    Again some great analysis. As a 78kg runner I tended to use the SB and now SB2 as a long run / easy run shoe, it just keeps my legs nice and protected without the Nimbus style squish. AP3 for longer races and TS10 for speed work/10k/5k races

    Agree that NB4 and SB could be a 2-shoe rotation. As a 4-hr marathoner the Superblast is the perfect race shoe for me. I don't have the strength to take advantage of the plate (tried the Endorphin Pro 3) so the SB is just right. Much gentler on the legs too, I could still run the day after a marathon.

    Completely agree on the Magic Speed 3 being the best tempo trainer. The combination of a race day upper with the full carbon plate in the FF Blast+ midsole is pure perfection. I am not a fan of the overhaul/direction of the Magic Speed 4 and will not be purchasing one. Luckily, I only have about 150 miles on my MS3 so plenty of life left. The MS3 is such an underrated shoe that gets overlooked by nearly every other reviewer. Thanks again for your continued quality content.

      The MS3 was near perfection...that upper and the fit were so SO good. I don't even like FFBlast+...but combined with that super stiff CF plate it worked. I will say the new Metaspeed Paris series has a similar (but much more dynamic) feel. Another reason the MS4 doesn't need to exist.

    My current line-up:
    Daily/Interval: Hyperspeed 3
    Long run/ long tempo: Superblast
    Racing: MetaSpeed Sky Paris (feels like a plated Superblast)
    The addition of the Hyperspeed really has made a huge difference in helping me run better. I crave that ground connectedness. It’s so light, flexible, and it has some snap to it coming from the simple FlyteFoam.
    Btw, this is a very good video.

    Having seen some of yopur videos, I have to say, that I really enjoy them.
    Honest in depth reviews, tests and experiance, very well put together, without fuss or bias, also how you present the shoes and facts + your calm voice are really nice.
    Not over the top and also not boring to fall asleep when tired.
    I rarely give this, but this is a well deserved subscription!
    The shoes: I just got home from a run in the rain with my Novablast 4 TR. No problem after all in the rain, on wet asphalt, also a trail through the woods with pretty steep incline and decline was covered: no problems after all.
    So, IF Novablast: get the TR version. Just the rubber profile is deeper. The few grams more you aren't able to notice. More grip and longevity you will!
    Do it also if it is just a road shoe for you - there is NO reason to get NB4 when you can get NB4 TR... maybe except you want one of those fancy coloiurs ;)
    Superblast I took a half size smaller than Novablast. maybe because I had too much room? The US 11,5 / EU 46 has 290 JPN written on it and the US 11 / EU 45 has 285mm JPN written on it (als all Asics runnig shoes have), and my own measurements say that my longer right foot is 284mm long.
    So, yes, I am really full at the fron in the Superblast(1), but it doen't feel like it is too small or that i destroy may toes / toenails.
    Also the fit is better (i have a very low instep, general a very low volume foot and heel, not more than the lower side of medium width feet, everything else is good and healthy, normal/higher arches, etc). I tend to use the lace loop on the Superblast, whereas on the NB4 TR (US 11,5 / EU 46 / 290mm) today (man I LOVE the laces of that one!) i did them normal and everything was good.
    For heavier runners like me, 90kg/180m/athletic but with like 10kg fat in addition, the Novablast 4 gets less bouncy after like an hour or so? So the foam doesn't decompress / returns energy like in the beginning. Maybe it starts to bottom out a bit? The cesond run in them, for me a logn run, 1h30 speed, it felt hard and bottomed out, but today, like the 4th run in them, WAY slower, with stops in between etc, 1:50h felt better than the 1:30 race pace then.
    I don't know... maybe it's just because my quads weren't that tired?
    Superblast: Just did 1 small practise run (like 5k+) in them and after testing shoes and running trail, I'l get back to them and see how my expensive purchase really performs in real life :)
    Superblast 2 just a minor update, so just run your SB1 until they are done or if the SB2 is available in a nice colour you want ;)

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому

      I appreciate the kind words and support. Thank you.
      Well written observations as well. I have never found a need for the TR version of the NB, the NB4 has a great outsole. However, I do find the SB2 outsole very similar to the TR versions Asics has offered prior. I'm wondering if they jsut won't make that the default for the NB5.
      Totally agree aboutt he NB4 and heavier runners. That is where the more structures and firmer foam in the Superblast comes in clutch. The two work together wonderfully.

    Another great video , love your in depth explanation and charts of what a shoe use is exactly for and where it sits in a rotation, with so many shoes on the market your videos are so helpful for us viewers when building a rotation .
    With other Chanel’s reviews I have experienced this shoe will do everything it’s the only shoe you’ll need and then you find out it does not .

Unless I missed it, one day I hope you can do a breakdown like this with Brooks; they fit me really well although I don't really like running in their typical trainers (Ghost, Glycerin, etc) since I prefer lighter shoes. I was surprised at how dull the Novablast 4 feels. It's a great recovery effort type shoe for me, but that's about it. The outsole on the NB is sketchy on anything other than dry pavement as well. I wouldn't consider it a daily trainer, at least not for me.

