I agree with Ed, people never give as much credit to the AMG series that it has deserved. Its a significant upgrade goin from your normal Mercedes to an AMG, any car any year.
Honestly, Ed, you gotta think "Big Picture" next time. You live in the ATL with all the traffic and other variables that we won't go into on this forum. You have a young son along with another child in the wings, Congrats to the both of you on the joyous news by the way, so safety is a major consideration. Given Ms. Bolian's record for minor mishaps behind the wheel, the obvious choice for a daily driver is a Bradley M-1. Fun to drive, durable, goes anywhere, very little depreciation, maneuvers through traffic easier than you think when you engage the 50 caliber traffic clearance assist. Just add A/C and a couple of car-seats and you are good to go.
Congratulations on the sweet GL Ed and your bundle of joy coming next year. My wife and I are expecting our little 1 around March to early May. Great video keep up the good work champ!
Here's why the GL 63 is the best family hauler: 1) It's really practical 2) It's a sleeper 3) It has a ton of tech 4) That AMG V8 sounds amazing 5) You can have a ton of fun with it whenever you want to Arguably, if I were to have a 5 car garage, I would have an Audi S8, A GL 63 AMG, a Lamborghini Murcielago, a Ferrari GTC4Lusso and a Rolls - Royce Dawn.
you're going to fall head over heels in love with the GL class over time; I'm on my third. FYI getting 700+hp out of the 5.5 liter V8 is just an ECU reflash away....
Welcome to the family! My wife also said she would care less for the GL but after driving anything else, it's a huge difference. She describe her GL63 once as a big girl that can move, it gave me a good chuckle. What kind of octane do you get in GA? Those 600 numbers seem a little low. We get 93 octane and the tune is rated at 670 hp with 730 lb-ft.
Excellent video! I was actually hoping to pull and Ed and get a 2011 ML63 as my slightly unreliable daily AMG without racking up depreciation. Also, I appreciate Sara Underwood being the model in the ad for the end of the video.
My father is absolutely in love with Amg SUV’s he first bought a 2013 ml 63 amg after that he bought a gl 63 which is the best car I think he’s owned then he bought a gls 63 amg that was his first used car that we found out a year later had previously fallen off a car transporter and been poorly fixed. Now he has a brand new glc 63 which is fast but doesn’t sound half as good as the previous cars. Congratulations on the new beast
Definitely a nice upgrade for your wife! I like Ed's thoughts of warranty. I'm the same way, have a nicer car (Audi S7) for similar price of newer domestic cars and play russian roulette with any issues that may come up. Worse case something does take a dump, it's a opportunity to learn how to work on German car so I consider it a win-win personally (minus spending money on parts).
Ha, great choice! I got a '12 C63 AMG last year (love that depreciation) and the first owner had paid a fair amount of money to extend the comprehensive factory warranty 7 years. Somehow it transferred through two owners to me. I had no idea this was an option, but it's been great and haven't even used the warranty yet. Keep adding AMGs to the garage!
Ed should write a book about car financing and cost of ownership. He has his eyes set on the end game before he even buys the car. Everyone in the VINwiki family would look forward to that!
Life of an ordinary people. I’m in the similar boat. Hey, I drove by the Lamborghini of Atlanta last week and the place is getting bigger and bigger. They put up a nice addition to their building.
CAR PROBLEMS!!!: I came to a complete stop the other night and felt a hard thud. When I went to go it would not budge. Only would go in reverse. Couple days later I can get it to move in drive but it periodically will "slip" where the RPMS climb but the car just isn't matching it. 2008 pontiac g6 gt 130,000 on it. No prior problems
Ed! You talk a lot about the financial aspects of cars, deprecation, how much it has cost you, etc. As someone who has owned more than their fair share of cars, do you keep tabs on all your expenses (service, maintenance, repairs, legal fees, insurance, etc.) in order to boil it down to how much it costs you per mile? IMHO, that would be far more relatable than stating you "lost" 18k on the Range Rover, without stating how many miles of fun you got in exchange. Thanks!
My mom and stepdad just bought the same Merc minus the AMG tuning. They had a black one up until a month ago but, since they live in Phoenix for 10 months out of the year, they decided to trade it in for a white one of the current model year. Now, I still prefer the black color of the prior one but, the one thing that I especially don't like about the new one is that now Mercedes has a turbocharged 6-cyl. engine instead of the glorious V8 of their previous model. I understand it's to cut back on emissions, but a turbocharged 6-cylinder just doesn't have the same character or grunt that a V8 Mercedes G-Class would have.
If there were only a 2003-2012 version... he's a Batmobile car, not a Countach guy. PD: Since Mr. Stallone was partial of the Jalpa, the Jalpa sould be the Rambo Lambo, should't it?
I had a really nice 1992 4 door GMC Jimmy and a line on a wrecked GMC Typhoon. Call me crazy, but the girl I was with at the time just helped me swap a transmission in my '87 T-Type in under an hour to make it to a burnout contest in Carlisle w/ somewhat bogus plates. Heck, we even raced a C6 'vette on the way and I would've easily went through the servitude of making that Jimmy/Ty monster family hauler happen if the drug epidemic did not hit our area. Life comes at you hard sometimes. Jobs and malls disappear, the house that you worked so hard to keep is broken because of exorbitant taxes, and the friends that you thought would be around forever just die a smaller death because of their military service and unexpected problems and habits afterwards. It's not all bad, but it takes a shrewd purveyor to wax poetic about the best of this timeline in American history. Different experiences are the point of stories. Spotted an abandoned looking R32 GT-R today doing some locksmith work, the backstory is pretty good. I originally thought it was a GTS-t with badges but then I noticed the Nissan+Brembo script on the brakes.
