  • After pitching the company, which sells university notes compiled by students, founders Richard Hordern-Gibbings and Hugh Minson asked the sharks for $300,000 for 7.5% of the company.
    An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

      Exactly what came to my mind immediately. How could they not just say, "Their investment was at an earlier date and their investment allowed us to re-evaluate our evaluation of our business to what it is now that we're asking of you sharks." or something along those lines.
      Also, Shark Tank Aus is so cringe, the Sharks seem to be so far up their own asses 99% of the time it hurts to watch. Like how for some reason these Sharks think that shares never fluctuate in value. At the end of the video Janine says something about how can it be valued at X then weeks later be valued at 600% higher. Shits cringe.

      Exactly , so amateurish to be honest ... Or they could have spoke about each of the mentors at startmate , stated each and every network those mentors bring and said , they have a successful network of investors so each one brings something different , since there is 6 of those people it commands 6x the value (maybe not as harsh) but there abouts ... In all fairness startmates network is good so they could have focused on that in detail to state the differences in value proposed ... All us entrepreneurs find it difficult to challenge when clear numbers are presented ... It might not have got them the investment but atleast it wouldn't have looked as blatant .... Essentially what they did was wrong anyway so the best you can ask for is to get out not looking like a total con man .... 6 times the value only after a few weeks is a rort no matter how you look at it ...

      This is a life risk. The whole startup is based on his work. The idea is utterly useless if the implementation sucks.

      @Jessica7318 3 роки тому +1

      @@Timthevapeman44 Taj on Draong's Den I find I can do without. He seems pretty bland. The same for me goes with Jenny. Deborah, I must admit I find to be a staple of the show. Her, Peter, Duncan in the old days... to me they really had their niche and their specialty. There is also something very camera-friendly about Deborah. In a show like this, there's a great value in a dragon willing to be more talkative. Personality and charm aside, there's nothing more dull than when a dragon says: "I like this, but it's not for me and I'm out." or just "I'm out." Now, it'll happen to everyone at some point, the sheer number of pitches they listen to and the editing, you won't get a novel from every dragon on every decision, but dragons (or sharks) who are willing to explain their decision more often than others will provide a little more value to the 'watcher'. I love hearing the 'explanation' from a dragon as they assess the situation and explain why they're making an offer they are, or why they're uninterested, the struggles they see down the line, and the reason they can't justify an investment.
      Whether it be:
      - Conflict of interest (dragon/shark is involved with a similar product in another company).
      - Numbers not adding up
      - De-motivating an Entrepreneur (when the amount of equity they'd have to ask for is just so high the entrepreneur would own a very small piece. The result of this is that the entrepreneur is likely to lose motivation for it, which they'd still have if they could make more of the upside etc).
      - Not being a natural fit (the dragon can invest the 'money' but isn't a 'natural' investor. Every dragon tends to specialize in something, or have their area of expertise, and a 'natural' fit comes when an entrepreneur needs help in an area a dragon is an expert in. Those are the ideal partnerships)
      - Market knowledge (When an investor can love the entrepreneur, but simply know 'so much' about the market that they just get this strong feeling the entrepreneur is not cut out for what's coming. There can be this feeling that based on how the industry works, they know what the entrepreneur would need to succeed, and they also know what they look for in those first few minutes of meeting the person. It's very possible they can get the impression this person is unprepared or unequipped for what they'd need to do to succeed. They also know what this person is up against and knows more about what this person will have to face than this person thinks they'll need to do. As such, they have to refuse getting involved because they don't want to step into a bad situation trying to 'save' it when they can enter a situation that is more likely to succeed or encounter less struggle, and they have a better chance of making a victory more 'complete' rather than turning an outright slaughter into a 'well we gave it our best!'.)
      All this to say, I think as viewers of the show, we really benefit from Dragons who are entertaining and inspiring, we have our favorites and they stick with us. We love certain dragons, and some will always irk us and get under our skin. Personality, engagement, whatever draws you to a dragon is really up to you. But as a general principle, I like when Dragons are willing to 'explain' their reasoning in more pitches than not. An example of a reasoning that leaves me dumbfounded can be represented in:
      "I love this. There's definitely a market for it, you're clearly very good, you know the industry, you've done a lot with a little, no debt, you're doing everything right and I wish you all the best. I also really see how I could help on this so I'm tempted. I really am. But I'm afraid on this one I'm going to be out."
      To me, there's not really much explanation there as to why the dragon wouldn't invest. If they felt they couldn't help, I could accept that. "You're doing everything great, and I'd be tempted to give you the money just to see what you do with it... I have no doubt I'd get a return, but that would just be me adding money without being what you 'really need' as a partner, so I'm going to be out on this one since other investors would be a much better fit for you." - I could totally get that. But to say everything is great and you could help, and you won't without saying what it is that has you deciding against it feels tougher on the viewer to get, when in a very next pitch your comment might be: "I like this. I'm going to make you an offer."
      All in all, Deborah is really known for being one of the more outspoken sharks and she does give the editors a lot to work with. Peter was the same, as was Duncan.

      The majority of the university is learning to pass tests, not just knowledge of a discipline but also knowledge on what the teachers want.
      Where I studied we really depend on each other to understand things because a lot of teachers didnt explain us anything, even some of then didnt even teach, they just took tests every class of whatever they send us to study.

      There are lots of rules that make it to where the information shared in the classroom are reserved for the paying students." I agree with the intellectual property NOT being given out. It is actual information, and experience. No one should make easy money off someone else's work.
      There was a professor who had spent most of his adult life doing research and linking specific texts together in order to demonstrate how Literature piggy-backed off each other through the course of history. The difficulty to track down all the information, rare texts, multiple languages, the contextual originality and demonstrate that information in a coherent manner was impressive.
      Sorry, but I would consider it stealing if I had been in that man's shoes. Stealing my research and selling that information to another person WITHOUT MY permission is BS.

    • @tonydarcy7475
      @tonydarcy7475 3 роки тому

      I’ve never done that and my average mark is a distinction. I’ve learnt it’s a lot better to read notes that are extremely focused on what the student needs to know (my uni provides these, but I know most don’t) over and over again, than what it is to spend a lot of time reading the textbook, attending lectures etc. which have a lot more information, but much of it is not really that relevant.
      Even with a service like this, if the notes miss something or contain errors, that’s fine - just do your best. No student is expected to get 100% on tests / the exam and the fact that it will contain the vast majority of the information needed, will help most students a lot more than a thick textbook as it is just so much more focused on what the student must know for the subject.

    Don't understand how these two competent guys did not explain that their company objectively gained in value, or perhaps the editing is misleading and they cut it out.
