Good Morning, Cara, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸 I watched completely even though I doubt I would ever raise chicks. But I love listening to your videos 👩🌾🐣👍 ❤Peggy❤
I am making a list I really want to raise chickens this year, even though I had a big cut in my pay that has affected me financially. I am trying to get family assistance for this venture. And praying, a lot! Good luck with your birds, you sound very prepared.💖💖💖
I am sorry Meg! I know here locally at the end of the season tractor supply typically sells leftover chicks at a large discount and you can often find brooder equipment on facebook market place used later in the summer. -Cara
We are!!! First time, soon to be, chicken momma hahaha. We got Polish bc well ( our hair matches ), Orpington, Delaware, Speckled Sussex, and Wyandotte. Can’t wait!!! Great video as always. Much appreciated. All knowledge is extremely helpful.
Great tips! We did chicks last year, it was a lot of fun but also a bit of work, lol. We just doing laying birds so this year we won't be doing chicks again. We have a rooster so I may look at hatching some next year :)
Very informative video Cara, I’m going to enjoy watching the process of caring for your meat birds. One day I will have some chicks 🐥 Thanks for sharing
They are so stinkin CUTE Cara! And I know they have already grown by now!!! This is an awesome video I could watch over and over again! Cant wait to see the progress of their growth! 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍
Awesome! I'll be following along! I'm not quite ready to raise chickens yet, but it's definitely in the cards! ☺ Didn't know that about the heat lamps, thanks for mentioning it! ♥
Hi Cara, this was a crash course in raising chicks for me. I didn’t know so much was involved because I’ve only ever had egg laying chickens before. Super interesting
Thanks My chick's are 5 weeks old what's the lowest temperature they can be in they are the white Orpington they don't have all there feathers. yet ♥️👍🗝️❤️
My book says 70-75 degrees F. One thing we do is just watch their behavior too that will tell you a lot. If they are all constantly huddled underneath the heat/light and not moving around the brooder they are probably too cold for example. -Cara :)
Thank you for sharing all of your tips! 🙌 I've never done the dip-the-beak trick but I love that! Ours always managed to find the water on their own somehow lol! But that is such a great idea! I'll be doing that from now on!
Oh, they are so cute! Very informative vlog, Cara! I was actually thinking of getting a few chicks to keep just for the organic eggs but I still have to convince my other half😂.
Did you ever try pelleted horse stall bedding? I used it the last several years raising chicks. I would never go back to pine shavings. It works really well. Great video, I miss my chickens so much so at least I get to enjoy yours:)
This is great info for anyone just getting started. Have a great week! -Cady
Thanks Cady!
Always love how you keep it concise great presentation!

How does the meat from your chickens compare to stuff you buy at the store?
Ohhh the stuff we raised last year was AMAZING it truly doesn’t even compare to the best organic option at the grocery store.
Chicks are so fun! I love how many more people are raising their own! We are constantly incubating eggs to raise our own. take care--Lacy 🤓
Yes they are Lacy, I would love to get an incubator one day and hatch our own :) -Cara
