Back in the 70s I had a 75 Dodge Colt, which the fuel pump went out and ended up leaking into the crankcase which ended up blowing the head gasket and after replacing that I put in a cover plate and installed an electric pump. To resolve the issue of too much pressure I put an inline fuel pressure regulator on it. That seemed to solve the problem. It worked for the 6-months I kept it before I sold it.
Tell Isaac the German aftermarket has the parts he needs. Brake drums, fuel pumps, differential seals/gaskets/bearings, probably synchro rings and more. The Kadett A sold really well in Germany and is a popular classic.
my wife and i have been putting off watching it because we've been long time fans of the guys, and have every single episode of TG memorized and play GT episodes repeatedly. it's kind of like we dont want to see that era come to an end.
I am Australian and I drive a Ford Fairmont AU1 Station Wagon from 1999. It is so easy to live with as long as you don't mind the fuel economy. As it is on dual fuel I use LPG on long trips which is rare now that I have retired. We always called them station wagons (or station sedans) as they got used to go to the railway station and then to the farm (station).
@@robertcox1835 yeah I had the choice of a Ford Territory or my wagon. It was tight but I finally went with wagon even though i would have preferred the Barra engine the Terry had.

I grew up watching TG since 2002 when i was a teenager (and Isaac strikes me as one, or early 20s) and the way you Richard interact with him is so lovely and inspiring and great on a teaching level, how to treat things and people. Great stuff, brings me the same level of joy as TG did way back when.
Very nice video Richard. I never had the opportunity to get a message trough (hard to do that when you were on telly) but just wanted to say that you and the other two have been in our lives for years now, and life was made better by it. Can’t think of a better compliment. I hope you enjoy your “retirement” trip in the simplest, most enjoyable way possible. Cheers
6:04 at only 1 psi needed on the fuel pressure just run a return line to the tank and put a T on the fuel line right before the carb. It allows most of the fuel pressure to return to the tank and you only get the residual pressure of the fuel freely moving through the line. I did it on my wife's Subaru GL when I swapped it to a Mikuni motorcycle carb and it works great for really low pressure systems.
Thanks Drivetribe, and Richard for still charring car stuff. What all C.H.M. fans are loonging for. I understand why you wanna do a journey in private, though it would be a blessing to see bits from that journey. Cheers

You can get parts for this including new brake drums and there are some conversions out there for disc brakes the car forums are great places to find information on these
exactly what i would do. more modern brakes, upgrade the suspension a bit so it's more controlled under adverse conditions, possibly come up with a more modern engine/trans combo that is easier to drive, more reliable, a LITTLE more power, and a lot more mileage, but then stop at that. keep the outward appearance as close to what we saw today, because it is absolutely adorable!

as much of a purist as i am , surely there must be modern parts that will fit it, this is the one to do the retro mods on if your going to be using it as a daily
umm you can get fuel pressure regulators and or you can rig up a return system for the fuel, another option for a fuel pump is a vacuum operated fuel pump from small engines. I'm assuming the needle and seat were checked/replaced in the carburetor.
a lot of those were still mechanical pumps driven off the timing or water pump drive on the front of the motor. considering the budget of those back in the day, it's probably one of those. a low pressure dead-head electric pump setup would probably be the easiest and most reliable way to go. 4-5psi is about all you'd need for the tiny carb that thing is running.
In 2002 I bought a 1976 model Opel Ascona B 1,9SR for 500 $€£ and did drive it for 2 years until I managed to destroy the steering by hitting a stone on a mountain road doing a bit of rally driving... Probably ditching the fuel pressure regulator and running the carburetor off a simple T in the fuel pipe loop will get the pressure sorted out. There's enough friction in the return line to make some pressure that can feed the carburetor. I haven't had to try it myself yet, but I've heard others that have, so it should work.

These videos amuse me. A 2000m trip is a big adventure. I live in Australia where some people travel that far on a shopping trip. Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration but you get the picture. I do live in a town where many do drive over 100k to work each day, ( 200 - 300 round trip). Not me, but friends regularly go 1000k with only fuel stops. There are farms where the homestead is 20k from the gate. I come from NZ where, much like England, towns/villages are typically 10 - 20k apart. Distance, like time, is in the mind.

Oh... Olivia! YES... A Race Car, What a thrill!!
Continue to do such contents please! Your voice never fail to calm my hectic day! Especially when it includes a car!
The Opal Kadet is what RIchard Hammond would look like as a car XD
This would be a perfect subject for a restomod. Leave the interior and exterior design completely original and beautiful, replace and modernize everything else.

Binged the smallest cog recently. Could listen to Richard all day long.
I love this. Keep on doing what' you're doing Richard!
Love it and looking forward to seeing your trip in your newest acquisition!
I love vintage cars but had my 9 year old grand scenic . It’s the last of its kind in that estate format & our electric car is on order I love Olivia , Oliver & the Model A estate
As I/we’re watching the last episode of The Grand Tour… great to see this.
I just can't watch the final grand tour. I have been watching top gear from the first episode in 2002 and the old ones before that from 1997. Thank you Jeremy, James and Richard!
This feels like old top gear in so many ways. Great to see Richard doing this sort of content
I have desired an Opel Cadett since the Botswana episode. Highly doubt it will ever happen. Love the fact that the content continues.
Richard the last episode of your workshop D-Day was magnificent. It sets you apart from all other car shows.
Go Hammond we all behind you
Outstanding new purchase. The estate version is my favorite of the three, despite my unwavering love of Oliver.
