The Garage 56 car at the Circuit de la Sarthe for the 24hrs of Le Mans was an absolute gamechanger for the sport imo. Sure they were already evolving and shaking things up, but hearing about, let alone seeing a damn NASCAR coming all the way overseas to compete in arguably one of the most challenging motorsport competitions of all time was no joke. NASCAR just up and said "You thought shit was already wild? Hell no, we're just getting started."
And the fact the ACO absolutely welcomed that project and asked for the NASCAR-style pitstops with going in through the door and the jack in the Le Mans pitlane is what highlighted what Garage 56 should be as well. And to add to this, with Gis's win, we've got drivers like Brodie Kostecki, Will Brown and Cam Waters. In response to Trackhouse's Project 91, RFK have a Stage 60 program which brought in drivers in a similar way started with David Ragan at Daytona but properly starting with Cam Waters at Sonoma.
I know with this system it's all but a gamble, but one thing that really makes me mad in Nascar is how Childress never had any championships outside of his six with Dale.
Seeing that Roval finish highlight on UA-cam made me want to get back into NASCAR (after decades of being away). In general, I've appreciated the changes NASCAR has made, despite a few missteps...I LOVE the newfound variety of tracks! Keep up the great work, you're doing an awesome job with these videos, look forward to every one of em!
With increased competition and variety of tracks I'd love to see them ditch the playoff format and just go with a full season point accumulation to determine the champ again.
As a Chicagoan who was a NASCAR super fan from 3-8 years old before losing interest, that street race was reinvigorating. It made me really appreciate how fun NASCAR is, as someone who became an F1 snob in high school.
i grew up in a nascar house but lost interest over time... but in the past few months nascar has slowly been gaining my attention. I even went to a local short track a few weeks ago
NASCAR was my foot in the door to Motorsports. Fell in love with it a couple years before the COT Era and when racing got predictable, I took a break and complained “make NASCAR great again.” Well, low and behold! Great video, man!
I been getting back into NASCAR lately, I haven't watched sense 2007. And I've been impressed with the product they put out now. Despite being different than from what I was used too back then.
I recently started watching nascar again for the first time since I was a kid and it's been so much fun to watch! It's refreshing to see someone talk about nascar reinventing itself in a positive way after all the negativity on twitter
For someone who has only started watching and paying attention to NASCAR in 2020, I actually love the different style tracks, watching Christopher Bell win Bristol dirt and Shane Van Gisenberg win in Chicago and most of all are these Gen7 cars. NASCAR is different, but it looks like it's in good timing.
9:20 I’ve long toyed with doing separate nascar content and one of my first videos was the history of the ringer. Take the idea if you haven’t already and think it might do well. I gotta see someone who knows what they are doing making that in my lifetime haha
The Bristol dirt track was one of the coolest races I’ve seen on the NASCAR schedule in a while. Watching the drivers display their extreme pedal control as they slide around every corner was just the best.
I really got into NASCAR around 2016. Those first few years were rough. But, ever since they started changing the sport, I have not missed a single race. Parody is at an all time high, the racing is exciting, and the whole product itself is amazing. Is nice to see it start to change with the times
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video. It really highlighted why I still watch. The 2010’s was memorable no doubt, but it lacked growth and I was worried about the sport in the second half of the decade. What makes Nascar cool again is that they finally a general direction they want to take and I won’t agree with it all, but it really is cool being a fan right now seeing the sport change right in front of us
What people fail to realize about SVG (Shave Van Gisbergen) is not only does he excel in racing Heavy Racecars and Endurance Racing, He's also one of the greatest Wet Weather Drivers, EVER, PERIOD. So, the fact that Chicago was wet, and it's a city course/street circuit, it was like everything just lined up all at once. I think he knew it was a stage set up for him to succeed. And he didn't disappoint.
