It's so refreshing hearing those honest lyrics inside a church. Glen deserves more credit than he gets, and Lisa is just great. Absolute treasures. Mighty send-off by everyone. Shane would be raising a glass to this tribute.
Lovely to see the great John Sheehan on tin whistle! What a performance and let’s be honest, nobody does a send off like the Irish!! Rest easy Shane, thanks for the music and the memories!! 🇮🇪🥃💚
I'm crying tears of happiness to see how much love there is in that room. You lost two great ones this year, my condolances from Finland. We all were very blessed to have both Shane and Sinead. You could say we had sort of a counterpart of finnish rock go away 15 years ago and he had a irish song about some irish musiciands he sang, drank and played for a night or two in which he stated (poeted) that they sang about that the small nations strenght lies in it's arts and hearts. This is very evident looking at this wonderful service tonight. Peace and love from Helsinki. Shane was much loved here too.
I was just watching Jimmy Fallon clips. I stumbled upon Jimmy and Saoirse singing Fairytale of New York and here I am watching videos of Shane's funeral and bawling my eyes out.
He had a King's funeral and we all know he more than earned it, in lack of a better verb. Ireland and her Church setting an example of dedication to a people's Prince of Irish Popular Culture. It's been 39 years since I first listened to the Pogues. Hail and fare safe Shane MacGowan. Celtic Soul Cousins in Pt.
An American here. Lived in Ireland for a couple years back in the early 2000s. This is the most beautiful encapsulation of the Irish people. What a wonderful country. What wonderful people. RIP Shane McGowan.
Yes. Not exactly the in your face name brand recognition of Taylor what'shername, in the WarriorPrincess pole-dancing outfit, 21 tour-bus entourage, from planet warming show to planet warming show, but whatever. Oh, the mighty buck. I prefer Lisa O'Neil at a house concert !
Now that is an awesome send off. Love that people started dancing. Shane would’ve loved it. RIP, Shane, and Kristy. This song has always made me cry, now it does so even more. 💚🙏🏻🍀
I am 100% sure that Shane sit on his cloud and watching this and was happy, best salute for someone if people dance to your music on your funeral! R.I.P. legend!
In a era full of cloned pop stars, it real is great to see true music and raw talent be heard through a microphone. RIP Shane, your music was always playing in my house growing up.
He would have been, and no doubt is very proud of this rendition of one of the greatest xmas songs of all time that he himself and Kisty left us all with.. RIP legend and thank you!
What a fantastic job these people did with an amazing song and in church as well. Well done made an upsetting experience a joyful one. Lets get the original to the uk number 1 for Christmas. Thinking of his family at this time😢
Very emotional, exciting to see how they sing and dance, I cry while I see it, I have grown up in Spain listening to their songs, their Irish folk! Regards from Spain. Antonio
Hats off to the Father who did the service. Pure class and respect to a great fellow Irishman. Well done Father. Your speach and sermon were amazing. Thank You.
I get goosebumps and cry every time I watch this video, which I've already seen 5 or 6 times. It's very exciting and one of the best versions of 'Fairytale of New York' I've ever seen.
Glen Hansard amazing vocals, so gritty, same with Lisa, caught the feeling of the late Kirsty perfectly and The Pogues playing it right infront of Shane one final time. Absolutely incredible. So moved, this Christmas song he wrote about drunken lovers falling in and out of love will stand the test of time in 100 years while all other Christmas pop songs we consider classics today will fall by the wayside. You've got to love the Irish, they know how to commit to a proper send off! Sleep well Shane.
The poor lad at 2:53 was obviously struggling and it was great that Glen stepped in to add some vocal and ‘rescue’ things a bit. The lad gave him a squeeze on his shoulder in thanks after the great performance was over.
I knew in 1985 in London, i found my tribe. I was 19, away from my irish family in st helens. A lovely whipps cross hospital irish nurse introduced me to em.
That is the most beautiful send off I have ever seen. Shane definitely heard that! We will be singing his songs forever.
Us Irish do send offs unlike any other nation.
We celibrate the deads life and morn them thouroghly
Shane cannot hear this. Cause he´s dead. Unfortunately. Greets from Hannover.
@@nickklager1638 Now I understand why Germans don't do beautiful funerals. You should learn from the Irish.
We do, just not in Hannover I guess.
❤
Shane’s wife jumping over the pews to dance and his sister also. What a sight.
It's so refreshing hearing those honest lyrics inside a church. Glen deserves more credit than he gets, and Lisa is just great. Absolute treasures. Mighty send-off by everyone. Shane would be raising a glass to this tribute.
Dead right pal
She changed a lyric but it was a fabulous sendoff.
❤
@@richardrybinski2320which was that? She did say the "controversial" part anyway
@@richardrybinski2320no she didn't
This is not a funeral or memorial, this is a celebration of life... Beautiful version of this classic... Rip Mr Shane MacGowan
Lovely to see the great John Sheehan on tin whistle! What a performance and let’s be honest, nobody does a send off like the Irish!! Rest easy Shane, thanks for the music and the memories!! 🇮🇪🥃💚
Just what I was about to say. Lovely to see John Sheehan
Yes, it was! It would be great to have a list of all the musicians who played that day.
Great version of a great song
Fantastic
Are they dubliners?
If dis is the funeral, i can’t imagine the wake.
Can't beat an Irish Funeral, am so proud of my Irish heritage, ❤.

