I need somebody
I need somebody
I need somebody
I need somebody
I need somebody
Please don't leave me alone
I'm tired of being by myself
No, don't you leave me on this shelf
Please don't leave me alone
Help me find my dancin' shoes
Oh help me heal these black and blues
I live just down the way
You wont have to stay
Just small talk and Jasmine tea
Spend some time with me
Here just watchin' the rain
Take a moment and give me sweet
Lovin' company
You say you know what I mean
Tired of keepin' house for one
No, solo dancin' ain't no fun
If you know what I mean
Cant you come and help me through
Oh I would do the same for you
I live just down the way
We wont have to stay
Sweet dreams in town tonight
Lets go feel the light
Leave those blues in the rain
Take a moment and give me
Some sweet lovin' company
Listen to me don't you see what
I mean
Come on baby, lets do the booty green
This is the way to forget those bad dreams
Oh, don't you feel more like yourself
So good to be down off the shelf
We finally found our dancin shoes
Guess we beat these black and blues
I need somebody
I need somebody
I need somebody
Guess we beat those black and blues
I cant believe how many of us are here cause of a Trombone masterclass solo 🔥

Same 🥰🥰🥰
Same LMAO
Me too 😅
who would've thought this would make a absolute badass marching band hit
Exactly
happy to find this comment here...i have been down this rabbit hole for a few days now...
For real
RIGHT!!!
maybe bands with horrible intonation let the trombone section go nuts on the synth parts in the verse
When everyone wanted to hear the original song cause of Will and that trombone 🤍🤍
Here because of the trombone solo 😊.
Trombone solo brought me here #2024 💗
Its 2024 and trombone solo got me here
Haha same!😂
Me too
@@dannytheproducer9750 me too, ain't that funny 😅😅
Me too!!
🙋🏾♀️ me too
Seems like that trombone solo has everyone running over to see how bad he murdered the original. He killed 5x over!!!
Ok, hear me out. We transpose this song into a trombone arrangement, find our best soloist and unleash it during a football game.
Right! Like the thought process behind that 🤯
Already happened with william bilal
@@6avk228 it was a joke bro😭
@@markiliar7652 dude i was up damn near 24 hours when i commented let me slide by😅
@@6avk228 your good😭
It’s 2024 & that trombone brought me here ❤
me 2. it's 2026 here lol
Same
Same 😂😂😂
I think Wil Bilal’s solo will go viral every year and new ppl will come back here in search of the original
Only a true visionary would hear this and see its potential for a trombone solo 🔥
Not really it sounds like the trim one in the song. Jus have to have some appreciation.
@crookedstraightmedia4140 nah he's right. I don't even hear the bone from this song. That arrangement for the trombone is NUTS
Like really is 2 different songs like at the beginning like 4 seconds .. the band version who ever came up with that is like .. idk how to explain it but this Al song seems like in a major scale and the trombone one is a minor scale with a lot more black and blues, kills it
Like this song is okay but they only share like 3 seconds all else I feel is so much different I truly believe it's probably something like that major to minor scale thing
I didn’t realize how many of us here are after that trombone 😂😂🥂💯💯
I don't think anyone genuinely knew this song all them comments was cap especially you g folks how tf they know about this song... Was it used in a anime or something 😂
😂❤
Right that's y I'm here
Trombone version blows this version out of the water, and this version is spectacular.
Truly talent.
Man ain't no way this is the same song as that Bomb Ass Trumbone Solo... William Bilel had that thing singing n crying. Damn they need make a 2024 version of this song. ❤🔥💯🎶🎶
Who would have known that this song would get revitalised by William Bilal and Benedict University. Big ups to the marching band for covering this classic.
Thanks for sharing the comment. Been trying to figure out which band played this song to perfection.
That trombone solo brought me here from South Africa 🇿🇦
William Bilal brought me here. UNREAL!!!!
Hear me out Mister Al, I just didn’t get enough soul out of this. You’re great but I know a guy that would absolutely tie this song together with a trombone solo.
STRONGLY AGREE!!! Tbh, I was surprised that THIS song was the source of Wil’s SLAUGHTERHOUSE PERFORMANCE!!! He took this nugget and made it into a WHOLE DAMN GRAND CANYON OF SOULFULNESS … basically it’s ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.. hopefully Al will find a way to thank him for that hehe ✌🏾🙏🏾
Who’s here after the trombone solo 😁
Yup that’s me you’re probably wondering how I got here 😊😂
How come a trombone cover is better than the all original song? YES I SAID IT
I’m so happy he made this song. Thanks to him we have amazing marching band renditions!!!!
