I'm digging this series, I'm fairly new to doing basic maintenance (also my 1st Subaru), the serpentine belt looks doable, thanks!! That hidden 12v is pretty useful, dashcam/radar
Excited to see the progress of this build, always love seeing people properly take care of their cars and maintaining them to last for many more years of use
Part numbers for the pcv valve 11810AA131 and the hose 99081AA321 for anyone that wanted to copy and paste. My FRS also came with no shift interlock cover and the one I ordered was flat black too. Thanks for making these videos. I look forward to the automatic transmission service one!
Yep I do the same thing with my PCV with liquid thread sealer I just tighten by hand. Most of the time every third oil change I pull it out and clean it with carb cleaner.
I had an 07 Saturn Ion for a few years then hit two deer too many and didn't wanna keep putting money into it anymore so I found an 07 Scion tC that I really liked .. had that for less than a year when on December 24th I woke up to find that a tree had fallen on it and my insurance ended up considering it a total loss .. after searching for a little while I found a 2013 brz premium down in Philly that I really liked and that's what I ended up buying and driving home .. I'm loving this series and really appreciate seeing these videos ! Thanks !!
I don't know why I like this video series so much but I do! Well maybe it was because 2013 was the first time I bought a new car, a BRZ premium, and seeing them now with so many miles and aged is a bit of a thing I haven't witnessed before.
Pulled a fog light set for my daughter's 2011 forester out of the junk yard. Lights, stalk and relay. Pig tails were there all taped up under the bumper.
Thanks for these series of repair vids on the BRZ. I just picked up a 17’ 86 and I do all my own services. These vids are always my GoTo to get the work done. I’m OCD too and would have replaced the small cover as well. Thanks!
Great videos, showing the procedure very well and easy. Can't wait for all the other mechanical works including engine work, suspension work and transmission works. This really help me out alot since I own the same car and I don't trust the other mechanic to work on my car. Atleast I know what going on even if I can't do some works by myself.
Nice work Mr Subaru, I'm looking fwd to seeing the engine sparkle after a full de-grease and also seeing those pink numbers rubbed off the intake manifold.
Take that extra glovebox power plug and put it in the hole that is on the floorboard under the glovebox. It blocks the engine noise from that hose that comes from the intake. Quieter cabin, and you can actually hear the radio.
The ‘hidden’ power outlet cover can be use to plug the hole from the inside behind the pedals when you do decide to remove the sound tube from the engine bay
Thank you for posting this. I have a Forester. Replacing the serpentine belt does look doable to me (if I can convince my wife to let me buy the tools.) The PCV valve and hose look harder. I will probably rely on my mechanic for both these items. I really am influenced by you -- I will try and do more maintenance myself. I'm going to check for a hidden 12v power outlet behind the glove box as well. I do most all the driving for both myself and my wife, and she has a whole array of electrical gadgets that need power, so....
Also now that I think about it, the car is also pre-wired for the round switch in the subaru kit. My kit from toyota did not come with the round subaru button nor the stalk, it came with a real fog button and a new trim piece to replace the trim around the trunk release button. There is a small connector near there for a fog light switch. Fog lights aside, you'll maybe be happy to know the car is also pre-wired for a canbus doodads, as there is a spare "option" connector loose behind the radio that has B+, ACC, ground and canbus.
I just started looking for a new daily, came across a 2013 GT86 with 50k miles on it with a 6mt, after watching these videos im sorely tempted to pick it up
FRS? not GT86 in that year. but yeah. absolutely get it. best car of all time. i got mine at a salvage auction, did some fixing, and i've been driving it as my daily for 4 years now. best car i've ever owned. i've pulled the engine out twice. the second time was mostly because it was fun the first time. they're made to be worked on, and they're an almost perfect example of that amazing japanese practicality and elegance. they just work, and they're fun as hell.
Ever go to a Toyota dealer to get parts for your BRZ? I found that the Toyota dealer near me is usually 10% to 20% cheaper than the Subaru dealer when I order parts online and pick it up.
@@MrSubaru1387any reason not to go with Toyota? Subaru oem makes sense as it’s a Subaru engine. I’m doing my PCV Valve and hose on my FR-S. Subaru or Toyota parts?
Hey MrSubaru, could you do a video on the best DIY mechanic subaru setup. Everytool that a DIYer would want to have, or use for any subaru related job, including pulling engines and engine building. Saw something similar with a different channel, and figured the subaru community could benifit from know where to start when it comes to having a complete tool setup for subaru repair and maitanance
don't quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure the outlet behind the glove box is so you can route your plug from your radar (or other devices obviously) from your windshield to there.
I had an oil leak on my BRZ, was all inside the bell housing and down the oil pan. Nothing crazy but ended up tearing everything out and replacing the rear main, only then seeing your video about the PCV valve... mine was a little gummed up but I don't know if it was enough to cause leaks.
I wish I saw this video before I bought my mishimoto oil catch can 😂the video they displayed on the FRS was completely different from the Subaru limited edition, I had a pretty tough time accessing that area where the PCV is and after an hr my dumbass was like oh you can remove this bracket lol
Hello, I suspect the belt to be faulty on my 86, can I start the engine with the belt off (of course just a few seconds, I know the alternator wont work this way) to be sure if the is the source of noise ?
Hey question if you don't mind I've found a 02 wrx for 2300 kid says it starts and after it's warmed up it smokes white. This would be a head gasket right leaking after it built pressure from heat?
Know of any good rebuild kits for 02 Forester AC compressors? The large bearing in the compressor is going out and the clutch needs replaced. Ordered one and it turned out to be to small for the splines to run the clutch. Hate to replace the compressor entirely, still blows cold, just noisy.
I have a question for Mr subaru I have a 2013 subaru impreza wrx and I wanted to know if there is a way I can get my fog lights to be independent but I want to keep it oem with the blinker switch and not cutting any wires
I can't believe it's that easy to replace the serpentine belt on these cars, let a dealership do it and they charged me 400$ 😑 I'll keep that in mind from now on
I haven’t replaced mine yet (Toyota 86), but the factory repair manual instructions are to apply ThreeBond 1141G or 1215 to the threads … so either that or teflon tape to have good sealing.
Hi. Thank you for the content. I`m looking for a more general answer. Why did Subaru make a sports car? That isn`t what they are famous for. Is it because of pressure from Toyota? If I`m looking for a small sports car, why should I pick the BRZ when there are so many other options?
The BRZ gets good gas mileage. It’s reliable and parts aren’t too expensive. The factory tires are cheap compared to other sports cars. The tire sizes on other sports cars use super wide tires. Also, the most important thing is they are fun to drive. It feels like it’s on rails. It’s not gonna win a drag race but will be a good car to have on track day or any curvy road.

Hey just changed the pcv valve in my FRS. Noticed the valve woulnt thread all the way there was a few threads showing. Is that normal?
why did you replace pcv valve and its hose ?
I was wondering the same thing!
I explained it in the video…
It’s a normal wear item that has a regular service interval. Failure to replace it regularly will cause oil consumption or oil leak issues.
@@MrSubaru1387 how many miles to replace it regulary ?