You wouldn't believe how the non-NASCAR EU crowd at Le Mans literally was rooting at the top of their lungs for the Chevy. It was a delight to witness. NASCAR is bound to follow what happened to F1 a few years back : rejuvenated interest. And that's all we're asking for.
Shane Van Gisbergen made me a supercar and an SVG fan with that win. I had just visited Australia and heard about suoercars, and it followed me home, he won
I saw a few races here and there in 2021, but 2022 is definitely the year I got hooked back into NASCAR. The sport still has flaws IMO but at this rate the good changes outweigh the bad and it's very good racing overall! Hell I even went to the Truck and Xfinity races at Pocono a few weeks ago! The first NASCAR race I attended in 18 years
I'm from Europe and started watching in 2017 (had seen a race here and there in the CoT era, but never really followed a season). I guess it was good timing!

But at the same time if feels good, how will NASCAR will look like for the next 5 years? I don't know but this is such a good year to be a Nascar fan!!
The best thing to happen to NASCAR was Brian France getting high off his ass and joy riding. There’s still a few things that should change but the sport is in a far healthier and more exciting state than it was in 2018
It was great to watch the Chicago street race. I was rooting for SVG and he maybe my new favorite driver. Can't believe I'm saying this, sure I don't like playoffs and stage racing, but NASCAR's health is looking better than when Brian France was in charge.
Seriously dope content bro! I’m a budding F1 fan and have never really been into NASCAR though I’ve attended 2 races (both good times). This video was a great overview of what nascar has been up to and I may have to catch the next road race!
"For the first time, NASCAR would be running a street race." Meanwhile, the sport raced a half-beach, half-street circuit at Daytona Beach way before the iconic 2.5 mile oval was ever built. But looks like everyone has forgotten about that.
Plus the Pinty's series are the Marquee event at the Grand Prix De Trois Rivieres, North America's oldest street circuit, and have run there since 2000.

Growing up friends and family always loved watching nascar. I'd keep an open mind and would occasionally try to watch but I'd always get bored. The introduction of stages, road courses, nascar on dirt, and the Chicago street race has slowly turned me into a fan over the last few years.
i fell off watching nascar after 2016, it was just so boring for me to watch. getting into other motorsports like f1 and indy encourage to go back and give it a chance and the breath of fresh air and allowed me to fall in love with the sport again. it’s got it’s flaws, but i can’t believe nascar fans are calling this era terrible, it’s so amazing to be able to witness
As someone who's always been a WRC/F1/WEC/SuperGT fan it was huge to actually see a NASCAR properly compete at Le Mans. They punched above their weight, sounded GREAT and truly impressed me with the track performance. Consider me intrigued if that's the direction NASCAR wants to go in because it gave me the tingles.
How many drivers have had wins taken away from them because of idiot moves from chase Briscoe? Bristol dirt(reddick), Coke 600(Larson), indy roval (Hamlin)
One thing I find interesting is I see a lot of fans who say the changes Nascar have made are terrible, but then turn around and say SRX is so great. They race in equal cars, on dirt, they do heat races, have a caution clock and even interview drivers during the race. Many of these same rules are the rules these fans hated in Nascar and we all know if they started interviewing drivers under green fans would lose their minds.
Im now 43 and a diehard Bill Elliott fan for life, watching the phoenix rebirth of the sport is interesting to watch, my son is now interested in motorsports, and he hated it 3 years ago. Keep it up
It's nice seeing an actual positive outlook on NASCAR, since so much of everything is just endlessly dumping on its flaws, from insiders and outsiders alike. Seems that even when we have an incredible race (like at Kansas this year), there's always a "yes but..." from a big group of people.
Great video man 👍. I'm new to the sport and I'm loving the new tracks and street races its more competitive and intense. Netflix should do a series on nascar like they did with F1, I feel in combination with your videos new fans will be drawn to the sport and it can only get better and better.
