You nailed it once again, bro. Especially where you mention how Joe Zito improved his storytelling/character craft with Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter. Amazing kills in The Prowler. Yes, some of the genres greatest ever but the stuffy middle and dull characters prevent it from being a CLASSIC classic. 👍
Drumdums that's high praise, bro! Thanks a lot! Keep the awesome slasher reviews rolling. I'm pinned! As long as it's not by Pinhead I'm happy with that! 😄👍
Awesome review Lee, this film titled Rosemarys Killer in UK & up until recently was cut to bits, thankfully common sense prevailed & been released uncut. I enjoyed this one, the kills pack a gory gut punch thanks to Tom Savini excellent FX work & the movie is so well directed by Joe Zito & paced & crammed with some suspenseful moments. Great review Lee it's always great hearing another horror fans thoughts & opinions on these movies.
I just saw this for the first time a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It's a pretty iconic look. You're right about it dragging in places, but I did really enjoy it straddling the line between being a slasher and a murder mystery. I'd like to see more slashers try to flex that particular storytelling muscle.
Fun part is that Savini himself performed the kills in the film. He was usually the one wearing the costume during all the murder scenes while a stuntman did the rest
Just got my slasher movie book in the mail the other day. It is freaking awesome. There is one movie in there called "Body Count" (image on the cover) , that is so rare and hard to find. It looks like a really great movie. Hopefully Scream Factory will get a hold of it someday. I recently watched a great horror comedy called "Dr. Giggles" (1992). That is about a man, who thinks he is a doctor, escapes from a mental hospital. He then dresses like a doctor, and looks for patients to kill. Can't say much without spoiling. This is one of those movies where the killer drops mad one liners/ puns. It stars Larry Drake and Hollie Marie Combs. I'd recommend this, if you haven't already seen it.
I'm thankful I grew up in North America and was able to watch movies like this. Feel bad for all the people from the U.K. who had to deal with all the Video Nasty and the butchering of all the classic horror movies.
Nice review mate. An under seen slasher that I really dig, Tom Savini Masterclass. I also really love the seen when the cop calls the fishing campsite looking for the chief .
I haven't seen this one in a lot of years. I remember enjoying the kills, but like you said, I felt like I spent most of the movie waiting for something else to happen. Great review.
I have that book but it's called Teenage Wasteland. The book was released in Europe first with that title, and later in the US with a different title. And Have you seen the Burning? Great savini effects!
I've seen bits and pieces of this but not the whole thing. Ever seen Intruder? It was made by Sam Raimi's circle of friends and Sam and Bruce Campell act in it.
I just re-watched "The Prowler." Yeah, there's not much story there... loads of characters walking slowly around a house... but it was pretty decent overall. And I just ordered that book on Amazon. (It's called "Teenage Slasher Book" though...)
The Prowler is one of my favorite slasher films. Tom Savini does the best special effects. Loved on the special features how he did the fence kill. There is a lesser known whodunit slasher out there called The Majorettes (1987). That also had a decent pool death scene.
So glad you talked about this. One of my absolute favorite slashers. The kills, the killer, the characters are all great. Even the practical effects are pretty awesome.
I’m sorry that you didn’t experience this until moderately recently. This is 1 of Savinis’ black out masterpieces. I’m very happy you’ve found this. Review is awesome as always. I’m sure you’ve reviewed or at least watched Maniac. Gonna check out the review now
Glad to see you finally got a chance to see The Prowler. It's one of my favorites and it IS PRECISELY because of the great kills. I have the Blue Underground Blu-ray of it and it is so much brighter and better than my VHS copy was. All the kills are lit up nicely to see. I've been checking out some slashers from the The Slasher Movie Book. I recently bought Evil Judgment but have yet to view it. The slasher is one of my favorite horror genres too. I'm going to check out a few more of your videos. Keep the facial hair man. It looks better on you.
that slasher book looks awesome! The prowler ending will always stick with me, that effect by Tom Savini when the killer is unmasked and then....... wow! I haven't seen the movie in years but I remember that scene.
One of my favorite slasher films. It probably has some of the more suspenseful and tense moments in the slasher genre. The kills however are the highlight of course. The bayonet to the head and the pool scene were the stand out scenes for me. Great review!
