    June is Pride Month and if not for coronavirus streets around the world would be filled with the LGBTQIA Community living loud and proud. But how did the New York City Stonewall Riots turn into a month-long celebration? And specifically, how did we get from picketed protests like the Annual Reminder in Philadelphia to massive parades and parties around the world?

    Origin of Everything is a show about the under-told histories and cultural dialogues that make up our collective story. From the food we eat, to the trivia and fun facts we can’t seem to get out of our heads, to the social issues we can’t stop debating, everything around us has a history. Origin of Everything is here to explore it all. We like to think that no topic is too small or too challenging to get started.

    I remember some of this. Have been an ally since forever. Inspired to be a professor by my late gay uncle. He got his PhD in English when I was about 5. Found out you could be a Dr. Without going to medical school. Blew my little mind. Mom said he "got to" study something he loved for years and write a book about it. And teach GROWNUPS. 😃 Wasn't allowed to be around him much. He tried to get a university professor gig, but Black was bad enough-gay did not help. He taught Jr.Hi Gifted and talented when I was in the program. Almost beat a boy for harassing me about him. I had to *SNEAK* into his classroom after school one day to tell him I didn't care who he wanted to kiss, I thought he was the coolest person on the planet. And that I wanted to teach grownups too- I'd finish what he started. I'm a poor adjunct w/ a MA in Sociology now. Still trying to get that last paper and a full time position. I tell his story each semester. Of course, there's *always* ONE that I have to ...politely" educate" as it were. He was always in danger of being fired. But having a Black male PhD teaching was a trinket the school system could show off. Always had to watch his back. He would have loved all this. 😅

      I'm lucky because even in 1987 my teacher thought it important to cover in our AP History class. It's also the reason I even learned about the interment camps during WW2.
      Neither of which were covered in my kid's curriculum... So I made it a point to take him to Stonewall when we went to NY and Manzanar, Minidoka and Tule Lake. So glad ALL of these had some NPS/ Jr. Ranger connection as well because I'm that mom that makes him learn things over the summer!!

    I was a member of the Society for Individual Rights (SIR) and participated in activities at the SIR Center in San Francisco. At that time we were called a homophile organization. We also had the only dancing in San Francisco where men could dance while touching. We could do that since we had no alcohol. This was before the Stonewall event.
    Later, when I moved to the San Jose area for work, I participated in a gay student group at San Jose State. A year before San Francisco's parade, we had a march in downtown San Jose.

    ....so in the EU (I think) May is the month against LGBTIQ+ discrimination (and govt and other institutions' buildings raises the rainbow flag for support). June is the pride month for the US (...and UK too?) and that's when the pride parades are happening (in North America and UK). July (it seems to me, again 🙈) is when most EU countries start doing the parades. It feels like May to July is a long celebration of pride to me....

    • @Sketchblopp
      @Sketchblopp 4 роки тому +2

      "The EU" is a very big group of several states with different laws and traditions, which vary a lot, lately from several countries having pride parades in different months (mostly in the summer, at least pre-Covid19) up to some states actively declaring LGBTQ+ as illegal and therefore don't celebrate anything anymore. So maybe it would be good to not summarize all countries as one. ;) A whole month is as far as I know rather unusual though, at least I didn't know it was a thing up to a few years ago, when I learned about it from US friends. :)

    • @ericanewcomb2643
      @ericanewcomb2643 4 роки тому

      Since the title includes the Stonewall Riots I think it's pretty clear the vid was mostly centered on pride in the US. Also, the US declares a bunch of other months (ie Black History Month) for similar celebrations and a time to learn about the country's history with respect to that group.

      Everyday, 365 days a year is heterosexual day. Topping it off with Valentine's day. Sanction by the church. Heterosexuals everyday of the year, announce through bulletin boards and newspapers their anniversaries and weddings. They celebrate their love and vows publicly. Most countries have tax write-offs for head of households (heterosexuals).
      As homosexuals. Why should we take second-hand crums. Why should we be only entitled to celebrate on emancipation day (Gay Liberation Day). Later turned to: Gay Pride.
      They're countries in the southern hemisphere. That are in the dead of winter in June. They're desert cities in the northern hemisphere, that are too hot to host a pride parade.
      Just like heterosexuals that are allowed to practice their sexuality, everyday of the year. Why should we narrow our visual existence, for everyone to just June? Even though we know our history.

    The Pride Parade in Detroit is especially bad. There's more floats and people from corporate sponsors than actual LGBTQ+ groups. It makes me sick. (Don't even get me started on Detroit Police defending the N*zis who came to disrupt it)
    But I still march with my church, which has a group that marches in the parade. I think it's important that people see Christians who are LGBTQ+ and proud to be both.

    I think its important to mention how Rivera were shunned from the parades out of concerns for respectability see as she was trans and a sex worker. Its especially important today as certain LGB groups are weaponising the pride flag and shutting out trans, non binary and intersex folks. Which is why youll probably see on twitter lots of the newer updated pride flags with black, brown and the trans flag colours.

