A video involving a Purdie instructional video, a Snarky Puppy member, and edited by Vulfpeck. This is the triforce. 1:08 Purdie is singing in the same key as Corey. I'm not equipt to deal with this.
As much as I love all of Vulf records' original work, this is honestly up there with the best that's ever come out of them. It is beyond genius to create such a perfect mashup, and Jack deserves major credit for this most epic DBZ-esque fusion of legends that is so jaw-droppingly perfect. When this was taken down from UA-cam years ago due to copywrite strike, I uploaded it to Vimeo. That's how much I love it. This, Rango II with Blake Mills, and the Dean Town will forever live with me.
3:33 3 hits exactly together, by both musicians, Purdie even sings it with him, happens exactly at 3:33 in this video. I don't know how to express with words what I'm feeling right now so I'll leave it up to y'all...
@@MM-vs2et No, I believe Purdie is just performing solo drums during what looks like a masterclass in 2006 and the Cory Henry performance is an original I believe being performed in 2016
it's because purdie is like a metronome, his time is incredible. So is Henry's, he's jazz trained, rhythm is a massive part of the curriculum especially with a percussive instrument like keys.
@@jonathanaul But that's what makes this so insane, with xenochrony the purpose was usually to get bizarre rhythms from using two different recordings that were recorded at different tempos, but these two are in near perfect sync!
Trains going down a track, Latin, and church... all these influences and more in American soul music. 9 years apart, two men in two different rooms, halfway across the country, who never even saw each other, and after a bit of careful editing, it locks in as tight as a can of collard greens. Props to "Pretty" Purdie, and love for Cory Henry, who can drive a Hammond like the second coming of Billy Preston.
Every now and then I come back to this video just to remember that Life is fucking magical and awesome and that we're all connected. And also that FUNK rules!
It was these videos that lead me to discover Vulf was also a band. These mashups are amazing in so many ways but mainly two: A) The fact that you were able to find them and mash them in the first place is in and of itself a great skill... B) (Especially for those of you who aren't rhythm musicians) One has to stand in AWE of the TIMING both these musicians have individually. Trust me, what they make look effortless, is not easy. I've heard midi clocks that drift more than Bernard or Cory.
Jack, you are a genius. I'm just surprised this didn't happen sooner. Straight up funky ass quantum entanglement blessed by tha power of tha Holy Spirit...
How in the hell? How did they stay so locked the whole time when they didn’t even play this together originally? And a tempo change??They also stayed together dynamically, I’m speechless. And 3:33? WTF!?!?!
Cory's organ playing is very sensitive to Purdie's style. It's almost as if the organ was accompanying the drums. I think it's amazing. It really pays homage to the talent of Purdie.
THIS IS MADNESS! Even Purdies singing is in the key of Cory's groove... It's like they're having a dialogue: WOW! Must've taken a lot of time to find these matching vids I guess!
This is one of the most fucking amazing videos I've ever seen. When their BOP BOP BOP's lined up I literally said out loud "shut the fuck up". Wow Wow Wow
bernard's fill at 1:20 would have synced perfectly with the keyboard thing at 1:27 !!! it's still awesome tho. great job guys, especially love your videos like rango 2, so fresh
This shows music is a energy we connect with and ride, its what explains the time match up. The peaks and fills come at standard points, its the perfect sync of time that is a trip to me.
Its haunting stuff. They play 8 and 16 bar phrases in sync, change dynamics together, and even get a lot of the same hits. It's like they're in the same room.
Mind officially blown!! :) I love Purdie and Cory. I've just sat in awe, pulling bass faces like the magnificent Michael League! How about Snarky Puppy putting together a Family Dinner Volume 3 with guest appearances from Fagen/Becker, Bernard Purdie, Abe Labourielle and Return to Forever :p
1:43 the way they both accent the same part of the phrase 2:57 they both pull back at the same time 3:33 more like-minded accents absolutely credit to jack for putting this together buut the timing is just too coincidental truly amazing
The most interesting thing about Purdie’s setup is the toms. Having them set up with high on the right, and mid on the left makes it so much easier to move between them. It’s set up like marching tenor drums. Absolutely fascinating
It hasn’t been 7 years. It’s been today
Two souls jamming across space and time.
Quantum entanglement on some real shit
You keep coming back here don't you? Yeah me too...
Yes! Back again and forever loving it.
"If you want a Purdie sound, you pay a Purdie price." - Bernard Purdie
+Andrew Newbold A Purdie Penny :D
You just done hired the Hitmaker
I'm a massive Snarky Puppy and Cory Henry fan, and as a drummer I love Purdie, so naturally I think this is the best video on the internet.
Same
Me too man, me too!
Same here !
Henry is a mastermind
What a great comment! Me like