The next big thing I hope NASCAR does is get rid of the Playoffs and bring back a year-in points format. Maybe not the same exact Lapford Winston Cup Points Format, but one that actually acknowledges the best driver of the year; not just the last race.
Unfortunately that's not happening because 1) Year-end drama is no longer guaranteed, one of the many purposes of the Playoffs 2) The end-of-year viewership will nose dive hard compared to recent years 3) It keeps things exciting, at least to NASCAR and newer fans Now, don't get me wrong, I would love an outright merit based system, but the Networks, big brass and the fans have practically voted for this to be a reality, and it doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.
@@BladeBrigade7 I agree with all three points, but especially with the final paragraph. We come back to a season long points system, the first time someone does it like Kenseth in 2003 we will hear people b***hing. Beucase, to adapt the words of Carnac the Magnificent, the three qualifications to be a nascar fan for most is spit, scratch and complain. I would, however, put something for you to answer: would make the points a limited resource solve this? Like giving'em only to, say the top 15. I know on track battles would be mad.
I've never been a NASCAR fan. I've watched a few races and was even taken to one almost 20 years ago (That was actually a lot of fun!).. I didn't even search for this video... But, I watched it and it inspired me to look at when the next race is, so I can tune in... 3 hours from now. I'm going in. 😎
I LOVE this new direction NASCAR is taking. Just gotta iron out the safety issues, maybe get another short track and give North Wilkesboro a cup date, we’d be golden. Another idea is to have two race dates be “wild card” slots where the intermediate tracks could be rotated every year to keep the schedule even more fresh, and have fans vote on the track possibly to keep fans engaged. I’m 22 and grew up a NASCAR fan, fell out of love with it by the beginning of the Gen 6 car, and fell back into it hard in 2021. This is a new era and I’m all for it!
NASCAR did the thing they shouldve done years ago. Basically they went "Here's a car, morons. It's all the same across everyone. Learn to drive it, good luck"
In my ~10 years watching nascar these last 2 have been the ones that I have made sure I miss as few races as possible. Staying up late till the wee hours of my European Sunday nights.
17:32 this is the exact same thing that happened with me, after guys like dale jr, jimmie, and gordon retired I just slowly fell away from the sport. and somehow last year I found myself watching race highlights and eventually began watching races again and today i’m more invested in the sport than I ever have been
So much interest in NASCAR now from down under .. cannot wait to see SVG get a crack at the big show. Just have no idea what broadcast platforms it is shown on - we don’t get a lot of choice in NZ!
I hadn't followed Nascar really since the... 2000s? I ended up getting more into WEC, IMSA, and recently Indycar. But this last year or two of Nascar is more entertaining for me than it ever was before, really loving how the new cars and track variety making the races more interesting.
That Lemans car makes some of the most glorious engine noise that has ever been. Its performance in the race was really impressive until that gearbox shat itself. Nice to see them let the Garage 56 car back out after changing it. It was really interesting to hear about its cornering being better than its top end. Dirt tracks. Man that was wild. Maybe in a few years NASCAR will add in a time attack rally race just for the hell of it (I would love to see that.... be a throwback to the 60s :D) addendum: I'm not a NASCAR fan, not even really a fan of circuit racing. Yet I have to say in the past 5 years or so, they have been doing a great job at demolishing that "everything is an oval or triangle" feature (read: bug) NASCAR had for so long
Love this video. Perfectly encapsulates the energy on the grid right now. All of the changes have brought me back to the sport after about a decade of not caring outside of watching the 500 out of habit. The future is so bright!
