- In todays video we head out looking to do some jigging for halibut. We jig on a deeper shelf and end up finding some really nice fish. Jigging for these halibut was way too much fun on the spinning setups. Conventional setups would work great too. Using the "vibes" squidtrex and vertrex, have us never wanting to troll for halibut again. Its a really fun bite, and fun way to catch them. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video, very cool of you to share what you use. Those were some nice size butts.
Thanks man! There were good ones! It was really fun jigging fun jigging for them.
Another banger video bro. I was just there this Wednesday, drifting live bait. It was super ruff and fast drift but did manage a couple stripers. Thanks for the technique breakdown, that was really helpful.
What’s up brotha! It’s been so windy this past month. Cool to hear you got on some stripers. I heard there was a crazy striper bite out there recently. Oh also, we probably are going to have some striper videos again back at the honey hole casting lures again. We missed that last year. Hopefully we will see you out there!
OUTSTANDING JOB!
Thanks man! 👍
Good to see you guys out here again. I think I was in the bay the same day you guys were. Very windy out there! BTW, those Sqidtrex lures are priced very high but I might buy a couple to try out. Thanks
Thanks man 👍 It was so windy!!! I would check out nomads UA-cam page and look up the design features. They have a lot of unique qualities. One of which is the plastic material, it’s very durable. You can catch a lot of fish on it even thought it’s soft plastic. Most soft plastics will fall apart after time. It’s a really unique lure that can be used a lot of ways. They do come with a price, totally worth it though. It’s one of Dustin’s favorite lures.
I bought a couple to start the season. Work really well. Shhhhhhh. Hahaha. Great video.
@gerardomartindelcampo1627 Hahaha awesome to hear you have been putting them to work! Thanks man 👍
Thanks for the cool video. I have similar rail mounted rod holders like you do: how do you prevent them from spinning/slipping downwards when a fish hits?
Thanks man! It depends on the brand really. Some are better than others. It helps to put electrical tape on the rail, wrap it a few times and try to really wrench down on them. Use loctite on the bolts too.
Good job guys you killing
Thanks Oleg!
congratulations and cant wait for the tuna content. Does the flying fish work up here ?
Thanks! We can’t wait either haha. It should work up here. We have seen flying fish from time to time. Plus it’s a big meal, big presentation.
sick video... JP bait been booboo too I just got some tubes for back up
Thanks man! We haven’t done live bait all year. Artificial lure bites are sweet. Good luck out there 👍
Great video, thanks for sharing.
For halibut, do you fish around a particular tide? I have heard some people say they fish an incoming tide so the halibut can see in clearer water and I’ve also heard people say they fish an outgoing tide for the warmer water?
Do you guys have a preference or just fish on your days off work, whenever you get a chance?
Also, I really like to see what gear you are finishing with, thanks.
Thanks man! We typically fish when we can. We prefer slower moving tides for the halibut, big tides are usually tough. If we have a big tide, we focus on the first hour or last hour of the tide since it slows down. In this video we are using slow pitch jigging rods, regular jig rods would be ok too, as long as they arent super super heavy. This rod does have a nice tip and loads up well on the fish.
@@DDFishingCo thanks
California Dawn II!???
When we first started it was pretty quiet then a bunch of party boats showed up. I think they were all leaving a striper bite and then heading to a calmer area to fish to get out of the wind.
Can you cast and retrieve those Squidtrex lures or only jig them up and down
You can cast and retrieve them too. There’s a variety of ways they can be used. When you retrieve them it’s very similar to a lipless crank bait but with more action with the appendages. You can troll with them too with the bigger sizes for offshore fish.
What kinda rod specs you running for jigging those in the bay?
We were using slow pitch jog rods in this video. I would get some kind of jig rod that could handle the weight of the jig you are using. These rods have a nice tip where they load up really good without being too heavy on the fish. We were using 3.25oz jigs. The rods we ran were rated from 2-9oz. We could probably run a little lighter even, something 1-4 or 2-6 oz would be ok too.
What up fellas!
What up Troy!
Dope!
Thanks man🙌
How many oz are you using at .. nice halibut
We were using the 130s which are 3.25 ounces. Thanks Eddie!
What kind of bottom were you focusing on? Ledges, rock piles/lines?
Most of the time, we are fishing flats, and they vary in depth. It’s always good to find places where there are some ledges, or humps leading up to a flat. There was quite a bit of bait in the area we were fishing and that helps too. Sometimes the fish will sit right at the edge of a flat and a ledge. That’s a good ambush spot, there will be current, which will bring the bait fish and they halibut can wait there.
@@DDFishingCo Appreciate the response. As a new boat owner coming over from kayaks, am not too familiar with that specific area.
You got it man. Good luck out there in the boat, congrats to you on your first boat!
Would you suggest SF bay or Monterrey Bay for rockfish ? and any good spots from shore ?
Hmm if I was going from shore, I think there are more spots down in Monterey from the shore. But if you go up past SF and hit the Sonoma coast line and Mendocino coast line there is great rock fishing from the shore.
@@DDFishingCo thanks for the info ! Ima hit up Monterey this weekend
Nice good luck to ya
Which colors did you like to use?
In the video, we used Cali red and Tiger. They have alot of cool colors to choose from. We use brown speckle a lot too for rockfish.
Nice guys where’s the best place to launch there
Ohh there’s a lot it depends on what part of the bay is your closest ramp to home. We are north bay so we can launch in Richmond or San Rafael. There’s ramps in Berkeley and SF too
Thanks coming from Bakersfield. Just looking for a safe or safe as can be place to park my truck and trailer. Really enjoy your channel best on the tube.
Richmond has a gated in ramp. San Rafael there isn’t any riff raff at all. I’m not too sure about Berkeley, Oakland or SF
What size squidtrex did you guys use?
130 size for this application
@@DDFishingCo thanks for the info gonna have to try it out
You got it! Good luck using them, they are so versatile. You’ll love them
If youever decide to sell on a commercial level, let me know if you think its worrh the time, fees, and investment in doing so.
Thanks man, we will let you know if we go that route!
It’s not worth anyone’s time after all your expenses. Too many idiots “try” to do it.. good luck finding a buyer and if you do, I hope you don’t settle for stupid prices and ruin the market. Stick to your UA-cam videos bud.
@@STRIPERBAY408 you jelly bro? Acting like one commercial guy dictates the market value for halibut. “Troll” somewhere else
@@letsgooofishing1oh yea… soo jelly!!
It's true.. commercial buyers went from $8/lb to $5/lb within 2 months. Hard to make a living with those prices.
Doormats...
They were!