Peace and love from Helsinki. Shane was much loved here too.
Beautiful tribute. We lost 3 of our great poet's, song writer's and singers this year. Christie, Sinead and now Shane. ❤
RIP Juice Leskinen & Shane MacGowan
Why am I crying? Being Asian, I have never heard of Shane or the Pogues. but here I am crying all the same.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Shane McGowan and the Pogues. A great depth of music to explore.
I was just watching Jimmy Fallon clips. I stumbled upon Jimmy and Saoirse singing Fairytale of New York and here I am watching videos of Shane's funeral and bawling my eyes out.
You're missing out. Listen to the Pogues albums.
THAT! is how you do a funeral!
Absolutely!
This is how I want to go. No tears, no fears, just laughter and dancing in the aisles with lots of music.
RIP Shane ❤️
so well said lovely rip Shane ❤❤❤
The music is sad. Fantastic, but sad.
There won't be many funerals like that 👏👏❤
That is because there are no other Shanes.
Every funeral in Ireland is like that mate.A celebrated life.
There won’t be another one.
There are not many men like him.
Beautiful version, ❤ , I was lucky enough to be in the church for this sad wonderful mass / concert, unforgettable ❤❤❤ Rip Shane ❤ ❤️❤️
You're the lucky one, Kitty, love the song and love you baby, happy Christmas
Absolutely emotional brilliant send off. Who else is with glen
These tears on my face have at least five different reasons to be there.
The fact that they broke loose dancing in a funeral shows what kind of sendoff this was. What a sight. Loved it! Songs and memories lives forever
It was a wake inside a church.
If this dosent happen at my funeral, don't turn up! Simply magnificent
Brilliant

Fellow American who also lived in Ireland. Totally agree. The Irish are the loveliest people. Beautiful country.
Beautiful version. Glen and Lisa do a fantastic job with this.
Wow that was the most amazing womans voice
Yeah, she’s incredible. Check out her stuff it’s great - she does a great cover of Lullaby of London
Discovered her on Guy Garvey's radio show on Radio 6 music.
Lisa O'Neil
One of Ireland's best contemporary musicians. She released an incredible album this year.
Nearly perfect rendition! I love that they kept the lyrics just as Shane wrote them. Just as they're supposed to be.
She said Braggard
She changed the lyrics. Very disappointing
I don't cry often, but the dancing got me. What a beautiful send-off.
me too, the dance broke me
This is best way to celebrate someone's life. RIP irishman
It's a celebration of pleasure which that man gave to many .Everytime I hear it it makes me smile as a tribute to Shane and kirsty

Same. And then I realized some of the dancers were Shane's wife and sister and I bawled even harder.
R.I.P Shane always remember in Irish hearts

3 months later, I'm still here crying for the final dance. One of the most beautiful and spontaneous moments I've ever seen...❤
