really engaging again.

Everyone tells me the Audi looks the best, and my BMW dealership gives me a 5 year warrenty and 4 years free service thats what i like about the bmw
can anyone answer me on how bad the glare is from actually driving in the sun?
Polaris: you could just not use them, ah? All important info come also on the screen near the speedometer. I personally look at the big screen :)
That headrest looks kinda crazy.
...okay C|Net, did your video editor take an early lunch?? 6:35

even tho the audi a6 and bmw 328i are in two different categories, ill take this 328i over the a6 in a heart beat.
