Thanks Trev, I have been there a few times in the 80,s and 90,s but one memorable time the ferry from Bang Pae had engine trouble in a big storm, long story short, the ferry took in water, no visibility , Chinese were screaming and going ballistic , my thai girl just chanting and praying quietly . Our boat was sinking when another ferry crashed into us, we were saved but soaking wet. Never made it to Koh Samet that day. Our boat sank.
Koh Samet was the first island I went to back in 2013. I found it too crowded and commercial and a lot of rubbish dumps on the road side. Next island I visited was Koh Chaing and found that, in comparison, a paradise because it was not so crowded, less riff-raff and so much to see and do and nice roads to hire a motorbike.
I love Ko Samet. The first time I went there (20 years ago) the place had a whole bunch of malaria warning signs... which spooked this young traveler. (I got over it) The cool thing I encountered in Ko Samet is that a lot of middle class Thai people from Bangkok would go there for for short holidays/weekends and it was a great opportunity to meet "regular" Thai folks that had no connection to tourism/retail/bars/clubs etc.
While in Pattaya Beach, back around 1982, I read about Ko Samet in a magazine at a local A&W. I had an extra day off from my ship so I took off. I took a bus ride, a scooter ride, and a small boat ride out to the island. I don't remember talking to anyone except maybe at the beach restaurant. I slept in a raised up, enclosed enclosure of some kind. I had no snorkeling gear and no one to talk to for two days. It was fantastic. I can only imagine how it has changed since. While there, I saw maybe five people?
You're talking about you're bad taxi ride to Koh Samet. That's exactly why I prefer to take the bus from BKK to Pattaya, it's only 130 thb and far far safer..
Wow, So nice to see Koh Samet again after not being there for many years. Such a beautiful island with the whitest beaches I think I've ever seen. Perfect place for a romantic getaway.
Always spend 2 nights at koh samet when in pattaya some beautiful beaches all around the island. The little park area with the picnic areas is a hotspot free whi fi to catch up with people dont forget your admission fee to the park rangers
Samet was excellent back in the day and there was an old disco up in the trees. Going back 12-15 years ago!!! Eating bbq on the beach and picking the food from a fair selection was a great way to dine. Superb place. EM
Hey Trev, enjoyed this video. My first trip to Pattaya was in March. We spent 3 days on Samet, stayed at the Samet Villas. Great hotel, beach, and good restaurants nearby. They closed at 9 and we had to have dinner by 8:30. Highly recommend Samet, overall a great getaway and reasonably priced.
You convinced me! I will plan to make a 3 day trip to visit Koh Samet during my December trip. Keep up the wonderful work, I love all of your videos. I don't get bored lol, I wish they were longer.
Great Trevor… your today’s video was motivational for me to visit Thailand. Koh samet is on my first priority bucket list… keep it up… Discord too is amazing to explore the insider of Pattaya 😜😜😜
Another great vlog Trev, Koh Samet is one of my favourite Islands, absolutely love it. Its a must if people come down to Pattaya as its great to getaway for a few nights as a short break
I'm only half way through the video and I'm convinced! I'm a proper beach bum anyway, I was brought up on the coast before moving to London. I could easily chill somewhere like that with a little hotty picked up in Pattaya. It looks gorgeous. I lived on Koh Tao for 6 months, and over a year on Koh Samui, so island life works for me! Thanks for another great video Trevor....I'd love to see your missus sometime - is that a conscious choice that she doesn't want to appear in your films? Just to put a face to a name that you always mention, that's all.... Till next time.....! 👍🙂❤❤👏
You Definitely sold me on it for my later trip probably at the end of the year or early 2023. I will be in Pattaya and Jomtien this time May 10 - to June 4 👍
Thanks Trev great Video we come tp Pattaya once or twice a year for 2 weeks always spend the last 4 days at Koh Samet with a lovely dolly just to relax before we go home a top place to visit 😃😃
Great video! Koh Samet has long been on my bucket list. This video gives me more motivation to make it happen. You took me down memory lane talking about your ride there. My first trip to Thailand was back in 1998/99. I British friend recommended the trip. He was a great guy so I went, even though I knew absolutely nothing about Thailand. I didn't know he was a Cheap Charlie, and so on his advice I took a regular airport taxi from Bangkok. I swear the guy hadn't slept for 36 hours, and was coming down from some stimulant. In between his running repairs of the AC, I had to slap him hard on the shoulder to keep him awake during the drive. I honestly wasn't sure I would arrive uninjured or dead. This was pre-toll road, so the trip was a good 2 hours. Looking back, I can't believe that until Covid-19 I had never missed a year enjoying Holiday in The Land Of Smiles.
Thanks for your trip to Koh Samet got my trip booked for 27-28-29 of May staying at Sinsamut Hotel never ever been there can't wait Hopefully I can catchup at the Buzzin Bar over my stay
Just so much to see it is another on the list, At least I get a preview before going there. You should try the ride in pouring rain in a mini bus in Phuket and a few times feel the back end wiggle along the coast road with big drop off, It was a white knuckle ride grabbing the "jessus handle".

Nice video Trev, it's pretty close to my house in Ban Chang (Payoon Beach)... Ban Chang is a pretty good place to live but a very quiet town...but they do have "The Strip" for nightlife...but the girls look like they were imported from Pattaya in the 90's...it's a wasteland for young talent....Koh Samet is a good place to chill for about 3 days...:)
Went there on my first visit to thailand back in 2012. stayed at Lima Coco Resort and I remember thinking how the beds felt like I was sleeping on concrete only to look under the mattress and find it was actually a slap of concrete lol. hired a quad bike and had a lot of fun on that as alot of the roads outside of the main area were basically dirt roads. I wonder if they have finally sorted that out.

Good video Trev, are they still asking for a covid test to get on the island, myself & wifey are planning to go tomorrow, I don't mind sticking a straw up my hooter, but she ain't to keen
@@Buzzinpattaya thanks mate, I did my 5th day test today anyway, so hopefully they should be happy with that result, as for wifey, I think she deserves a cocktail stick up her nose to have the experience of what I have to go through to visit her here in Thailand 😜😜😜

mate I sink so no idea lol
Good video Trev, are they still asking for a covid test to get on the island, myself & wifey are planning to go tomorrow, I don't mind sticking a straw up my hooter, but she ain't to keen
When I arrived I walked straight in yet I met somebody else later on and they said they were asked to do a test
@@Buzzinpattaya thanks mate, I did my 5th day test today anyway, so hopefully they should be happy with that result, as for wifey, I think she deserves a cocktail stick up her nose to have the experience of what I have to go through to visit her here in Thailand 😜😜😜
Hi Trev, have you heard the news (from the Thaiger) about the Thailand Pass being scrapped on June 1st? And also do you actually believe it?
Needs to be published in the Gazette
Have they stopped the PCR test for
Koh Samed? I had to cancel a week or so back coz I caught the lurgy.
Yes

@@Buzzinpattaya good news. Cheers.
