Quite simply the best interpretation of a song I have ever heard. Mr. John Martyn would have been very, very proud that his music could have influenced such an emotional take. This is what the great JM stood for, breaking down walls. RIP John.
Was absolutely delighted to see Paolo included on the John Martyn Tribute album. Could not think of many better performers to be on there. Love this interpretation of a JM classic.
Outstanding Paolo, have worshiped JM's musical ability since Beverley's days but this version really is excellent. Your talent base makes me a very proud Scot even tho' I've been in Africa 22 years.
I was hoping he'd do John's alternate version of the song, that he included in a later album: "No Little Boy". But really didn't expect that. Love how John changed it. ♥ Can't wait to hear you do more new and different songs, Paolo. I'll be here waiting in anticipation. ♪
john martyn is a god but let me tell you this jm would have been mega proud of this version , any true jm fan would tell you that when mr nutini sings he puts every sinew of emotion into every performance, watch him sing and see how he gets lost in his own world, something john martyn would forever do. im thinking he studied jms material and performances and to me hes got it bang on, well dun son the bigman would have approved, one world like it or not
So people are moaning that this isn't as good as John's? Well, of course it isn't...you can't touch upon perfection! But give Paolo a chance. He has put his own spin on it and adapted it and that's fine, it's what a cover should be. Hell not even the big man sang this the same way each time! I'm sure John would approve. Don't like it fine, but to say you don't like it because it ain't John is rather pointless. NOTHING CAN BE LIKE JOHN. He was a one off in one world ;)
Wonderful, I could listen to Nuttini sing the F***** phone book , like listening to Louis Prima meets Rod Stewart meets....Paulo Nuttini, seems like a clean cut sort of a dude too....unlike that bastard Martyn that popped his clog(singular , ha ha big J would have liked that) and broke our hearts Ian Mc geehan fan club member
Thanks for sharing this. Nice video. Would be cool if you'd come check out my channel as well, I just posted a new original song that you might like called 'Jack and Coke'. Appreciate it. -Brett
oh aye and why would you want to sound like someone, sound the same and cover it just the same, why, surely if you cover a song its to put your own style on it, a different take. fuck sake people if the bigman covered one of paolos songs you can be certain he wouldnt do it in his style, look what he done with portisheads glory box, he took it ,ripped it apart and made it his own, thats wot u do. so come on folk ease up, im away for another puff, c ya
Beautiful rendition. Love it.

I love the way he makes each cover his own.
John Martyn meets Bob Marley outside Glasgow Central on a cauld wet windy night in November, simply genius. Well done son.

I love Johns music, and i wouldnt rate this very highly, its not bad, but i wish he stayed truer to the original.
TrueBlueEG8 mate this is one of the best covers ever. This couldn’t be truer to the original. John Martin himself would have loved this to death!
love you brother, but this isn't how this song should be done
What a load of crap, totally ruined an absolute classic John Martyn song
Trevor Sanders You’re chatting absolute rubbish this is possibly the best John Martyn cover I’ve ever heard ever