Great review Lee, The Prowler is a pretty good slasher, I like the tension and build up and the kills are great but I agree the pacing could be better and the characters could be improved! I made the same mistake, I thought the lead actress was Amy Steel for awhile but I eventually realised it wasn't! Tom Savini did a great job on the practical effects, it is some of his best work! Joseph Zito knows how to build up tension and suspense and he did a good job here though I agree Friday The 13th The Final Chapter is where he nailed it, my only gripe with him is when it came to safety in The Final Chapter but that's a discussion for another time!
@@DrumdumsOfficial the initiation was another great slasher movie with the evil twin plot twist though it had daphne zuniga as the good twin and evil twin.
Another great review Lee! I have yet to actually see this movie and after watching your review for The Town that Dreaded Sundown both the original and the second which I loved both of thought they were awesome! Gonna watch this one tomorrow as I have some free days off here and I could use a good slasher that I haven't seen yet. Gonna make it a few days of never before seen slashers gonna watch this and follow it up with Terror Train as I haven't seen that and heard awesome things about it. Again Lee you are amazing and I love the reivews man I lurked most of the stream as well and had it on while I was doing paper work and it kept distracting me haha. Keep up the amazing amazing work Lee I know you hear that a lot but damn these are great!
You mentioned upgrading to Bluray and it got me thinking since not all blurays are immensely better in picture quality compared to DVDs, which horror movies really stand out on Bluray? I imagine Susperia could be one. BTW, if you love slasher movies so much, I highly recommend Dario Argento's Opera (a.k.a. Terror at the Opera) for it's outstanding gore effects even though the ending sucks, lol. Great video as always, Lee!
Gonna have to give this one a go. The kills look amazing! Joseph Zito did direct my favourite of the Friday the 13th films - he created such a great atmosphere with that 4th movie.
I always said the final girl in this movie reminded me of Amy Steele. That end scene was almost Friday the 13th 2.0. Even the beginning kill was reminiscent of Sandra's kill in F13 2
Hey Lee, loved The Prowler. 1981 was the golden year for the slasher. The Burning is another one. I just picked up Hell Night from Scream Factory. Love slasher movies and great review. Have you seen or plan on reviewing The Mutilator?
The kills in this movie were great. That dude being stabbed through the head with a sword, then his eyes going white, one of the best slasher movie kills I’ve ever seen.
This is personally one of my favorite slasher films of all time. I always said that this movie is up to personal preference, people like me will think it's one of the best slashers while some people will say it's not good except for the gore. I personally like the slowness in the middle.it builds up a lot of suspense. I personally prefer this over Friday the 13th the Final Chapter.
Creepingcam1070 Yes, I think the foggy, soft focus and slower pace work for the story and who the killer ends up being. He's not a college athlete or a big, hulking guy so, in a way, the deliberate chases lend themselves to a more realistic reveal at the end. It's not my favorite, but well done.
First off, yep, still here! (Your awesome!) second off, this must have been another movie that snuck under my radar on my late night research runs as a teen. Must rectify that, as I LOVE slasher films. 🖤 EDIT: btw, with the new vlog camera, the multi-angle thing is fancy!
actually the friday the 13th movies especially the final chapter, a new beginning, part 6 jason lives and a new blood were all originally just as gory as the prowler....the problem like you said is the MPAA cut the movies down so much that we wind up getting a fraction of the gore that the director intended.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the kills hang. The scenes of the kills are not only on screen, but it takes it's time and keeps pushing. And right as I said that you mentioned it 🤣
A couple slasher movie books I gotta recommend are Slashed Dreams Part 1 & 2 by Ronnie Angel. He's a friend of mine and he interviewed so many great people for the books. He also includes pretty much any slasher movie in existence. He knows his stuff.
Great review!!! One of my favorite slasher films the pool kill and the kill scene in the dorm when the guy gets stabbed were the best kills in the film!
Great review bro I always like this movie even though I didn't really understand his reasoning for coming back 30 years later to do it again I mean he did it back in the 50s because he got a Dear John right. Anyways though bro great review and I'm really glad that the Halloween stream went so well for you it was a blast to watch. If you ever feel like slumming it down here in the UA-cam slums I would love to do something with you....lol
Haha thanks brother. I don't think they really cared that much about the story tbh haha. They just needed a platform for the glorious kills. Have an awesome week brother.
Lee, hope you liked your mail last week. Quick question: what is another DARK, NON-GOOFY, ATMOSPHERIC slasher akin to My Bloody Valentine or The Prowler? I prefer less comedy and more sinister vibes in my slashers. Yes, I realize most slashers are meant to be fun, but anything like those aforementioned that aren't part of the big franchises? I've seen most but open to suggestions. Thanx!