This video was so good. I haven't watched a video about NASCAR like this in a while. And since I've only been watching NASCAR for more than a year now, it was nice for me to learn all this stuff
As a guy who fell out of Nascar because it was the snooze fest, I regret not watching the recent years, but I did watch the lemans 24hr and dammit it was something to behold, that v8 tore up the field
its not surprising to see SvG win so easily having watched him in v8 supercars, the skill gap would be enormous between NASCAR drivers and supercar drivers in terms of road racing
It's unfortunate that they ruined the best of the intermediate tracks and left Road America of all places for stupid street racing, but all the other schedule changes I've really liked. I've wanted more road courses for years and for them to at least try out dirt racing. If only they'd go back to full season points and end overtime completely imo (which I never really minded until the last few years), it would literally be perfect
honestly overtime at the road courses is the only thing i don't like, and with how competitive the field is now full season points would be entertaining
Street racing was kinda questionable to me. It kinda worked, but don't underestimate what stupid nonsense politics can do. There's good chance it may not return. Why not just sacrifice one of Richmond dates for Chicagoland. I'm also upset the fact Road America was removed from Cup schedule. With so many teams being consistant somehow, sure why not bring back the full season points.
@@chromediesel444 I have a question regarding the scheduling? Do you think that there are tracks that doesn't need two dates? I would put in Daytona, Dega, Darlington and probably Atlanta. There are other solid ones with two, but I feel this cuts the real power of the schedule
Your videos remind me a bit of JxmyHighroller but for NASCAR. Love how you incorporate statistics and timelines into your videos and I hope you keep up the great work!
17:50 what we also have is a huge pool of options and hopefully a willingness to embrace the change .... I like seeing 4-7 road courses.... Watkins and Sonoma just always felt out of place being the only two on a 36 race schedule. I like a street course....Chicago was cool.... let's do that once a year.... but let's find 3 or 4 cities to do it on a rotating basis so we don't get bored seeing the same one year in year out. I feel like there should be a dirt race every year... doesn't always have to be Bristol though.(maybe Eldora?) Speaking of Bristol, I like the tradition of 2 races. But in the evolution of the sport, it might be time to not go there twice EVERY year. We can still hold some of it and go there twice every 2 or 3 years though. Hey, we can honor tradition by giving that second Bristol date to a Rock or Wilkesboro in a rotation. And potentially, any other track not hosting an event (Kentucky and Chicagoland come to mind) can be shuffled in somewhere every couple years..... What I see, as a fan who has come back after 10 years away, is that there are a TON of options to put together schedules that are entertaining all year round. Because admittedly, as you point out, what pushed me away was boredom. The same thing every week. Every year. Add in the 550 package, and it was just stale to me. I'm excited to watch racing every week again.
This video is fantastic. Super informative, and positive in a sport often filled with negativity from the fanbase. I happened to get back into Nascar right around the start of the next gen and it has become my passion.
Came here after the race just ended at Michigan and I would agree on every part that current cars has produced better racing in just less than two years compared to the entirety of Gen 6. We have seen a lot of green flag racing with exciting finishes (just like today's race) as of late with the new cars. I hope NASCAR starts to consider dropping the stage cautions entirely in the next few years if not by 2024. Gotta say, thank you Brian France for being drunk the night after Chase Elliott's long awaited maiden win, your exit eventually turned NASCAR for the best. Also good content brother, just one video and you got me hooked.

With all this info laid out here in this video, I really do appreciate NASCAR for changing in different ways that might not be traditionally accepted. Stuff like the clash, Bristol dirt, Chicago, etc while not so popular, brings testing and change to the sport that allows NASCAR to figure out better ways to implement these tests to make the best racing product possible. I’ve been a fan since a kid and I stopped watching since Jeff Gordon retired but since 2020…. It really feels like NASCAR is finally on the come up.

When I became a fan at the 2019 Coca Cola 600, the changes are almost exclusively what I wanted after that season concluded. It's becoming not only better, but as a result the product is far easier to pitch to people and is getting further away from the stereotypes that have plagued the sport since Talladega Nights and Danica Patrick
NASCAR is having a renaissance, and I’m all for it. Haven’t paid attention as much since I was a kid
Bingo! That and quit throwing cautions for each stage. The stage points are fine, quit throwing cautions though.
