I bought my Ontario SP-5 years ago for $55. It has been used for every task I needed including cutting galvanized steel duct. I wish I could
Afford a$300+ knife. If I had one I probably wouldn't abuse it like I have the Ontario. . I own a Cold street Master Hunter in Carbon V. Great knife. Much Respect for both companies.

Cold steels prices have been nuts lately.I loved them before GSM bought them.

I was just able to snag the Cold Steel 3V Laredo Bowie for $250 at Midway USA, but the Trailmaster is about $300 there, and Natchez is about the $400 mark. $300 Isn't to bad for the Trailmaster for a big slab of 3V, but still not exactly cheap.

Love what you did to that Ontario Bowie. I thought it was a Fallkniven Bowie just looking at the handle. Damn you do some great knife mods. 👍👍 Thanks

Yeah I agree with the other comment I was a huge fan of Cold Steel cuz I love a lot of their medieval stuff they produce at such a fair price and they're very well-made until they were bought out now their stuff going to become collectible I've taken my cold steel Viking axe and used it a couple of times and it's definitely worth the money

If I was tested steels I would have said it. But since I’m only testing chopping ability I didn’t see it as necessary. I have many full reviews on both knives. BUT the Ontario is 1075 and the cold steel is SK5.

Both o1 Trailmaster, and Ontario Sp5 are unavailable generally. Last issue of the Sp5 had a zytel, not leather washer handle as well.

That’s because the sp5 never came with a leather stacked handle

Nice comparison as that Ontario is priced right but you have a well modded knife there....Good stuff....

I have the rare SP49, SP51, RD9, BK9 and an older Cold Steel Recon Scout in (I think) Carbon V (from 2004 or 2005). The Recon Scout honestly gets hardly any use anymore. The saber grind SP51 is an extreme chopper and might be the best one I have. The RD9 is a great blade at 1/4" and 5160. I replaced the Becker BK9 with the RD9 because of those stupid skeletonized handles. Why Becker would do that is beyond me becfauseI have seen the BK9 break at that weak point. The RD9 is true full width, non-skeletonized handle tang. I haven't really used the rare SP49 and although not a 1/4" thick, it is a saber grind of 5160 with a big belly and stout tip! The more I look at it and handle it, it might be an excellent all around bowie blade that I have overlooked. I'll have to take it out and whack on it. There are surprisingly no reviews on the SP49. I would like to grab an SP5 at some point. Also, I never baton a blade as I see that as abuse and that is what an axe is for. Besides, there is kindling, small, medium and large pieces of wood all over the forest floor for campfire use so you don't even need to split wood. Great video showcasing these two and that SP5 mod looks awesome!

What steel was used for that Trail Master. It's certainly not a San Mai III!
Does the OKC still exist? I heard that they had gone belly up.

So, I can’t watch this without asking. How much would you be willing to take to mod my SP5 to the same configuration as yours? This is one of my favorite knife mods I’ve ever seen but I have no idea how to do this myself. I’d love to have someone do the same with mine.

Honestly I have no clue and not sure I can even reproduce it. Very time consuming