I just recently saw this film. I agree it was pretty good. The acting and storyline were good and it was filmed really well. It’s not super cheesy like some 80’s movies
Hi there handsome, thanks for this review, I watched this movie long time ago, and now that you bring it back, I'm gonna add it to my must buy movies list, I love your review, and how you appreciate the artwork in the makeup killing scenes. Have a nice week, and keep doing this! :*
Lee great review as always. Don't feel bad I just seen this movie about a year-and-a-half ago.It is a pretty good movie it does have some pretty good kills kind of slow seen the ending coming from a mile away still a good movie and I did not realize it was directed by Joseph Zito so always learn something new watching your reviews Thanks.🤘🤘🤘
these kills we re so brutal in the prowler we never got to see it growing up Friday and nightmare and Halloween I grew up seeing on TV but not the prowler local or cable TV because the kills we re over the top to much and thank good the ww 2 veterans didn't get angry or protested over a world war 2 news reel being used in a slasher film lol
Love this movie, my only problem is really just the pacing, but the kills are fantastic! Would love to see your thoughts on The Pool from 2001, a fun slasher film with some good kills.
Spot-on review! Just picked up the blu-ray and watched it the other night. Hadn't seen it in a long time, but remembered this being pretty slow and only memorable because of Savini's effects. Yep, opinion hasn't changed much. A slow movie with un-memorable characters who wander around a lot, a weak script, lacking in scares and suspense...but Savini's kills will knock your socks off! A good movie to riff on with friends and beers.
I'm late to the party but just finished watching this, and yes the kills were amazing! And yes the rest of the movie drags on with almost like a cat and mouse type movie, but the stalking and chasing get old really fast, and makes the killer look stupid that he smashes everything in the room but never checks the bed or under the bed. Plus several times she is trapped in a corner, or by a locked door or window and yet he gives her so much time to run away. She should have been killed at least 10 times. I don't know why but I thought the killer was the sheriff. Anyways great movie with great practical effects, and great review and content as always. Drumdums out! Lol
final chapter was so much better, this is like looking into one of those old portraits from the 1940s just too glossy a bit foggy and it drags! but the kills are good and the music is good. this and the burning would have been more memorable if they had better scripts.
kenneth minear YES The Burning needed a better script. It was okay, but it felt too much like Meatballs with some kills tossed in. I'm also surprised how many people give The Burning a pass on the night scenes shot during the day, which are too obvious--ruins the atmosphere for me.
Good review. The kills where indeed fantastic and i also think this might be Tom Savini s best work. Vicky Dawson does have a little resemblance with Amy Steel, they could play sisters in a movie. She did a good job in this movie. I don t agree that the movie dragged, i was on the edge of my seat the whole time haahaa. The story was simple but it worked for me. Funny fact: The first time i watched this movie i didn't really liked it, the second time i liked it, and after my 3th watch last night i really liked it haahaa
Halloween was what got me into horror it was the first horror movie I have ever watched back in the day when tbs, USA and tnt had Saturday moviethons! This movie was the best!
True it is about the kills but they are glorious. Top notch effects work by Savini. The film lacks a memorable score. The look of the killer is awesome as well and I like the reveal. Great review!
I pretty much watch all my horror movies while medicated on cannabis. So I will say my favorite kill the knife through the skull had me shocked lol.. one of the most brutal kills I've ever seen. But the plot is nothing spectacular. Definitely a must watch if you're into gore horror!

Love the multi angle with the camera. Great job Lee! That shower scene is the exact reason i lock the door when i take a shower lol
Thank you Holly. I might continue to use this technique. Just don't want to be overbearing with it. And that shower scene. Wow!
I really enjoyed the Prowler . It was slow some times , but the kills make up for that and the early chase scene when Pam sees the Prowler is amazing
But the kills are some of the best of the genre!
Fun part is that Savini himself performed the kills in the film. He was usually the one wearing the costume during all the murder scenes while a stuntman did the rest

Love this movie, my only problem is really just the pacing, but the kills are fantastic! Would love to see your thoughts on The Pool from 2001, a fun slasher film with some good kills.
Also, the movie is set a swimming pool so I’m sure The Pool would be right up your alley!
Never seen this one, I'll be sure to check it out sometime!
It's a must watch for a slasher fan Daniel.