Exactly!!!!
Is it a popular among marching bands.?... just saw an an amazing solo from an American Football game on the gram
That high school boy PLAYED the mess out of this! I like his solo version better! I had chills
He was in college. Benedict college
Ol boy did the song better 🔥✊🏾
That's called The Florence Syndrome
First time he played it was in high school
@@antwan32ful no he was in highschool
Here because of William Bilal!!
That young man William bilal murdered this song. On a trombone.. and I’ve been trying to find the real song.. I’ll listen to the trombonist play this over and over
That trombone solo gives you goosebumps
so we all came for that smooth ass trombone?
As many times as I played this song in my high school and college marching bands, this my first time ever hearing this 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Right?!!! Lol
Please don't admit that. He's a legend. You may wanna go back and check out more of his stuff
@@nocreativename 🤣🤣 same thing with S.O.S. Had no idea it was an actual song until a few years ago🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Same here!!🤷🏾♂️😂
Exactly! Junior high and high school for me.
I wonder who listened to this and said,”That’s it‼️That’s the song that every HBCU & Highschool will perform in their marching bands❗️” Cause we all played the mess out of this. I never heard the original until today 🤣. Now I want to find the originals to all the ones we performed
Southern university marching band
May be is more important what the artist playing the song feels about it. May be the trombonist has a core memory with it
Wil Bilal’s magic and absolute POWER PERFECTION brought me here …. 😊👏🏾👏🏾
RIP to an awesome musician
The trombone solo was better but, THIS FOR SURE SLAPS!
That young man played the hell out that trombone!
AbsoDERNlutely! 🙆🏾♀️👍🏾😁🙂🙃
GUILTY! That brother brought something else outta this classic!
Been listening to this for over 30 plus years.
All marching bands have this tune in their book yearly.
I’m from South Africa and I just came here after listening to that brother on IG , played it 20x 🥺😭
Same here homegirl, I'm from Mpumalanga...can we all find a corner and just gather here for this classic.
Here for the Trumbone Solo 2024
Im here because of the trombone solo. Always love hearing the original version and then hearing what it inspired. 😊
Unfortunately I dont hear it🤦🏾♀️
When I was a kid I thought that Al Jarreau looked like a really nice singing weather man...
😂
I just got here from watching the matching band video. The best kinda rabbit hole, I must say.
Only our old school coaches knew this song and decided it was gonna be the ultimate HBCU band perfomance.
frfr how he find this song?
Shout out to William for playing this on a trombone 🔥🔥🔥
I ❤ that the internet bas helped so many people get introduced to you Al Jarreau. Your music was on repeat in my house growing up. I thank my mom to introducing me to you and Will Bilal for putting his stank on this song.
Black and blues has been played since this song has come out back in the day by Black high school bands and HBCUs. It is nit new to us. William Bilal has done the best job with it since back in the day. He and his band members can play anything❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Every marching band in the world has this legend to thank!!!!!👍🏽
Not all...Only the Few and the Proud of the lower spectrum inner-city high schools and HBCUs that had well grounded band directors/programs.
Long Live Jackson State University and THE Sonic Boom of the South!!!
Jackson native.
THEE I LOVE
Got to here after seeing a post about a young man that passed in my hometown. While going through his facebook page to learn about him, I saw he had share William Bilal at BC. Thank you Nate and my you rest in peace.
Al's music is the epitome of "feel good music." It isn't overbearing, it isn't excessive, it's just right.
Trombone solo brought me here as well
Just heard the trombone solo 😅
That trombone player made this song his own.. I say he needs to bring this song back to life. I’ll write the song remake just saying☝️play that bone boy!!!
I love Jazz and played 1st chair Trumpet in High School. So, when I say this, Trombone solo got me 😮❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How did that kids trombone solo rendition make you feel, Al? You're music inspired some extremely talented kids to run with it. That beautiful rendition is still floating around social media years later.
Sadly Al passed away while ago
I am! He played the heck out of that trombone!
