For the 2026 World Cup they should choose only NFL stadiums with natural grass fields to host the matches (like Kansas City, Arizona, Las Vegas, Levi’s Stadium etc) that would solve this issue of putting patched grass on artificial turf which looks terrible and also falls apart. Bielsa is correct, look at the state of football, if they could, they would make the U.S. host everything, euro cup, African cup of nations, Asian cup, champions league, premier league, la liga, but they don’t because people would complain.
Organizers don’t care about the integrity of the sport, only money. In 2016 the excuse was because “100 years of Copa America,”, now it’s because “the U.S. is hosting the World Cup”, next is gonna be because “it’s fun to host it there”.

To my suprise, there were barely any outbreaks for that game compared to previous match-ups. US needs to take the same precautions and also mark which games and rivalries to look out for. The problems with the pitches stemmed from the fact that they laid all of this natural sod only days before matches rather than letting it settle and bed in for a couple weeks. Does the grass actually settle when it's placed on turf? I'm just curious because from my understanding the grass was laid on top of turf. i see no way for it to settle before the grass dies. I think they would need to remove the turf and then place the grass on soil for it to settle properly. At least that's what i think, maybe i'm wrong and the sod does settle in turf. I think another issue is the field is smaller. The copa america dimensions are equivalent to u-13 soccer fields. I'm not sure how they could fix that since they did that because some fields are just too small and can't be extended to fit the required dimensions.

Conmebol allowed the ticket sales to be run by the stadiums rather than centralizing it, which meant that the fluctuating ticket prices governed who sat where, not which country you were supporting. They, as well as the host city stadiums, are responsible for ensuring a policing and security plan that matches the type of seating arrangement and entrance/exit plan set up for that venue. The fact that both seemed under-prepared - not just here but also in other stadiums, including a colombia game I went to earlier in the tournament - shows that the lack of organization was there from the start, and everyone thought that barely any work needed to be put in once USA was selected a year and a half ago, since the 2016 tournament went relatively smoothly.

I agree with Bielsa. But people are attacking the US now because of one incident, that CONMEBOL could've avoided by not being greedy and reserving suites in the stadiums, which every major stadium in the US has, and put the team's families there, but they prefer to sell those seats to sponsors, businessman, and millionaires to make more money. Also, remember what happened in Wembley at the last EURO final? Thousands of people rushed through one of the gates to get into the match illegally, which got ugly and could've gotten worse. The semifinal between ENG v NED there was bar fights and fights around the stadium between English and Dutch fans. Argentina v Brazil in Brazil during qualifiers. Copa Libertadores, there's danger of melees virtually every match. Im not saying there is no blame on the security of th stadium, but CONMEBOL as organizers should breif these entities on the type of fan they gonna deal with, if the team's families are gonna be on the stands, let the authorities know they're there to keep them safe and so on. But like Burley said yesterday, the organizers always think money first, players last. Also on a side note. If I'm a father, why would I let my wife with my newborn child be on the stands around opposition fans? Why would I let my family with small children be there? Knowing how contentious and dangerous it gets in the stands in football matches, I dont know what went through the player's heads to let that happen.

@@appl2597 I agree with you about the pitches. I did say they don't share blame. CONMEBOL is the organizer. They could've done a better job at preparing for these problems, which are normal in South American stadiums during qualifiers. We haven't seen this during the Gold Cup and are held here every time. Nations League is held here every time, and it doesn't see any of this. Why do we see it now that CONMEBOL is organizing the event?

