The daddest shoes in the game
The bassist is a monster!
Channeling his inner Jaco in the presence of Mr. Erskine.
Somebody please give SPUT an AWARD coz he is the MAN!!!
Between this and the Zildjian Live series, Sput has assembled some of the greatest musicians I've ever heard in my life. What blows me away the most is that most of them have never played together before, and they can still throw down a groove like they've been playing together for years.
I've already got my tickets ready to go for the Ghost-Note show in my town in the net couple of months. I can't get enough of Sput's genius .
AMEN!!!❤
This so in the pocket that I washed it, dried it, and found it on my way to work the next day
@@StevenJamesBurks i feel you bro.
@@StevenJamesBurks couldn't agree more
@@StevenJamesBurks "Until you play for Steely Dan, or Weather Report may I suggest you revise your breaking down of Peter's 'lacking' anything, but still keep your opinion because everyone's opinion is respected even if not agreed upon....Peter Erskine is an incredible drummer who was definitely in the pocket and has enough swing to start his own playground."
@@StevenJamesBurks So, having read your comments, I've listened to this several times, and I still don't hear the problems you are describing. In fact, on each listen I'm hearing more subleties in Peter's playing that I hadn't noticed before. Now, I realize that this could be because I don't have the refined ears you do. So, if you had a chance, perhaps you could pick out some specific sections on this where you think the groove is particularly lacking . Which parts could use "more ghost notes ?" In what sections does Peter's interpretation of the swing note differ from the rest of the band ?
Legendary! I love how Erskine allows the band to take center stage while he just lays back and keeps time. Until, of course, his moment arrives but it always feels so cohesive, like a perfectly blended cocktail.
I never clicked so fast on a video .... the finest ever
I was watching a Mia Khalifa classic. Hadn't time to finish the view
Peter Erskine is timeless. He let the band and the arrangement SHINE the whole time. Subtle yet driving the band on a nice Sunday drive. It is always great to hear him play! A master on his instrument!
Amazing performance as always ...I first saw Mr Erskine perform with Weather Report in 1977
I was very lucky to see Jaco Pastorius and Peter Erskine play together. without a doubt one of the most amazing rhythm sections I have ever seen !
Pure Magic !
That bassist is really doing Jaco proud over there. Erskine is always just absolute class.
my thoughts too. He did his best to save Jaco from destruction.
Every single beat from peter has his own character, own feeling....Peter is the best!!!!!
Old school yet still fresh and exciting! Also shoutout to anyone throwing in some A Zildjian cymbals in their setup. Harsh and bright and funky; the stuff drummers play when they're not afraid to be heard.
Sean wright is just shaking his head in every one of these videos
3:00 When a Master, Recognize another Master. ☺️👍🏻☕️
Ayyyyy, that's Benny Greb, right?
Not a Drummer alive who Didn't Go to SCHOOL on that Super fine musical playing right there!!!! Got'a love Peter Soooooo Good!!!! God Bless VFJams. and the awesome band playing the spirit of Weather Report.
This is what decades of striving to learn and improve sounds like. There’s such a pleasant aspect of maturity in his playing overall, not just here. Really digging the Weather Report vibe. Hats off to all the people involved.
Erskine feels so locked in because of his experience with weather report and recording for vince mendoza, he is the best drummer in the world for this kind of music and has been for the last 30 years. his musicality and how he lets the arrangement speak for itself is unmatched.
Sax at 1:28 Completely melted my face
😁
@@benburget931 hey dude! you absolutely killed it!
His touch is so perfect. He's the kind of player that can play a snare solo that brings tears to your eyes. I can only imagine the amount of time it took to develop his feel to that level. Thanks for the great performance.
Benny with that front row seat. Great tune from Peter Erskine.
this man signed a drum head for me. forever grateful
I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present!! Peter Erskine is soooo awesome and the entire band was great! Thanks for posting this.
elmhurst86 happy birthday 😊
@@sondrerasmussen8674 Thanks!
I never heard such a deep sounding "14 floor tom in all my years of playing.. Tama Star series are some mighty fine drums..
This is the kind of drumming that actually gets the gig, and the call back. And, he's reading a drum chart. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a first take. I always have some love for Peter Erskine. He must be getting close to 70-years old by now!
I mean he may have a chart, but it's his tune, I agree with you though.
Mills Dickson This was take #2, actually. Reading because I was pretty busy working on another project at the time, so I didn’t really do my homework for this. Sput’s arrangement is terrific. The fun thing was being in that studio, the very same place where I made my first professional recording 47 years ago (with Stan Kenton, it was known as Western Studios back then). For the record, I just celebrated my 65th birthday. Thanks for all of the nice comments!
@@PeterErskine_FuzzyMusic Happy Birthday Peter! Thanks for the clarification, you sound amazing.
@@PeterErskine_FuzzyMusic Thank you Peter for all the continued musical/drumming inspiration!.... I'm 54 yrs. old now but, at around age 14-15 yrs. old, I saw you in clinic at a N.J. hotel in Middlesex/Piscataway with Eddie Gomez....I will NEVER forget the enjoyment I had AND, the "impact" you/your playing has had on me to this day...Just a sincere word of thanks.....Todd Walker
@@PeterErskine_FuzzyMusic No one will ever be able to compete with your class and style. Truly the Gentleman drummer. May whatever your faith is in help you keep yourself safe and well. Thank You for your gracious technique and gift of great music which we'll never be able to repay. Respectfully, All your friends in musicality. Stay Blessed.✌
his control is otherworldly
between this and zildjian live it’s a good year for drum content for sure
Absolutely, positively BRILLIANT!! Every person involved in this project (Peter, the musicians, the video/audio/lighting/staging technical crew) are virtuoso artists!!!! Thanks to Vic Firth and VFJams for making these amazing recordings!! I've been playing with Vic Firth sticks for 30+ years. They're the ONLY sticks I ever use.
Peter is incredible. The whole band is just right on it.
Reminiscent of Mike Stern's album "Time in Place" with Peter on drums.
Peter has that old school dynamic groove that is so rare these days.
One of a kind.
That Prophet pad sound in the intro and throughout is so creamy.
Dafnis Prieto please!
Also, that was sick
大津泰人 well they had to release that damn virus so I don’t think he will be going to your country dude
those who thumbed down.. Step away from the crack pipe!!!!
HaHa! Amen!
The finest living drummer on this planet.

0:58 the man himself Sean Wright! Anyways, I love Mr Erskine’s tom tone. They are tuned high but it’s not annoying at all

Peter Erskine and Jack Dejohnette are the best classical jazz drummers in contemporary music 💙

That touch... awesome! Living music history.
Great arrangement. Erskine sounding as good as ever. Love these jams.
Beautiful music, played beautifully! Obviously too, there's a lot of mutual respect and love in this room too, which is what great music can do for all of us. Awesome.
Wow. That was special.
Man! His cymbal choice is beauuutiful. Perfect setup.
Jens Harald missing some big cymbals for my taste
Oh sure, i use bigger cymbals aswell and actually none like his. I just think those blend well and are complimentary to the music and that's tasty nonetheless.
The best till now from all thr jams. So freaking unbelievable good.
This things must to go to Spotify!!! Please!
Such a weather report vibe-great stuff
This is tasteful playing exemplified. Salute.