Ngl, youve made me really want to check out some NASCAR. Love your passion and love that NASCAR is trying to break the stereotypes. -F1 fan
I been getting back into NASCAR lately, I haven't watched sense 2007. And I've been impressed with the product they put out now. Despite being different than from what I was used too back then.
Like you said it was just watching the races on repeat. The same teams and cars usually dominate. And it just made it a bore to watch.
They came back to North Wilkesboro. NASCAR is ending their decade of malaise and I'm excited for all the racing to come.
Perfect timing. I just got the random urge to watch an Elly productions video only to see that a new one was posted one minute ago.
I really got into NASCAR around 2016. Those first few years were rough. But, ever since they started changing the sport, I have not missed a single race. Parody is at an all time high, the racing is exciting, and the whole product itself is amazing. Is nice to see it start to change with the times
Parody is right 👍
Parity?
As a Supercars fan, the new form of NASCAR now has me interested.
Dude you have a great cross between slapshoes and emplemon in terms of style and it makes your videos so damn addicting
as someone who got into racing relatively recently I'm loving these new NASCAR races they're just straight up fun to watch
Shane Van Gisbergen made me a supercar and an SVG fan with that win. I had just visited Australia and heard about suoercars, and it followed me home, he won
Nascar has been kicking ass lately, and I say that as a person who watches highlight reels from every race series because there's no reason not to.
This has slowly become my favorite nascar channel. The production value is so on point, keep up the fantastic work.❤
I saw a few races here and there in 2021, but 2022 is definitely the year I got hooked back into NASCAR.
You’re rapidly becoming my favorite long form NASCAR creator, you are always incredibly well researched and you honestly remind me of Foolish Baseball in your unique style and incredibly detailed and well thought out points. Keep up the great work brother!
I've been watching NASCAR since I was 4 years old now, I'm 12 Seeing the sport at bowling over time. It doesn't feel real. But at the same time it feels great. We finally have new short tracks. We finally have a street course and we finally have a third track and we finally have on you super speedway. It doesn't feel real.
"For the first time, NASCAR would be running a street race."
Meanwhile, the sport raced a half-beach, half-street circuit at Daytona Beach way before the iconic 2.5 mile oval was ever built. But looks like everyone has forgotten about that.
There's a difference between road and street, the Daytona beach was half road not half steet.
Plus the Pinty's series are the Marquee event at the Grand Prix De Trois Rivieres, North America's oldest street circuit, and have run there since 2000.
because that was 70 years ago and most of us weren't alive then, don't see how that's relevant it was beach and road not a city street circuit
I mean, if you have watched it
Most likely chance you already on graveyard
@@presinald Exactly. Being completely ignorant of the past is a superpower for young people. You want to pretend everything that is a 'first' for you must be the first since you believe history started with your presence.
This is the first time I've seen a take on modern nascar of "if a car can run on it, we'll race on it" and honestly I'm here for it. That's a hell of a niche to carve out.
This next gen era is really making me proud to be a NASCAR fan
The racing is better (Mostly
The attendance is better
And overall NASCAR is on the up climb
Slowly but surely overtime NASCAR will become widely loved again like it once was
These changes have happened so quickly and so rapidly that it's really remarkable and something that is worthy of being commendable.
The simple thing that can be done is to embrace change instead of cling onto the past then you can get a view of what the future will be like
I seem to appreciate NASCAR more and more every day from what they do. You just gotta sit and wait for what's about to come.
Clicked because of the amazing thumbnail and stayed for the killer video. Good shit dude.
Growing up friends and family always loved watching nascar. I'd keep an open mind and would occasionally try to watch but I'd always get bored. The introduction of stages, road courses, nascar on dirt, and the Chicago street race has slowly turned me into a fan over the last few years.
Look, I watched the Chicago race to see what kind of damage they would do to my beloved city, and I left hooked on NASCAR
There’s definitely a NASCAR renaissance going on right now.