(see above comment) I educate them by(see above) and telling them if Gay people are only bad and contribute nothing to society except " sin," THROW AWAY YOU CAMERA PHONES! Don't use a laptop, " App" or anything with a computer chip. I tell the story of Alan Turing- a GAY HIGH FUNCTIONING AUTISTIC MAN who first thought of a machine talking to another machine. How he helped crack the enigma code. Shortened the war and saved thousands of lives. Created the FIRST computing machine/computer. Honored by his country. Jailed and ruined because he was Gay. Castrated. Commuted suicide by biting into a poison APPLE. The company will neither confirm nor deny that the APPLE with a bite is a tribute to the creator of their industry. The reactions are...*PRICELESS.* I also get at least one student who is in my class or heard about what I say sneak into my office to confide in me. I say nothing because I know they have to survive their environment. I do an encouraging secret talk almost each semester to arm them with knowledge, tell them this is natural, and to hit the books as hard as you can. That they may have to find "fictive kin" in people like me and form " family." As " Auntie Ally" I do what I can.😊🌈😄👵

    My dear brothers and sisters, I write to you with a simple question, Do you think you're a good person? Have you ever lied, stolen or taken the lord's name in vain(OMG)? Have you made a fluffy butler God to suit yourself? One that doesn't care if you break his commandments? If you were judged by these standards (the ten commandments), you'd be found guilty in God's eyes and be sentenced to eternal separation from him in Hell. There is one thing you need to save you.
    If you're in the court of law and your found guilty of several crimes with huge amounts of evidence there is but one thing that you can do, thats to throw yourself to the mercy of the judge. When you do that, all of a sudden the judge says "you're very lucky, someone just paid the fine for your sentence." That someone is Jesus Christ, the son of God, the Savior, emmanuel. He paid the fine for all your sin so you may be set free from your sin. All you must do is trust in him like you trust a parachute and repent of your sins, turn from them and exalt the king of kings for what he's done for you. If you do that you'll have everlasting life with him forever. My dear brothers and sisters, please don't turn him away. My heart goes to you and I've done my part. Jesus will handle the rest.

    And because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed [shared] throughout the whole world [via satellite, TV, radio, smartphones, youtube, facebook, twitter, websites, thumbdrive, bluetooth, wifi, tent revivals, street evangelism, VR headset, etc] as a testimony to all nations [ethnos; ethnic], and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:12‭-‬14‭ ESV)
    But know this, that in the last days perilous [extremely dangerous, risky, unsafe] times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves [self--centered], lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers [using God's name as an expression, surprise, disgust, cuss word] disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers [gossips], without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong [insists or determined to have one's own way; willful; stubborn], haughty [arrogant], lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness [pretense, appearing to borrow Judeo-christian moral values of justice and/or peace] but denying its power [the power of the Gospel/Bible to transform them into a godly character]. And from such people turn away! [Do not associate] (2 Timothy 3:1‭-‬5 NKJV)
    Noah's Generation: The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)
    As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. (Matthew 24:37)
    Then he instructed me, “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near. Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile [highly offensive, slander, repulsive or disgusting] continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous [obeying G.D's will and purposes] continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.” “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 22:10‭-‬13 NLT)
    Now when these things begin to occur, stand tall and lift up your heads [in joy], because [suffering ends as] your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28 AMP)
    All that My Father gives Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out [I will never, never reject anyone who follows Me]. (John 6:37 AMP)
    I have blotted out your transgressions [intentional disobedience] like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you. (Isaiah 44:22)
    And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
    “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:30‭-‬31 NLT)
    “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:16‭-‬17 AMP)
    [Be careful. Find a believer who's mature in faith so he/she can walk you through. The enemy wants also to misguide your search so be fully awarev of that. Do not readily trust a Christian who sounds logical and quotes scriptures. Be on guard. There are a plethora of false teachers and false prophets in our generation.]
    And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And many false prophets [false teachers, pastors, lukewarm christians, professors, etc] will arise and lead many astray. (Matthew 24:4‭-‬5‭, ‬11 ESV)
    Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38 ESV)
    Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3).
    Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his [God's] voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness. (Hebrews 3:7-8)
    For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:11‭-‬14 ESV)

    Origin of everything = 50% origin of liberal talking points. It's not about them, it's about all the other stuff I'd like to know about...

    • @thoughtheretic
      @thoughtheretic 3 роки тому

      @A A lol that's asinine and untrue. Believe it or not there is more to history than sociopolitical structures. Do you even watch this channel? They literally have videos on things that are completely a-political.
      This channel is (allegedly) origin of _everything_ - as in, an educational channel, not a political history one. It should called the origins of how straight white men are bad

    • @thoughtheretic
      @thoughtheretic 3 роки тому

      @A A the problem is that they inject sociopolitical talking points into so many videos where it is completely unnecessary. There's a reason it's seen significantly less growth than its sister channels. It's not any _one_ video, it's the sum total of the channel. It's name is not reflective of the content. I'm not a conservative, and even if I were I would be equally uninterested in a channel allegedly about the origin of _everything_ constantly talking about the origin of sociopolitical movements and history or contextualizing significant parts of its videos around religious dogma.
      And yes, I am telling you that you are wrong. Innovation happens outside politics. Social progress? Yes, of course it's going to primarily be, well, progressives. But it's a very narrow minded take in the context of "everything." Not to mention you can espouse conservative viewpoints and still want change. There is no unilateral ideology, and even if you reduce it down to that there is still an entire spectrum. In the current climate simply not advocating for radical chance makes you a conservative in the eye's of the mainstream progressives. Many of the founding fathers of the US were Christian fundamentalists, and yet look at the impact they had on the entire course of humanity.
      But let's take that example - the origin of the US. If you were doing a deep dive into the beginnings of the US it would be appropriate to include a brief overview of how African slaves contributed to the continued success of the country, however in a 10 or so minute video it's simply not important enough compared to the other things you should cover. Same with the Industrial revolution. Did African slavery _contribute_ to it? Yes, absolutely. Was it a foundation of it? No, absolutely not. The industrial revolution was well under way, and was inevitable, irrespective of cotton farming in the US. And while this is conjecture, the consistent pattern with the facts this channel chooses to include would indicate it would likely spend several minutes talking about it.
