Checked the gas cap and that was it. I had this same problem about 6-7 years ago. took the car to a local dealership, they fixed it and charged me $60.00.. I am so glad I bought this little device..it has already paid for itself....

PO455 code is usually not a gas cap although it can be. Mine in a 05 ford expedition is a evap sensor above the gas tank requiring the tank to be dropped. The sensor and wire cost $850 plus labor to drop tank, not such a simple fix. A smoke test will find the culprit or maybe not. Old cars are notorious for evap codes and they can be a bitch to find and fix
just put my extra fixd in hubby's truck with check engine light on, got P0455 code... Will let you know if what emission evap leak it is- he did say that he thinks the gas has been going out pretty fast in his truck..

Yes, misfire The idea is that the computer is assuming the system is sealed and acting properly. When it opens the Purge valve it's assuming a set amount of fuel vapors will be released into the engine. If those fuel vapors are not there, the engine misfires under that assumption the fuel mixture was proper. Assumption was my WORD A DAY CALENDAR word for this morning. ---------------------- Imagine an assembly line that makes PB&J. Bread 🍞, peanut butter, jelly, bread 🍞 BPBJB, BPBJB etc.... When they run out of jelly the machine still attempts an empty scoop not knowing the jelly is gone. It's a machine. You're left with PB sandwiches that have no jelly....aka a misfire

Can anyone tell me where the fumes go if there is a gross leak? Or better yet, how are they getting vented to the atmosphere? Trying to understand. If you're driving long distance and you get one of these leaks. Will it vent to the atmosphere for safety purposes?
Or it's one of the multitude of sensors is malfunctioning, and it's going to cost you a whole hell of a lot of money to find out which of the many system parts is/are malfunctioning. This is one crap generic error message.

Hi I have a question. I'm having a evap large leak p0455 on my 2007 Hyundai sonata 3.3L v6. I bought a new gas cap and code was still there so I paid for smoke test. They said canister vent valve was faulty and leaking. So I've replaced that and code came back 2 days later. I would think its maybe a line but they said they didn't see any bad hoses and it was only leaking from the vent valve. Any ideas or suggestions?

The check Engine light is ON. I plugged into the port and it's the gas cap that wasn't screwed on tight. Thank guys for FIXD!!

This is the first time I've had a good explanation on what the purge valve does. Which could also be the problem with a P0455 I'm coming to find out.
It is a never ending problem if you have a beetle. Replaced gas cap 4 times and the purge valve and it still gives the code every 2 to 3 weeks.

I replace the purge valve but to be on the safe side I will have a smoke test done.
