Whoa. This discussion is very inaccurate. 1. The West has NOT decoupled from China per law or decree. 2. Apple, Samsung, Toyota, Walmart, and other companies are moving operations to other countries to protect their supply chains. 3. Many companies are pulling out of China to protect their intellectual property -- designs & processes that are the bases of their companies. 4. The decoupling process is fueled by China's own laws and regulations. The fact that anything can be labeled as espionage means everyone is at risk of being jailed by China. Companies cannot operate when visiting executives are put at such risk. Companies cannot operate in China when China retains the right to demand any info from that company. So, even if US and other governments did nothing many companies would still pull out of China. Please STOP blaming the decoupling on western government policies.
How about the west stop invading and warmongering in the middle east, get off Venezuela Guatamala conflict, stop pouring billions fueling war in Ukraine and get off South China sea for a change

Ping’s idea of globalization is quite different from that of western countries. China has become an economic and a military super power because of benign belief of democracies that with prosperity China’s hegimonistic tendencies will moderate, bullying of neighbors will change to regional cooperation. Until Ping came to power this trend was visible. However Ping changed this upside down. He weaponized every gain from coupling with the west to threaten not only the neighbors but even the major industrial nations. He picked up quarrel with his benefactors such as US, UK, EU, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia etc and subjugated those who were naive enough to fall in his belt & road trap. Therefore ‘decoupling’ is the right strategy till Ping, a bosom friend of Putin, remains in power.
China's campaign for world unity is very good. But Southeast Asian countries are threatened by China's actions in claiming the South China Sea. The South China Sea conflict makes it difficult for China to get support from Southeast Asian countries. China has only it'self to blame. The smarter parts of the world know this .... and the less than smart parts will unfortunatly have to go through a little pain to realise the truth. Shifting western investment and supply chains to neighbours like the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and honest trading former communist countries like, Lao, Cambodia and Vietnam will not only help to develop those countries and streghten regional democracy but also reward honest partners (even if they are socialist states). Global trade will eventualy return - thought it might take a while (years or decades) but when it does it should be with much stronger expectations - and less greed. Once biten, twice shy.
Hope is not a strategy, little boy. What you would like to see vs reality is very different. China invested in itself while the West fought useless wars for 2 decades. Now they are competitive in most industries and will displace the West.
The high edge technology in the west is irreplaceable for China whereas many poor countries are perfectly happy to take the cheap manufacturing jobs from china😂😂😂 it takes time for the west to decouple but China has no other partner to replace the west with except those corrupt, cheap, opaque, unstable countries😂😂😂
She understood that cheap production for cheap products have being leaving China for decade now, the Chinese companies are the main investor in many cheaper neighbor countries. China is too expensive today for cheap products, that’s the reason the government push so hard in high end production: in AI, semiconductors, EVs, airplanes, shipbuilding (super cruisers), weaponry. China is making significant progress since otherwise it will be economically dead.
the problem is that much of the new generation chinese do not want to work in factories anymore. but for more advanced products - that can compite in world market- ,software, design, hibrid products etc - you need a workforce with access to free flow and exchange of information, access to western databases, internet, but in autocratic chinese state model that is not possible.
China missed their chance to become a service economy and their conduct/politics alienated the western world. Division is here to stay. There will be some dealing between the two but not as before.
Good point. The issue is that China is moving to becoming a middle-income to high-income country. The cost of production is simply too high, so this means the only way to absorb the labor is move up the value chain. For many years, the debt drive real estate sector could absorb all that labor, but it is unsustainable.
China needs to meet with and formerly declare peace with Taiwan and agree to never attack it, and formerly disband communism, and simply adopt social democracy. Then, western nations will trust them and work more closely with them.
The trouble there is that China views Taiwan as Chinese territory. They've said this over and over again. In their eyes it wouldn't be attacking another country because they don't recognise it as an independent country. It would be 'reunification'. So that's very unlikely. Communism as an economic model was abandoned decades ago. There hasn't been a serious challenge to the one-party state since Tiananmen Square in 1989, and there is no pro-democracy movement of any sort in the country. In fact organized opposition to the political system is illegal. So it would be a very strange occurrence if the CPC just willingly, without any internal pressure, gives up its hold on 1.3 billion people and the soon-to-be largest economy in the world. In short - none of that is going to happen.

Excellent idea. Taiwan can give it's slow-witted big brother some well needed advice
Why would it be a problem to the rest of the world when US and EU are moving business from China to India, Vietnam or other countries?
Yes, but what to do when in 20-30 years India, Vietnam or other countries become developed and want to move up the value chain? How do we keep them down? We failed to keep China down already, do we need other competitors?
@@alexlazar4738It's not about keeping anyone down. It's about sharing with partners that also share our values. Which China obviously doesn't.
Philippines would be the best bet to move the businesses. The Philippines has always been one of the loyal allies of the US and has no ambition similar to what china is doing.

Signed in 1971, the FPDA consists of the five powers consulting each other "immediately" in the event of threat or an armed attack on any of the FPDA members for the purpose of deciding what measures should be taken, jointly or separately in response. The US would come to the aid of three of its 5 eyes.

If China was winning the diplomacy war in the South China Sea, then why are all the countries in the region signing or jumping on defense pacts, buying more military hardware, or allowing the US access to more bases -- 5 to 9 bases in the Philippines? And, the G7 has warned China about weaponing the South China Sea after international courts ruled their claims to it illegal.
I believe you're the one that's out of touch.
Besides, if no cargo travels through the South China Sea, how will China get its manufacturing out? The EU blocked access from Russia, the "silk road" is fraught with conflict or destabilized nations, and the G7 would act together as it has historically done. And BRICS, outside of Russia -- they still have a bunch of nukes and hardware -- is a joke. You think the Saudis would ally with China in a conflict against the US? Who will protect Saudi if Iran decides to strike and the US is caught in a South China Sea conflict? The Saudis wanted the F35 and buy F15s.
China thought they could bully everyone, but now that there are cheaper options without the headaches (false detention, arrests, prison time, ransacking of offices, more onerous bureaucracy), and capitalists are reconsidering their footprint in China.

Nice, she gets us. Who is to say, China's goal is not to play nice until they have secretly passed us all. They may have thought they were ready now, but they astronomically miscalculated. They should have thought of joining the developed world, rather than declaring war on our way of life, "Western". Heck, if Japan had not been in Asia, we may have already been passed without knowing it. Any change now, adds to their ultimate ambition of shaping the world in their image with them leading it. Why reverse and pass this problem to our future selves and generations. Blame their air balloon, as our red line they crossed.