You are so criminally underrated it hurts
i fell off watching nascar after 2016, it was just so boring for me to watch. getting into other motorsports like f1 and indy encourage to go back and give it a chance and the breath of fresh air and allowed me to fall in love with the sport again. it’s got it’s flaws, but i can’t believe nascar fans are calling this era terrible, it’s so amazing to be able to witness
Really enjoyed this overview and commentary...subscribed!
Never been a fan of nascar but all these changes sound interesting
Great video man 👍. I'm new to the sport and I'm loving the new tracks and street races its more competitive and intense. Netflix should do a series on nascar like they did with F1, I feel in combination with your videos new fans will be drawn to the sport and it can only get better and better.
Might need to start watching NASCAR, love road racing and now they run everywhere, and not just 2 token roads.
The next big thing I hope NASCAR does is get rid of the Playoffs and bring back a year-in points format. Maybe not the same exact Lapford Winston Cup Points Format, but one that actually acknowledges the best driver of the year; not just the last race.
Unfortunately that's not happening because
1) Year-end drama is no longer guaranteed, one of the many purposes of the Playoffs
2) The end-of-year viewership will nose dive hard compared to recent years
3) It keeps things exciting, at least to NASCAR and newer fans
Now, don't get me wrong, I would love an outright merit based system, but the Networks, big brass and the fans have practically voted for this to be a reality, and it doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.
That "Slide Job" Caught me so off guard hahahaha! Subscribed!
13:09 bro lined that up so well😂
17:32 this is the exact same thing that happened with me, after guys like dale jr, jimmie, and gordon retired I just slowly fell away from the sport. and somehow last year I found myself watching race highlights and eventually began watching races again and today i’m more invested in the sport than I ever have been
So much interest in NASCAR now from down under .. cannot wait to see SVG get a crack at the big show.
Maybe in a few years NASCAR will add in a time attack rally race just for the hell of it (I would love to see that.... be a throwback to the 60s :D)
addendum: I'm not a NASCAR fan, not even really a fan of circuit racing.
And since I've only been watching NASCAR for more than a year now, it was nice for me to learn all this stuff
the thing thats gonna kill my heart is when nascar goes electric
18:36 "We may not see any records broken anytime soon" Uh about that lol
As a guy who fell out of Nascar because it was the snooze fest, I regret not watching the recent years, but I did watch the lemans 24hr and dammit it was something to behold, that v8 tore up the field
You are the only reason i watch Nascar, without you i had 0 intrest in that series
I’m very interested in watching now since watching this video and most of your videos on this channel. Looking forward to this season!
its not surprising to see SvG win so easily having watched him in v8 supercars, the skill gap would be enormous between NASCAR drivers and supercar drivers in terms of road racing
Fantastic video. Wonderful quality in production and your passion is evident.
This video is fantastic. Super informative, and positive in a sport often filled with negativity from the fanbase. I happened to get back into Nascar right around the start of the next gen and it has become my passion.
I was very lucky to become a fan in very late 2018/very early 2019.
You're too funny bro, love the content already. This got me excited for what's to come
Wow man. Amazing video. Im new and lovong NASCAR. Ty for this. Subbed and liked 👍
Hittin em with the Deep rock sound track.
Based
Came here after the race just ended at Michigan and I would agree on every part that current cars has produced better racing in just less than two years compared to the entirety of Gen 6.
Have been watching nascar since around 2018, was like lets try it out, and loved it :D i haven't missed a race since and the series has def become better over these years. and im from The Netherlands :D i watch many series but this is always one of them i look forward to, always sunday evening/night for me :)
in nascars defense the pocono double-header was supposed to exist pre-covid anyway. it was a schedule change implemented in the 2019 off-season
Gotta love a 0:33 a red bull on top of a podium that says ferrari
Always a good day when he posts
To be fair, the Le Mans car was way way more than the weekly Cup cars.
