    Cold Steel makes some of my favorite production Bowie knives, but I am excited to see them represent "the other" famous American frontier knife the long daggery Arkansas Toothpick. This new model is made in India by Windlass, known for their historical swords and weapons. The contoured wood handle and the weighted pommel and ball quillions makes this 13" double-edged knife feel light and lively in hand. I am also happy to see that the GSM purchase of Cold Steel has not put a halt to their production of "battle-ready" historical weapons.

      there is no any similar toothpick on the market with such origin decoration and at the same time so sharp(as usually💪😉)..And I am very proud it was only again and again Cold Steel who remembered this knife period from swamps there....👍👍👏👏👏

    Cold Steel has made such beautiful knives. It´s also nice to see that the balance isn´t to far forward, which they sometimes do that.

    Ok so you popped up om my feed and if this vid is anything to go by ,you have another subscriber .I loved this vid ,and I am a Cold Steel fan too ,Great to see this in so much detail as I don't get to "play before I pay" as a rule here in the UK no one would display them in a shop for a start. Lovely to see what I will be getting when mine is on it's way .Thank you .

      The pommel is traditional on some toothpicks and bowies. The gator/horse was considered a symbol of Mississippi boatmen. Tough, fast, and not to be messed with.

    You are right in that the unsharpened part is for parrying in a sword, and probably in the toothpick as well.
    Beautiful blade, but would have liked a simpler pommel and chape more, not so much southern general, more southern soldier like, if you catch my drift

      The ricasso here seems small for parrying. It makes more sense to me that it exists for resting your finger on it to allow a rapier style grip for dueling.

    Some gloves with a shock absorbing layer like Dr scholls gellin pads would be great to have for playing with knives on wood to absorb the potential for a large hand vibration . I thought about this as I thought about using something that big and what has happened to me in the past if it’s in the wrong spot there’s a vibration that really hurt your hand. I’m sure most of you know what I’m talking about. They probably have gloves like that but man it would work I think

    • @Robertlynschultz
      @Robertlynschultz 6 місяців тому

      Just get a pair of mechanic’s wear, impact gloves… they already has vibration absorption material in the palms

    Ya man I have had frontier bowie for years now and it's huge and that toothpick is bigger wow

  • @illmade2
    @illmade2 6 місяців тому

    First, most large knives and swords that come out of India are shipped dull due to Indian laws, and they are then usually sharpened by the company they are made for. Most companies do not hand sharpen. When mechanically sharpening and having a guard, they are only sharpened part way down the blade. Usually, the ricasso is enough space if the knife has one, but it seems in this case coldsteel went a little overboard. It doesn't hurt anything since most cutting with this type of knife would be done with the first half of the blade, and it does protect the guard from being damaged during the sharpening peoess.

    Windlass makes some of their blades, like the 1860 cavalry saber and shamshir, but this blade, the 1917 bowie, and some others are made by Universal Swords.

    To some extent, "Bowie knife" meant any large knife suitable for fighting and maybe work "Arkansas toothick" could also mean any large mean looking "bowie" type knife. Apparently it cold also mean a big dagger for throwing.

    the arkansas toothpick has a much longer history than being just an american knife, its a heavy dagger first from medieval times possibly before, its just a large dirk knife that someone thought they were creating but only plagiarized from the past

      Windlass makes some very tough knives. I’ve had a Buffalo Horn Bowie from them for almost 20 years. Used it exclusively for over 10 years. It shows some wear, but it’s still as good as the day I bought it. Got a few more over the years and never been disappointed.