Anthony Clark Hell yeah I'll look for it after work! Thanks for letting me know, if it's not I'll find another way. Haha
Also Daniel it is on Shudder.
Drumdums Thanks for letting me know Lee!
I just ordered the blu-ray as well (upgrading the dvd). The kills are legendary in this one.
Hi Lee, have you heard of the slasher film Alice, Sweet, Alice?. If so what are your opinions on it.
I literally just ordered it yesterday haha. Never seen it, but heard great things.
Drumdums It’s a great movie, the killers reveal is surprising.
ChillerKiller88 Yeah, watched it last night, really good movie.
Lol
Prowler is the shit lee!! Saw it for the first time earlier this year and was not disappointed. The kills are top notch
One of the best 80's slashers! 🔪 I have that book too 🤗 Its SO good. I've seen almost every slasher in it too lol
Damn that's impressive Jill! There are so many deep cuts in that book. I'm always using it as a quick reference.
this one is on my top 15 of the best slashs ever =D great vid bro
Thanks Diogo! And damn those kills were amazing!
oh yes those kills ... the name savini says it all brother
I watched this movie one time after seeing this video and the whole time my dad kept talking abt the kills and for some reason the killers boots.
final chapter was so much better, this is like looking into one of those old portraits from the 1940s just too glossy a bit foggy and it drags! but the kills are good and the music is good. this and the burning would have been more memorable if they had better scripts.
Oh definitely. But the kills are amazing in this one.
kenneth minear YES The Burning needed a better script. It was okay, but it felt too much like Meatballs with some kills tossed in. I'm also surprised how many people give The Burning a pass on the night scenes shot during the day, which are too obvious--ruins the atmosphere for me.
I just thought of something crazy from halloween how does michael drive when he first breaks out of the asylum (WTF)
"Maybe someone around here gave him lessons"
Just watched this again, such good kills man. And the killer looks cool as hell. Plus the final girl isn’t too bad
Yeah some of the best kills horror has to offer!
I love the Prowler, despite the obvious killer
I thought it was refreshing to have sort of an obvious killer. Kind of like Terror Train.
Just watched it for the first time today. I did like it. The kills were great but your right about it dragging on at some points.
Hell yeah buy it for the kills!
The UK version I have on DVD doesn't censor anything which is awesome
Awesome!!
I swear, every time you cut to a different angle, I expect Michael Myers or something to pop out lol
Hahaha I'm keeping you on your toes!
The slasher movie book is really fantastic book.
I like The Prowler AKA Rosemarys killer
Good review. The kills where indeed fantastic and i also think this might be Tom Savini s best work. Vicky Dawson does have a little resemblance with Amy Steel, they could play sisters in a movie. She did a good job in this movie. I don t agree that the movie dragged, i was on the edge of my seat the whole time haahaa. The story was simple but it worked for me. Funny fact: The first time i watched this movie i didn't really liked it, the second time i liked it, and after my 3th watch last night i really liked it haahaa
Shout out to ACDC's song 'Night Prowler'
Awesome review! You’re #1 in my book Lee.
Thank you David!
Halloween was what got me into horror it was the first horror movie I have ever watched back in the day when tbs, USA and tnt had Saturday moviethons! This movie was the best!
Hell yeah. The kills!!
Giving this one a watch Lee!!!!! Hopefully i like it... I know its a slow burn .. But that's ok...
Yeah I dug it.
True it is about the kills but they are glorious. Top notch effects work by Savini. The film lacks a memorable score. The look of the killer is awesome as well and I like the reveal. Great review!
I noticed quite a few similarities in terms of the score to Friday part 4 actually haha.
Now I'm definitely giving this one a watch 😁
You definitely should Ashley!
You forgot about the killers head being blown off.
Yes!
I was maybe 12 when I tried to get it in a video store on my aunty's account saying it was for her. I ended up going home with Back to the future 2😂
Hahaha that sucks man.
Pretty cool little slasher film, I liked it. Great Kills. Kinda reminded me of Friday the13th part 2 alot. I'd rate it a 7/10
Hell yeah some of the best kills!
Loved The Prowler. Should have had a confrontation between the villain and male lead, however.
Classic in every sense!
I watch Prowler just because of Tom Savini
That's a good reason to watch it.
I pretty much watch all my horror movies while medicated on cannabis. So I will say my favorite kill the knife through the skull had me shocked lol.. one of the most brutal kills I've ever seen. But the plot is nothing spectacular. Definitely a must watch if you're into gore horror!
