    What a great little house for them, even though they are food birds you want them to have a good and safe life. Have a blessed week, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦

    For sharing your beautiful chickens with us and how they’re working for you glad that you are enjoying the flavor of this meat. I have never tried to grow my own chickens, but at least you know what they’ve eaten and how they were raised when you do it yourself maybe get a few babies from your own chickens and you won’t have to buy any next year.

      The flavor defiantly does not compare to anything you can buy in the store. It also feels good to show our kids where food really comes from and how to take care of animals. An incubator may be in our future indeed :) -Cara

      I couldn't help but feel bad for it. I will say it was not the nicest bird though haha. I guess it had to be tough to be a survivor. It would push the other birds out of the way to get to food and once it got food it guarded it like a dog haha. -Cara

    it takes a little time but if you have bamboo poles and old CD's fishing line you can string them up and move them along with your chicken wire to keep flying predators away. But honestly, I'd switch to a flock of ducks and geese. You get eggs good for baking and you get predator protection and a xmas goose. all rolled into one.

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  9 місяців тому

      A guard goose is a great idea! We may get one in the future. Ducks and geese are great animals, we won't have a water source on the property for them yet though. Maybe one day we will build a pond and expand our flock of bird to include them. -Cara

    • @MistressOP
      @MistressOP 9 місяців тому

      you don't actually need tons of water sources. Just be on the lookout for thrown out kiddy pools and get "cup" style waters. instead of nipple size. @@bluebirdhomestead

    Nice to see the birds and their many purposes! Have you told us what the cost per pound after all is said and done? Chicks to Freezer!
    You guys are living the life👩‍🌾👍
    Don't let those chicks eat any of your 4 leaf Clover 🍀☘️🍀

      Ryan did a whole price breakdown video last year calculating the cost per pound. I am not sure what our costs would be this year yet. They would be cheaper though, because we bought all the equipment last year like the plucker etc that was factored into the cost. Also we were able to find another local source for feed that was cheaper. -Cara

    The meat birds have grown out nicely. And I bet being out on grass gives them better flavor to the meat. 💖
    The young layers and the guineas are also long good. Are you going to let the guineas free range once they are grown? 🤔💖😉

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  Рік тому

      Thanks Meg! Now that we have raised our own chickens and experienced the flavor we will never go back to store bought haha, it doesn't even compare.
      yes we do plan on free ranging the guinea fowl :) -Cara

    I have a Silky chicken with scissor beak I have trimmed it's beak several times sadly it's so much smaller than the other ones I had too separate it from the other chicken's so it would get more food I have one other Silkie with it 👍❤️♥️🇺🇸

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  Рік тому

      Ryan did put this one together in just a few days so another one would be easy enough to do. I guess we will have to see if the guineas want to roost in trees or come back to the coop once they are free ranging. -Cara
