    I just bought a "used" 2022 Escape SEL PHEV and it is great in every way. I don't qualify for the US federal tax credit but the price reduction more than compensated for that. I bought it as the next step from my Toyota Prius V hybrid wagon in eco-friendliness. The Escape has so many improvements, bells, and whistles. I was going dizzy reading the Owners Manual, but determined to learn as much as I could (and try out all the options. Watching this video made it very easy. Everything I needed to know is spelled out and I can use the manual for reference. Thanks for the exhaustive review. And thanks for the pause/backup function to go over the stuff I missed.

      @@CarsWithSteve Hi Steve, Honestly there is too much age between the 2013 Prius and 2022 Escape to be fair. The newer technology in the service of safety, comfort, and convenience is far more advanced than anything a decade ago. I will miss the larger cargo capacity of the Prius wagon, but the Escape compares well with Toyota's RAV4. Plus the Escape has better legroom and headroom than the RAV4, too, which is important for a 6'3" guy. The older Prius navigation system was not upgradable (were any in that age?) and mobile phone apps quickly outpaced it. Ford's SYNC system seems better but being able to employ iPhone features through CarPlay is even better. Here in California it's difficult to find any RAV4 or Escape withOUT a sunroof, which I didn't want. The car I bought was a special order from one of the dealer's employees and has all the options I wanted and none I avoided. There is a school of "learn by driving" to figure what bells & whistles to activate or not. I prefer making up-front decisions and your video helped me do that, though I'm still learning. Thanks.

      Very true.. it would be night and day tech because of the difference in model year. Thanks for pointing out that you're able to fit inside no issues being over 6'! Great idea on putting in a factory order instead of settling for what's on the dealer lot, if you're not in a rush I always recommend that to make sure that you get exactly what you're after. Enjoy the ride :)

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Stefan! They're 2 different animals.. Ioniq is fully electric while the Escape is hybrid. I'm in an Ioniq next week but if it's anything like that Kona Electric it'll be a great ride.
      You have to ask yourself if you're ready for fully electric or if hybrid is the way to go for now. With gas prices the way they are some people are leaning on electric but the PHEV Escape will run off mostly battery power if you're doing short trips and aren't heavy on acceleration. Plus you have the benefit of gas backup just in case

    I ordered and then took possession of the 2021 Titanium Escape PHEV the end of September. After the first charge I got a message that the car was in Deep Sleep Mode. I took it took the dealer and they did not know why it did it but replaced the battery. No help. With every charge it went into Deep Sleep Mode. I've now owned the for 11 weeks and the dealer has had it 5 of those weeks. Ford has involved their field engineers and they have isolated it to a parasitic draw in the brake system. They traced it to a battery junction box and replaced that this week. They thought the problem was solved but a few hours later it was again getting an intermittent electrical draw and the engineers are continuing the search. I'm now seeing other people talking about having this message. I wonder if we will find at some point that there will be a recall on these cars?

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  2 роки тому +2

      Appreciate the owner feedback Diane. Deep Sleep Mode normally should only happen if the vehicle sits idle for too long, battery voltage drops below 9.5V or if your vehicle is subject to extreme temps
      I've looked through some forums and there are a few people having deep sleep issues with different brands as well. Once the issue with yours gets figured out I'd be curious what the fix was

      Update: Dec 2 Unbelievably my Ford Dealer changed ownership and I had to return the loaner car. The Ford Field Service Engineers were there for the entire week. On Dec 8 the service manager called and said that they wanted to drain the battery totally so he wanted permission for an employee to drive the car home for the night. The next day and 87 miles later the car was returned with an empty battery. Tests are continuing. At 2:45 I'm called and told they have a loaner for me. 3:15 we arrive to pick up loaner and the manager tells me I can take MY car home. I'm confused. He tells me there is nothing wrong with the car. It's a problem with the FORD PASS app. They are working to remove the DEEP SLEEP MODE message. I say to him that I don't understand. He knows there is a parasitic draw and that these engineers confirmed it. He shrugs his shoulders and hands me the keys.
      Now what?

    I currently own a 2018 Escape titanium with the 2.0 liter eco boost engine. It has some real get up and go! I’m thinking of trading this car in for a 2022 PHEV Escape titanium. Would you say it has that get up and go when you step on it? The 2022 PHEV has about 20 less horsepower than the 2018. I don’t think it would be that different, but I haven’t had a chance to test drive one yet.

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  2 роки тому +1

      Great question Bill! If you're in the 2.0L you will notice a gap in power as torque is the big difference between them. The 2.5L Atkinson hybrid is more on par with the power of the 1.5L EcoBoost engine
      Take one for a spin! If a local dealer doesn't have the plugin on the lot the regular hybrid drives very close to the PHEV

      Check your chips between your 2018 doors. Between front and rear doors right at the detailed raised point half way up the door. When you crack open tgecreatcdoircand close the front door at the same time the doors hit chipping your paint. I told Ford in October 2013 and they never fixed the problem. And you want to buy another Ford??

  • @tmic4790
    @tmic4790 2 роки тому

    Ford built the 2013 Escapes - 2019 with the doors hitting. I told them in October 2012 of this problem and they never addressed the problem by making a simple change in the robot installing doors. A simple reprogramming to increase the separation between the front and rear doors by a few millimetres. I moved both of my rear doors rearward by a few millimetres myself so the doors would not hit. My 4 doors were both painted twice each. 4 different paint jobs because the door’s continued to hit. They never fixed the problem… I did???

      @@CarsWithSteve Hi Steve These wheel weeks without skirting has bothered me for years. Do you know manufacturers skirted from well before but not back. This has bothered me for years. Do you know it was rear wheel wells that were rusting and not fronts because skirting and protective edging was keeping moisture/ salt from getting behind the metal. Once you get dirt behind it is hard to clean therefore an area to rust much faster. I had messaged manufacturers to skirt the rears like the front and now some do.