He made the instrument sang
Finally I been trying to find this song since the first time I've heard it, just didn't know who sang it, trombone dude killed it
I need everyone to know that this wonderful smooth jazz artist came from my hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
That trombone video brought me here today 🙌🏼🎈
Al Jarreau will always be remembered as one of the Top Music Sonic LA Sound era. Unique, special, original, full of groove and playing. Bless your soul man. Today’s music has not a fraction of what happened in the 80’s.
> Today’s music has not a fraction of what happened in the 80’s
This is so shamelessly wrong!
@@arsinclair I was hoping for this comment, thank you! We just gotta open our eyes, there's so much undiscovered, surprisingly beautiful music out there
it has more than a fraction
u just listening the wrong music my man
@@arsinclair then tell us who we should be listening to ???? but I have to say whatever it is it wont be a fraction of what we had in the 80's lol
@@masmas6463 if you are sure, then there's no need for me to tell you 🙂Peace.
The band brought us here
Will Bilal got us rediscovering Al Jarreau ✊🏾
Trombone solo brought me here as well ❤
I remember my trombone section in high school (1999-2003) playing this but this is the very first time I heard the original. I went searching for it because of Wil Bilal’s masterful transposition!!!!
Will Bilal got me here!!!
From the trombone 🔥🔥
Ima be very honest, i thought the trumbone solo was a gospel song it sounded so sweet and fed you like something straight from God, that man is very talented
Trombone brought me ❤
Came here from seeing BC's Black and Blues trombone battle, absolutely amazing and groovy song compared to the marching renditions!
I heard him play that trombone and had to lurk ❤️❤️❤️
Trombone solo got me here!
I can't be the only one mad that this song doesn't sound like trombone solo? 😭🤣🤣he still a legend tho
I don't hear it at all lol
SAME-SAME‼️ 🙊🥰🫰🏾🫰🏾🫰🏾✨✨✨
I was too busy listening to Al waiting for HIS soulfulness to … speak up but that was a no go so I played it again listenin to the instruments then I heard a tingle. The HBCU’s are WIZARDS to turn thisss into THAT 🎊 🎉‼️🫰🏾🫰🏾🫰🏾
Dope track! The trombone solo brought me here ❤️ I might be reaching, but this song sounds strinkingly similar to Michael Jackson's "Leave Me Alone." I thought maybe Quincy Jones was the producer of both, but not the case. Maybe it's just me
Not really...leave me alone is a little more upbeat. Had more pop and funk, verses this having more of a blues and jazz feel to it
Quincy did make some unbelievable statements. In one of the interviews I recall him saying "Notes don't lie."
Does sound similar to Mike👍🏽
I can hear that…and a few other songs from that hook,too. 😊
You're not reaching, I heard it too. I thought of Leave me alone once I heard it, and this is my first time hearing this song. Good catch.
From William Bilal to this masterpiece, no surprises.
That trombone solo of that Fairfield high school young man landed me here....loving the journey so far❤🎉
The 70’s and 80’s gave marching bands their music. Keep the funk alive💯
Sure did. Jackson State University paid them the highest honors in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
Im here after the solo.😊
Definitely here after the video ❤
That solo got me walking from South Africa to the States barefoot😢❤❤❤
Did not know Al was such fire.........
Those sublime guitar parts by none other than Jay Graydon still manages to induce goose bumps even after all these years. Thank you Mr. Graydon, for the impeccable and timeless production.
Yep . Bilal brung me! I been digging AL Jereau
That trombone though
Trombone solo brought me here #2024

This whole album was my go to in high school; I even studied for my SATs to it!
These were the times man 😮💨
Trombone Gang
The difference in tone between this and when played by a band is insane wow. This song rocks
Had to come hear the original.
Definitely miss Al Jarreau. Important part of the broad landscape of '80s music.

I'm here for the trombone solo❤
Totally Awesome 💯
How could precious gems like this not be played anymore.
No sex, drugs,
That trombone solo sent me right here
AL you put words to that trombone solo… you’re amazing!! (🤩 just kidding)
Trombone solo got me here
I aint know about this song till william bilal re did this with his trombone... Smh
That brass is KILLING ME❤🎉 Al Jarreau is so very missed 💔🫶🙏
Just had to hear the original because baaaabyyyyyyy that trombone solo was 🔥
Absolutely no trombone solo and have no knowledge of marching bands using this but, a group of first call musicians including the incredible machine Jeffrey Porcaro, Abraham Laboriel Sr and Jerry Hey's horn section with Jarreau laying down a great groove on a great album.
