- Private recording of a special Harvest Festival Evensong at St John the Evangelist Ranmoor (Sheffield) on 24 September 1995, with the church choir, directed by Norman Barnes.
Hymn: Praise, O praise our God and king (“Monkland”)
Psalm 65
Canticles: Evening Service in B minor (T Tertius Noble)
Anthem: Thou visitest the earth (Maurice Greene)
Hymn: Come ye thankful people come (“St George’s Windsor”)
Hymn: Now thank we all our God (“Nun danket alle Gott”)
Organ voluntary: Marche triomphale “Nun danket alle Gott” (Siegfried Karg-Elert)
This is such high quality. I wonder if they swung any incense for this Festal Evensong!
IF THIS IS A PARISH CHURCH, THEY SEEMED TO HAVE A VERY GOOD CHOIR.
It is a parish church with an outstanding choir. Those were the days when many parish church choirs were of cathedral standards.
Years ago, when many people were Christians, churches could attract talented people to their music programs. I remember some remarkable music at relatively small churches, but that was decades ago.
TOTALLY AGREE!!