      @@brothershirt3156 I bought my pair of NB4 quite randomly after running Stockholm marathon this year in the so called supershoes Vaporfly3, making my heels burn so hard after 28K, having to walk stretches, but I told myself pain is temporarily, glory is forever, and finished in 3:40 despite sore heels and 27C Sunny weather.
      Anyway thereafter I googled best nonplated shoes, and the result was Novablast4 which I ran a rather hilly (600m⬆️) marathon in 19 days ago with no problems whatsoever in 3:28. @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому +2

      Good rotation and you have the three areas covered that I'd look for (per my chart). The SB2 will handle training AND racing, just fine. However....it depends on what your goal is for the marathon. if it's just completing it, go with the SB2. If you want to hit a time goal, under 4 hours, considering a carbon plated shoe. You'll appreciate the carbon in the final 1/4 of the race...

    • @Nyelands
      @Nyelands Місяць тому

      @@SagasuRunning In the last 1/4 you don't appreciate anything! But seriously I'm not sure a carbon plate is for everybody. If you're a slower runner and even slower in that last 1/4 of the race, the carbon plate can feel harsh.

      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому +1

      It can go both ways…. But the CF plate, in that last 1/4 can help to support the foot and roll you through your stride. Any little extra helps at that point. Especially if you are trying to reach a time goal.

      @@SagasuRunning interesting, i never really understood the MP argument as it varies for everyone. one's MP might be 4:45km while for someone else that's their easy pace.
      i'm a big fan of the AP3 for long runs and workouts that are usually at HM pace 3:41km - 10km pace 3:28km. I like a shoe that's propulsive/responsive. perhaps that's the SB2? sadly the NB4 doesn't do it for me, thinking the SL2 might be a good replacement. i know it's a bit off topic but would you say the SL2 has a similar snugness to the toebox as the NB4 does?

    • @SagasuRunning

      MP is relative. It’s more about the amount of force you are putting into the ground. It’s a yardstick but something we can all share as we all know what our own “MP” is.
      Compared to the AF3…. The SB2 is not propulsive. So you may be disappointed.

The NB4 is going to feel like softer and bouncier version of the GK30. The NT16 is a rolling shoe that will feel much more basic (firmer) and nimble.
      If your GK30 has some life left in it the ES4 will be your best bet. it needs to be paired with a none plated shoe.
      If your GK30 is on it's way out and you are replacing it, either the NB4 or NT16 is an option. The NB4 will be boucier and more stable. The NT16 will be more direct and faster overall, but could be a bit change in stability from what you have been running in.
      I hope this helps.

    Very interesting but these ASICS comparisons are frustrating for me as of the leading three in your comparison only the NB4 comes in my size (US 14) and it seems, from your experience, that the SB2 in the biggest US 13 would just be a bit short. I then think which other brand has 2 non plated shoes that visually look very similar, have sort of similar use cases but cost somewhat different. Can't really think of any. Also never having been able to try a Superblast am always a little puzzled why you would really need both the SB2 and the NB4. Is the NB4 really more cushioned than the SB2 despite having less stack or is it more that the NB4 just has a softer feel? I wonder how many runners have both and use both regularly - well any SB and any NB that is. After all, if I really want to go fast for parts of a long run, I would just normally reach for an actual marathon race shoe.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому +1

      Nike has the Pegasus 41 and Vomero 17, similar overlap in many ways.
      Adidas has the SL2 and Supernova Rise/Prima, also similar.
      Brooks has the Ghost and Hyperion...
      NB Rebel V4 and SC Pacer v2...
      They exist, sort of...but the Asics one is likely the most confusing to most.
      The NB4 isn't more cushioned than the SB2...it is softer, much softer.
      The Superblast is a shoe I think you'd really like and reach for often if you could fit in a pair. It IS a Super shoe and when you want to go fast on a long run it's a great option to have if you don't want to always go out in a paled shoe. Though, like you, I'd often prioritize time in my race shoe for those runs anyway...

      @@SagasuRunning umm thanks. The Superblast 2 must be relatively on the firmer side by modern day standards then as although the NB4 is "soft" per se never think of it as being overly so. I guess with those comparisons generally one shoe is not significantly more "super" like the ASICS paring. Oh and just hit 100 miles in my Peg 41s ! For some reason I just don't seem to reach for my Vomero 17 any more. Kind of feel it is a shoe that I sink into a bit too much.

      The SB is relatively firm for a modern shoe. It’s surprising it is so popular. It’s definitely not the current macro trend in running as far as how the foam feels under foot.
      I’m in a phase right now where I can’t get enough of the Peg41. I’m grabbing it for any run not a workout or something I need to run in for the channel. The forefoot feel and toe off is spectacular…. I’m at 75mi, but mostly because I have so much to run in for the channel at the moment.

    Thanks for the video this is excellent analysis. With the 2 or 3 shoe rotation, I’m a little concerned that they are all super cushioned, elevated shoes. Do you think it’s worth including a lower stack shoe and if so which would you recommend?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому

      Two notes: 1). I'm a HUGE advocate of lower stack shoes, but the rotation in this video is a marathon training (or road racing training) rotation, not a general daily running rotation. So a running looking to start racing or build a rotation to train for racing, the needs are a little different than general running. 2). It is why I included the Hyper Speed 4 in order to have a lower stack option to round everything out.

      Honestly, it really doesn’t anymore. With the rubberless outsole on the 26 Asics removed any real daily trainer use case for the shoe. It neither has the durability or versatility. The foam is secondary now to the Novablast 4 and every review basically says it there is no reason to choose it over the NB4…. Other than legacy.
      It was a very odd move for Asics. They gutted their legacy trainer…. For what? I love a rubberless outsole…. But not on a daily trainer…. The outsole would have made more sense on the Nimbus….it was a baffling design choice.
