I have a 2015 Jeep compass. Bought it last year from the dealer. Low mileage. Mint condition. First time in over 20 years that I have purchased anything from a dealer. And today I just realized thanks to you, that I don’t have a dipstick. Because periodically the transmission shifts horribly, and I was just going to verify that the fluid level was correct. Greatly appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
I even use the twist-on cap that was in the filler hole. Drilling a hole in it to accept the red handle on the dipstick. With the rubber washer on the red part and super glue, it seals the hole. Then you have an air tight fitting for the dipstick.
I checked out the dipstick that I made. It is the correct length. The total length of the dipstick from top of fill hole to bottom is 39 inches. If I could I would send pictures.
After knowing the correct amount of fluid is in, can't you just put a universal dipstick in and cut it the proper length, rather than joining the two together?
Hey Mr. Clay I got the same dipstick That is on this video on my 07 Jeep commander now I push it in and it stops but Then I Apply A little bit Of Pressure and it goes Further In. am I going too far is it. On the first try where I just gently push it in stop but has no fluid reading at all what Then I apply applied the pressure it goes in and I get a reading but 80 to 90 on the Dipstick
I have a 2007 Jeep Commander 3.7 The issue I have is, no dipstick was included, only a twist on cap. I've bought the generic version dipstick and made my estimations for its length. The correct fill point I've seen videos should be a the 70 mark on the dipstick. The issue I have is, when inserting the dipstick it seems to bottom out but with alittle more pushing on it it goes in about another 2-3 inches. Which is the correct length? I've settled for 39 inches but don't know if it's correct? Filled to the 70 mark but seemed to have trans slipping still. Now at 90 mark, no slipping. How long is the dipstick that you have? And I understand that the 4.7 and 5.7 may be different? I also realize, if you overfill the trans, that can create issues also or ruin your trans.
@jaronwhite4320 I just have it like I explained, 39 inches for the dipstick and fill to the 90 mark....all good. Drilled a hole in the trans fill cap, fed cable through, glued cable top "handle" to trans cap, cut down and spliced the dipstick cable 39 inches. Someone had a "how to" on UA-cam. At least you'll have something to go with on the trans fill. Remember, try not to overfill. Like I say, I put fluid to the 70 mark at first, then drove for while and still noticed slipping then to 80 and settled on 90. That's 39 inches from top of fill tube...bottom of cap, where it meets the tube.
But a thermo gun. Point it at the transmission pan and correlate it with the graph that the dipstick sheet came with. 115F is around 40mm on the dipstick.
The KK transmission can be checked with the engine oil dip stick when the car is cold. Just poke it in until it hits the bottom of the pan and the oil level collerates to the engine level mark, just clean the stick really well between engine and tranny.
If the dealership finds out an owner tampered with the transmission dipstick the warranty is voided. My cousin found out the hard way, thankfully he was nearly out of warranty and about to sell the car.
Lol nothing this old has a warranty still... hasn't for years. And still not true, they can't void a warranty because you or a non dealership mechanic serviced the vehicle without providing your or your agent not only serviced it with unapproved parts/techniques, but those parts/techniques were directly at fault for the warranty claim in question. If your cousin allowed them to do that he is dumb and they knew it.
Ok so I have a 08 jeep grand cherokee laredo 3.7 and under the hood looks exactly like the one in this video. So should I do the exact same? Because the vehicle chart didn't have the right year. Or does that even matter?
Just start the vehicle up and wait till it gets up to operating temperature it will coincide with one another or you can look at it on live data with a scanner
I’m sorry I’m pretty sure I put that in the video that would be a pretty important thing to leave out….. I suppose it’s possible. And I wish I remembered
What is the right way? Does a person at home have the ability to do it the right way in their driveway? With next to nothing… is the right way going up and paying the steelership to do it for you? I’m assuming that’s the right way that you’re speaking about

Definitely going to do this to my WK, annoying as hell that they never came with a dipstick

Have a 2011 liberty and 2004 grand cherokee the trans dipstick from the 04 gc fitts perfect no modifications went to salvage yard and got on for 5$.
Your oil dip stick from the liberty works also
Jeep 3.7 just use the oil dip stick
It works fine
You want to be in the hash marks.

That’s kick ass hopefully my video was helpful

@@anguslean4058 Is that how they do it at the dealers?
How can I check the transmission fluid temperature on 08 jeep grand Cherokee 3.7l v6 so I can check my fluid level?
Just let it warm up to the needle is in the middle then you can check it you don’t have to know specifically if it’s 100% warm or not
But a thermo gun. Point it at the transmission pan and correlate it with the graph that the dipstick sheet came with. 115F is around 40mm on the dipstick.
How did you check the temperature of the engine?
With a scanner, but if you let it run 10 or 15 minutes, it’ll be fine
where do you add the transmission oil? can you add it from that whole?
Yes
How many quarts
Have a2020 jeep renegade how to check Tran fuild

Terrible engineering to not include a dipstick. It shouldn’t be this hard for the consumer to check their fluid levels.

Same as his. 75-80
That's so f*#ng crazy. An automatic transmission without dipstick..!!
I just seen a video on jeep liberty all you have to do is use your oil dipstick... Works same as oil 🛢️
Winner Winner !
Chicken Dinner !
Hey buddy I'm sorry to bother u but I'm wondering how much longer is the trans dip stick is it how much longer is it then the oil stick
Mine is about maybe 6 inches longer than the oil dipstick does that sound about right? I'm kinda small so I don't know what gittin bottoms like

But how do you actually measure the temperature without a scanner? Using the temperature gauge on the dash?

That’s actually pretty easy to rectify
Take the trans pan off, knock it out and then replace it .

electrical tape?? No f*n way, dude! This is asking for a problem. If you don't weld, have someone spot it in a few places.
