    When I bought my 1st bike (ninja 250, 1999), I was working for a very experienced rider. He told me, "get the $375 helmet, not the &150 helmet. Get the leather with hard armor inserts at joints. Get the back hard armor." Arrai helmet. Triumph brand leather jacket and pants. $125 dollar boots. I had 3 accidents, never had an injury and still have all of the gear

    I had a high side literally under 2 minutes after leaving my house. I had Alpinestars Leather Jacket, Arai helmet, G Star Raw Jeans, Polo Alpine200 Mens Hiking Boots (more like Sneakers), and Gloves. The Jean's were torn off and skin taken with it, the metal on the boots were grinded to nothing, the toe area was one tread away from eating my toes. Even my underwear were torn off.
    We never anticipate these things happening to us, but it does. Its better to pay for the gear and not need it, than to need the gear or end up in the ER paying medical Bills....as an FYI, most insurance companies cover up to $3000-5000 in gear as part of your policy.
    Buy the gear and wear it. There's nothing cool about having scars or having to stay in the house all summer healing because you wanted to ride with a T-shirt and sneakers.

    You’re right about the helmet. I’ve been living in Vietnam for the past 9 years. We really don’t drive that fast here (thank God). I have been in 2 accidents wearing cheap helmets and it saved the skin on the top of my head once, but the second one I was wearing an open faced helmet and it moved up when I hit the road. Busted the top of my eye completely open. I also was wearing tennis shoes and when the other bike hit us it broke my big toe and foot from getting trapped between the motor and the front tire of the other bike. WEAR THE SAFETY GEAR.....

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever 4 роки тому +6

      @Seth Taylor - Shop at your local retail store then buy online? Think about that from the local shop's perspective. They pay rent, utilities, and lots of taxes. They pay the salaries of their sales staff and they invest a fortune in inventory for you to try on... so you can buy it online and save a few bucks. Not cool, dude.
      I buy online, but I'd never go to a local shop and take up their time, which is money to them because the salesperson is being paid, and then after their pre-sales assistance, buy from their online competitor. I guess it's better than shoplifting, but they're fairly similar. In either case, something of value was taken from a retail business.
      Gee, I wonder why there are fewer local shops with knowlegeable staff where we can shop and make an informed purchasing decision and we're now forced to buy riding gear sight unseen at Amazon?

    Another nice video on the info on gear. As far as Helmets go, people should think of them as a " custom fit" item. It wasn't until I went to buy my 3rd Helmet and met a salesman in a Harley dealership and he thoroughly explained the difference in brands and models, antyfog visors and if the padding is machine washable. After that experience I couldn't believe the previous salesman from other bike shops including other shops the bikes shops I walked into in search of my 3rd helmet. With the relaxed attitude about the gear thay have on their shelves. Every time I was told " Helmets are over there, come find me when you've found one you like". Any time you guys here this move on to the next shop. Until you find someone who will help you find the most comfortable, best fitting helmet you can afford.

    • @yeejay6396
      @yeejay6396 Рік тому +1

      I've been wondering about this for the longest time.
      I often just measure my body/head and go with a fit. The issue with this is that given the site/vendor/seller their fit is varied because sizing can be off by even a few cm's and screws up the sizing as a whole. Stuff like this makes me miss football days. The only reason why I buy from the web is pricing can vary greatly, but often times it quite literally comes at a cost. Some day soon I'll find a shop/dealership like you did, and much like my sports coaches hope that a sales rep fits me right and gives me advice. I want to ride for as long as I am able. Because owning and maintaining a 4 wheel vehicle all the time is a pain in the neck.

    Gotta say that integrated sun glasses should be way up on the list for city driving. It's a safety feature. It helps me SEE. Drive around a corner and the sun is now shining directly into my eyes? Sun glasses down. Drive into a tunnel? Sunglasses up. Seeing where I am going is the number 1 safety feature. If I ever happen to get into a crash directly on my forhead and the helmet provides less safety because they hollowed that part out to make room for sunglasses, well, that will suck. But I've already avoided several accidents thanks to my integrated sunglasses. They are also super nice on cold days when I have the visor open to combat fog. Seems to do a lot to keep my face warm (so that I leave the visor more open) and reduce fog. Again, helping me to SEE. And I will never again have to ride home at night with a tinted visor. This makes sense to me. Does it make sense to you? Why does literally no one talk about this? Am I missing something?

    Hot weather rider here. Australia. Make as much of your gear lighter colours if you can. In winter I can cover my protective jacket with wet weather gear. In summer I am at the mercy of the elements, days often hitting 100 Degrees FH. You can climate control your ride in winter by adding layers. In summer it is just warm bottles of water in your backpack that you need to drink from every two hours or die of dehydration.

      Normally I don't drink enough water, well that car taught me a lesson. I had to pull off the freeway because everything went bright. Partially low blood sugar and mostly dehydration. After that I bring water with me everywhere I go, even with my new to me car that has AC.

    Damn the most problem with gear is hell of the warm sunny days. Wearing even super light “air” equip, with literally the net all around, you still be sweeting as hell. So you can’t then go to the office after ride or go to the restaurant. You options begin to be very limited :( that sad.
    We need something like astronouts has, thermal underwear with little tubes of cold water all around the body to cool down. The full-leather all seasons will work.

    The best equipment consist of wearing fully armored racing leathers, complete with an air bag system, high armored motorcycle boots, armored gloves, and a SNELL certified FULL FACE helmet that’s never been in an accident and is still less than 5 years old. If you can afford all that, you should be wearing it.

    2:04 that's not true. There are plenty of waterproof leather solutions out there and the leather itself might bet soaked on non waterproof leather gear but it won't let the water through easily. It has to be pretty heavy rain to the point where even waterproof textile gear will start to soak up at places like the bottom of the jacket, sleeves and neck. 2:26 that is very true though, every time i get caught in hard rain my perforated leather gloves leave my hands a shade of purple

    I'm one of those squids who usually only wear a helmet. When it's in the 80s and 90s during summer, I cannot fathom wearing all that gear. It would be sweltering in stop and go traffic. I usually only wear jackets and gloves and boots when it starts getting cool/cold outside or if I'm planning to take a long journey via interstate highways. I'm that guy wearing an expensive Arai helmet with Tshirt, shorts, and sneakers. If I go down in a crash, I'll have only myself to blame.
