- Richard Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. The rarest video from a legendary Wieland Wagners production - Bayreuth 1963 (3. Akt, Schusterstube, 2. Bild)
Hans Sachs - Josef Greindl
Walther von Stolzing - Wolfgang Windgassen
Regie - Wieland Wagner
Dirigent - Thomas Schippers
One can see how they all are a Team and really are there to serve The Master Composer and his creation and how they don't try to be "edgy" or offer a "different" interpretation or steal the show. They believe this Opera, they're so sincere, I'm in tears...
…Zwei Meistersinger, wie sich heute keine finden. Mi piace moltissimo
Superb. Though my favourite "Meistersinger" is Bayreuth 1960 conducted by Knapperstbusch ( the best Eva is and always be Elisabeth Grümmer ). Seeing Windgassen... a dream come true.
Exquisite Windgassen.
The surprise of Josef Greindl's Sachs! No wonder Wieland considered him the king of Wagner basses.
Hahaha, I like far better Gottlob Frick and Ludwig Weber but... Wieland will be Wieland.
Minimal acting, but in a very concious way, great personalities!! Same question: Will this video ever be published?
Superb
Wolfgang Windgassen
I agree
Indeed-and the wonder of it . My favourite performance of M/S is the Bayreuth 1961 conducted by Josef Krips. We simply do not performances, productions, and singers and conductors like this any more.
Except that part of the 61 recording is spliced in from 1957
CE QUE JE REMARQUE EN 1ER LIEU EST QUELA PRONONCIATION DE L4ALLEMAND ESTB REMARQUABLE
true. Wieland Wagner worked a lot on the declamation of R. Wagner's lyrics. Musikdrama.
I'm afraid this will never be released on DVD :-(
what's DVD?
I don't think that this comes from a full performance. I think they only filmed some excerpts for a TV special about that year's Bayreuth. I remember reading about it some time ago. Sorry for answering only 11 years later 😅😂😊
But why do you call it Walthers Traumlied? It's Walthers 'Preislied', isn't it?
Stolzing tells Sachs his dream of the night before and he writes it down. It's the "first version" of the Preislied Stolzing will sing in the 3rd act and is traditionally called Traumlied.
U ever read the libretto?
Good old times of the Golden Era of Opera. With what we have nowadays, it's not surprising that opera is dead. Now we have AWFUL singers with very tiny voices that are always HUGELY AMPLIFIED, crazy conductors that think they're Divas and AWFUL staging.
MaX Lorenz is the only there is better than W.W.
I don 't think so. To me nobody is better than Windgassen. Maybe Lorenz is second ( and then, Rosvaenge, Suthaus and Anders ). The rest is silence.
@@brunegilda2453 Beczala should sing this role. I'll try to convince him.
@@brunegilda2453 You should try and listen to the superb Ben Heppner or-going way back to Lauritz Melchior.
You have really no idea what it means to sing Wagner in the right way. Too bad...just ridiculous !!! I'm sure, your favourite tenor to sing Stolzing must be Klaus Florian Vogt.
