My husband doesn't even like having them at home due to the fire risk. Regarding travel sickness, I find keeping busy, don't read, minimise what you eat and drink helps reduce the sloshing effect in your stomach. Having said that, dry crackers help soak up liquid in your stomach. Green apples sprinkled with salt is popular with crew to help prevent seasickness. As is drinking a glass or 2 of wine to get tipsy.
