I have watched David easily dozens of times, and this is absolutely my favourite film ever. And that's saying something because I love movies and will be 70 next week. As I retired counsellor, I have never seen a movie that so succinctly expresses the complexity of working as a counsellor. And it's funny. Good, intelligent comedy expresses truth more capably and completely than drama ever can.
I put my phone in my pocket right at the end ,without closing, and the song started , ..I seriously thought I clicked another video when the song started 😅😅😅 I listen to banda music and was like, how the hell did it jump to that? 😂
As a dad, this was one of the most powerful things I've seen in a long time. Didn't expect to cry watching a Will Ferrell film. The relationship between a father and son is such a complex thing. It's easy to start to believe the lies you tell yourself about all things you're doing for your kids, when what they really want and need is your presence. Thanks for this reminder.
I co-wrote this with Zach in 2019 and we shot it in 2020 right before the pandemic. It was the first thing I ever wrote to be produced and so satisfying to have these actors perform it. Thank you all for watching and for your kind words! This is the next short we wrote together: ua-cam.com/video/Qli0yvdHVJs/v-deo.html
impressive to have this amount of character, story and emotion conveyed in the span of 12 minutes(and the pacing isn't even off) good job to everyone involved.
"I saw a video of it on Ebaum's world" whispered in earnest, frantic sincerity was phenomenal. This is a really great piece and I hope everyone who worked on it loves it as much as I do!
The whole time i was watching this i was thinking if they don't all go to the meet together at the end ill flip out lol. That person playing son David was so talented!
So great to see Conan giving younger comedians/friends a platform for their content, I knew Zach Woods was a great actor and it's great to see him branch out with his projects, thanks team coco!
Conan is a rare comedian who doesn’t care for just perfecting his craft, but perfecting the craft itself. He idolized those who came before him, so is excited to hand the reigns to those who will come after.

Will Ferrell has great dramatic acting chops. “Stranger than Fiction” with Will, Dustin Hoffman, Queen LaTifah, Maggie Gyllanhall and Emma Thomson is great! One of my faves!!
I immediately clicked as I saw this, Will Ferrell- Coco this had to be something really good. I was so confused in the beginning as to how to go in with my emotions the tone was drama and seeing Ferrell and Team Coco I expected it to be funny too. I think they were cautious of it too. It was serious, hilarious and real at the same time. The end of David helping David out of misery is what gets me. Sometimes when things get overwhelmed for us lending out a helping hand and bringing joy even if it is little to someone else’s life can he’ll fight our own demons.
I was immediately sucked into this short film. It was the right amount of seriousness and comedy to result in a beautiful ending. Amazing job to everyone involved.
@@phil8264 Yeah. Some of the moments made me laugh, especially when Will's character and his son were wrestling in the office. But at the same time, the entire feel of the piece was very serious. That wrestling match reminded me of my karate tournament days when I was in high school back in the 80's. My two closest friends would sit in the stands in support of me. They'd call out for me to "use the drum" like Mr. Miyagi. I'd be ready, focused, and excited to live out my karate dreams. Then I'd get beat in seconds.
First time seeing a performance by Fred Hechinger and I gotta say- the kid really lights up the screen. Terrific short film that hits the highs and low, both making me belly laugh and emotionally move me.
I first became aware of him in "Woman in the Window" and he was a standout, the "News of The World" and as katana2k mentioned "White Lotus" and his performances are, well, always kind of explosive like the guy with a hand grenade up his, nevermind.
He reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix, a lot. I first saw him in Fear Street 1994 and he really stuck out in that film. Looking forward to seeing him in Lotus when I get to it.
Team Coco, thank you so much for sharing this. Thank you for being one of the main distractions I had when I first fell into my own mental struggles. Thank you, Conan, for always being so open about your own struggles & talking to guests who are open about theirs. You made me feel less alone in my loneliest moments & gave me hope & laughter that literally nothing else could at that time. From the bottom of my heart, thank you y'all.
A life lesson in 11 minutes. It’s a struggle those who have demanding careers are in every day. It is true, sometimes we have to sacrifice family time to save others. Some family members understand, some will never. Outstanding work…
aw, this was beautifully done in such a short amount of time. kind of hit a nerve too, I couldn’t help but mourn my own relationship with my dad lol. all three of them did a great job but Fred Hechinger was brilliant.
Saw this at the opening night of Sydney's Flickerfest. Was absolutely blown away by the script & pacing of the film. Lucky to have found a copy online to share around.
I think the son David, was symbolic of the hurt child in the grown man David, played by William Jackson Harper. It was him the whole time, wrestling with his dad as a kid, wanting that acceptance and love. When he heard the Dr. say that poisons the relationship and he asked if that was true, he was able to comfort himself as a young child and get healing for his young and present self. The two of them watching the match felt like he finally made peace with his dad. I'm probably wrong but that's what I got from it. Such a well done story, thank you.
Your kidding right? Great actor in movies like Elf? 'great actor' seems a bit of a streak. Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Jim Carry, those are great actor's.
Ferrell is around the age when Robin Williams transformed into dramatic actor. I hope Will does the same. After watching this short I feel like he's at another level already. Brilliant.