Me neither.
the holy trinities for internet videos :D
That is insane
A snarky puppy member? That is the fucking legendary Master Cory Henry - not just any old snarky puppy member
@@nnnnsaakadamanas218 more like Snarky Puppy being "the band with Cory Henry in it"

bro
it happens again 10 seconds later
It's like you bent the quantum funkanic spacetime continuum to create a funkadelic jam that never happened. What is this sorcery?
I'm in tears!!!!!
Hilarious
This is the kind of sorcery Frank Zappa used to call "xenochrony".
@@jonathanaul But that's what makes this so insane, with xenochrony the purpose was usually to get bizarre rhythms from using two different recordings that were recorded at different tempos, but these two are in near perfect sync!
Before 3:20 I was smiling. After 3:20 my jaw was on the floor.
They go to the same tempo and are even hitting shots together, what!?!?
im telling you i JUMPED
I was not prepared to have my mind blown so hard.
Even when you read this, its stil- BLOWN
This is a place I return to often.
The fact that they’re each independently keeping time so precisely is insanely impressive
Can we also take a moment to appreciate how beautiful Cory Henry is?
+Ellen C Bernard too!!!!
10/10 would go gay for
4:06 is pure gold. The 3 greatest things on earth: Purdie, Puppies, & Puppy.
snarky puppy
Bernard : "I intensified myself"
*Cory plays the sickest movement ever*
Damn, that fit together well.
This is literally the most blessed video on the internet. It's seriously holy and has me thinking Stratton is an angel.

The dog at the end!!!
i listen to this everytime i have an interview to hype me up. COME ON CHURCH

THIS mashup is so unbelievably good I think you have to be a musician to understand how ridiculously over the top the synchronicity is!!!! ROFL
14th time watching this today, I don't see stopping either
The coolest thing i've seen in a long time! (The video of the dog rolling down the stairs at the end is the cherry on top)
I hope that Both, Bernard Purdie and Cory Henry have seen this video!!! Beyond amazing!!
The dog at the end killed me, hahahahahaah. Loved the mash up, Bernard will always be one of the greats.
This is by far, one of the most incredible Mash Up's between two Dynamos, Ever made!!
this shouldn't be possible. this is a miracle

Arguably the best Vulf song that isn't Vulfpeck.
I keep coming back to this. It's so good I can't handle
I can't describe this as anything except extremely watchable. I love it.
Some Mash Up's are a true Divine spiritual pairing! This is One of those!!
I'm glad to say that I have personally met Bernard and is one of the nicest people out there. What a legend
This is so grossly underrated. I just missed Cory in my town (had to work) but I will somehow use that money to go see Cory at a later date!
My jaw dropped and stayed there, my ears cried. Beautiful funk
I've found it, the perfect video
This is one of the most fucking amazing videos I've ever seen. When their BOP BOP BOP's lined up I literally said out loud "shut the fuck up". Wow Wow Wow
This is just the coolest idea; give yourself the accompaniment of Bernard Purdie himself!
After a few years now. Still, if I ever feel down about the world, I watch this video and remember how amazing being human can be.

It's so ironic that he says that drummers shouldn't play with melody. And yet we get this masterpiece.
Being a fan of Purdie and Cory I've watched both videos before. This is a whole new territory. Fucking amazing stuff Jack!
each one of you involved in doing this piece are beatiful! thank you!
