- Wasn't super sure if there would be any interest in this but figured I was going to watch the videos regardless so I might as well record myself. Really cool way to introduce a roster. Enjoy my attempts at pronouncing player names and remember who is who. I'll be cheering on Nicho Hynes and the Blues in the Origin.
There is a small chance that I'll be doing a watch-party for game 1. I should know a day or two before. If not, we'll do one for game 2 and potentially game 3 hopefully.
Apologies again for the watermark. This past week every NRL (and AFL) video I've uploaded has been blocked when I don't put one. I'll keep trying without the watermark as we go along but it's looking like it may be here to stay.

State of Origin generally has the biggest tv ratings of the year.bigger than any show not just sports shows. It’s big!
Nothing beats State of Origin ,it's the greatest test usually relies on someone making mistakes to win ,its brutal fast paced combat .i found some old signs from State of Origin qld game 2 1992 when i got from the reserve bench old seating after the game.
You should definetly do a live stream for origin, origin games are usually the best games of the year
So basically when it comes to the five most popular sporting events in Australia each year, it's:
NRL and AFL Grand Finals
All three Men's State of Origin games.
Last year was the exception to the rule when the Matilda's went on their amazing run at the Women's World Cup.
So basically State of Origin is massive in Oceania.
Only because the World Cup was hosted in Australia, if not no one would even know the girls. Not many Australians would watch the Matildas play in a different time zone

Queensland have picked a whole team of fast, super attacking players whereas New South Wales has picked a balanced team of 50/50 defence/attack. So 'possession' is going to be crucial in the game. If NSW get majority possession they should win by 6. If Qld keep possession NSW will be slaughtered by 20 points because no defence can stop 13 attackers.
So bear in mind that these are the best players picked in their relative positions for both States (apart from a lot who are out injured of course). So not every player picked will be fast and flashy like Reece Walsh. Some will be big power players with ball skills (like Payne Haas), some will just be just hard toilers (like Cotter, Carrigan, and McGuiness), and some will organise and direct the side like Hynes. It's what brings team balance. All have specific roles.
The intensity of these games is like no other. Hope you get to watch it mate.
Enjoy your first origin bro, it's a shame there is key injuries to both sides halves that usually isn't the case but nevertheless origin is a regular club game on steriods, you will see the noticeable difference in the speed and physicality of the game.
Quick tip on pronouncing some of the Pacific Islander boys' surnames - the 'g' as written is often more of an 'ng' sound.

When a team wins all 3 games, it's generally called a whitewash or cleansweep
Eamonn if you can watch an Origin live! It's nothing like a normal game. It's NRL on steroids basically! Faster, harder and everything is on the line. The hate between New South Wales and Queensland is huge. highlight reels do not do it justice.

I don't know if you've watched the Queensland coaches highlights before, but he is arguably the greatest of all time, and definitely the best fullback oat. He retired in 2018 and is already the maroons coach, 100% win rate as a coach so far.
Super stoked Teddy is back in the squad. It was a bit disrespectful dropping your captain when he did nothing wrong. I do feel for Edwards as he does deserve a shot but not at the expense of the captain. Never would have happened with the maroons team and heck we had Paul Gallen during the 8 miserable losses to QLD. I'm all for switching up the team and but you shouldn't drop your captain unless form dictates otherwise. Go the Blues 💙🩵💙🩵💙🩵
These teams are super close and have been for the last three years. NSW now has a much better coach.
The big point of difference is Reece Walsh; NSW doesn't have a player of that calibre listed.

Nrl has 13 players on the field not 15!. 14-17 is the bench. The 18th, 19th, and 20th men are back ups.

Maroons are always dangerous no matter who they pick, they play the non favourite card every year even when they are favourites. They call it mind games, they want to be the underdogs every time every game. If NSW lose game 1 it’ll be over already as they play in Sydney. NSW can’t win in Brisbane. Last time they won in Brisbane was in the 90s once.

I've been watching a game on stream once a week but yeah it'll take awhile to learn the super indepth stuff. I think I have a surface level understanding I just don't know the players very well.
You will get better with your knowledge when you watch full games. Highlights don't show the whole picture and you miss the intricacies of a game.