    • @aidenroqz
      @aidenroqz 24 дні тому

@@tyciol9543 Why is it only on the USA stadium owner's hands? CONMEBOL and the national teams provide the players with tickets for their families. I understand they want the families to be close to the players for support and to celebrate as soon as the game ends if they win, but this isn't common in the US games. The family of the players in the US sports are seated in suites, where they are separated naturally from fans and from harm or are seated in a "VIP" area where they aren't exposed to harm from common fans that could act a different way. I didn't say security shouldn't be held accountable, but CONMEBOL knows how contentious and dangerous it gets in football matches in South America. They should've at least told the security that they should provide extra safety for the families or place them in suites for safety. They thought that just because they're in the US, fans weren't gonna act like they do in South America. Sports fans in the US aren't separated like in Europe or the rest of the world because there isn't this "life and death" atmosphere or stakes to sports in the US. So fans here aren't on pins and needles and aren't prone to fighting because of a frustrating loss or a bad game. CONMEBOL should have told security, "Hey, these fans aren't your usual American fans. Things can get contentious. Make sure to have more security around the families or separate the fans." But they failed to do that. You can say that security failed, but CONMEBOL also failed to provide context and warn these stadium security on how dangerous football matches could get with passionate fans.

Maybe by Americans. In the rest of the world, the US isn't looked at as being that strong. The US can't even beat Panama on home soil. Canada looks stronger. In ELO rankings, the US is number 31, Canada 32 & Panama 38. In FIFA rankings, the US is ranked #11. There is no way the US is #11 in the world. Based on the FIFA rankings, yes, they are highly over rated.

Consider the possibility that USA 1994 got lucky.
Our best defense wasn’t stadium security… it was the expense of getting here and getting around.
With more sites for 2026, with potential complacency on the part of American authorities (which I’m darn sure contributed to these Copa issues), and really a lack of recognition from some people on Messi’s selling power, there’s a risk to 2026.
Also… the fan separation issue? A couple US cities have been sued because this denied access to larger groups of fans… and lost. This ought to be re-examined for 2026, but I suspect organizers here are really skittish about that.
Hopefully the complacency has diminished after this last week.

It frustrates me that CONMEBOL/CONCACAF have treated this tournament like a money making traveling circus in too many cities instead of a serious competition. Host cities should be actual host cities. Where the venue is under the control of the organizers weeks in advance. It’s a 16 team tourney you don’t even need that many host cities. Instead they went cheap and have run this the way CONCACAF runs the Gold Cup (which logistically sucks) and indeed a circus has resulted.

Bielsa is trying to save his players from getting lengthy suspensions. He still needs to take Uruguay to the World Cup, but if Nunez and others get a long ban, it may become difficult for them to qualify. He's deliberately putting all the blames on Conmebol and USA so that everyone points their finger at the organizer and the host, and leaves his players alone. Don't forget that Uruguayan players are the ones who started the fight in the middle of the pitch when the game was over, and it was all initiated by that classless Suarez.

At the end of the day, it was his players that started the brawl and drunk fans from both sides began fighting in the stands, whether some family members where in the vicinity of the brawl and felt threatened that still doesn't excuse his players from climbing up and start throwing punches. They're trying to play the victim card so they don't get punished much.

Firstly, the tournament clearly has had issues with quality of pitch and officiating. Partly a fair complaint - but I don't think the USSF selected the officials. Secondly, the hypocrisy of some of these South American coaches is bewildering - their stadiums require fully armed military personnel to maintain order. They all got their big payday so let's not pretend this tournament is anything else but a golden calf and cash payout for the participating Federations. Thirdly, notice the timing of the complaints - almost immediately following the team's loss and elimination - conveniently disingenuous.

That’s right! If it requires fully armed military then so be it. I rather have that than what happened in Colombia Uruguay game. Also, South Americans have different sectors assigned to each side, and don’t sell alcohol during the games. Even entrance doors are separated between sides. So, even with our “inferior infrastructure” we are more prepared than US for this game.

In 1994, there was no artificial grass like they use today in American Football so we can not point to that as evidence of success. The point being, there are not many well established grass field Stadiums anymore that can host a large crowd. I expect more of the same issues to occur in WC26 unless these American Football Stadiums switch over to grass turf for one season, but I don't even know if that is possible since the infrastructure is quite unique for the artificial field (i.e. no soil base).
