I had this album! As always, under Guest, the choir is magnificent.
Thank you very much for uploading this. I was fortunate to be an undergraduate at St John's from 1972 to 1975, and hearing the choir on so many occasions was an experience that has stayed with me. These performances are magnificent, and the two Bruckner motets are sublime.
You really were in the right place at the right time - the quality of the singing then, really was second to none! George Guest was a national treasure!!
@@Cantorisalto1Yes, I was very lucky indeed. As well as the magnificent choir, I was also able to hear two very gifted organ scholars playing, Johnathan Rennert and the late John Scott.
Very sad about the loss of John Scott. He came to Hereford to adjudicate for a new cathedral organist where I sang as a Lay Clerk. Talking of Hereford, I always remember the day George Guest came to hear us sing Evensong. I'll always remember his wonderful smile. That day I sang for both God and Dr George Guest - such a privilege!!
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ST JOHN’S CAMBRIDGE? 😢
It's gone to the dogs like so many other formerly superb choirs we were proud to call our own in this country.
Just listen to the quality of the boy's voices here - gone, all gone!!!
George Guest would be turning in his grave God bless his soul!
