There are certain casual fans who think that Julian Alvarez leaving Manchester City for Atletico Madrid is a mistake and a downgrade in his career. As much as people like to talk about his trophy haul with the amount of trophies he’s accumulated at such a young age for club and country, at the age of 24, as I’ve said many times, he needs to always be on the field playing in his natural position because he is genuinely too good to be a backup striker and the player himself isn’t content with sitting on the bench. For the Argentina national team, he recently helped his country win the World Cup and the Copa America and whenever he plays for his country, they always use him in his proper position. It’s true that he played the most games out of any player on that team, but does anyone watch games without looking at stats to push an agenda, in a season where many top European teams were struggling with injuries which meant that they weren’t always playing their best team, but part players were playing a lot more than ever before and every time he was on the pitch; he was in a role that didn’t really suit him. What do people expect him to do when he isn’t going to start over a world class striker as he only plays when they have injuries, he’s benched in important games and has been used out of position. We all saw Cole Palmer’s ridiculous breakout season at Chelsea as despite leaving a proper team to join a dysfunctional team for his career he made the right choice and he wouldn’t be the player he is right now had he not left Manchester City 12 months ago. On Atletico Madrid, it kinda does seem like a downgrade because he’s playing on a team who in a season aren’t always guaranteed to win trophies, it’s a good move for both parties since they’re in need of a striker and it’s the right team for him to accumulate regular minutes as he’s going to at least be starting every game which is going to help him get better as a player since he’s in his prime. I don’t think he’s making a mistake in going to a team where he’ll be starting every week. Many people are thinking to themselves, “how will Manchester City cope without Julian Alvarez” as Erling Haaland won’t have an actual backup striker whenever he’s resting or has to miss games due to injuries. Similar to how they had to deal with the departures of Ilkay Gundogan Riyad Mahrez Raheem Sterling etc, Pep is going to find a way to work with what he has at his disposal as we know that he’s the type of manager who likes to experiment so that he can make things work. The obvious solution for Manchester City is to sign a backup striker, but in the transfer market, it’s so hard to find a striker who’s going to accept playing 2nd fiddle. Assuming they don’t sign a number 9, I think they’re going to be playing one of their attackers or midfielders as a center forward (false 9 role) (Phil Foden Bernardo Silva Kevin de Bruyne Savio Jeremy Doku) in games where Haaland doesn’t play and for anyone saying “why would he do that”, what do you expect them to do, they’ve done it before as their team has been capable of playing without a recognized striker. If they’re not going to buy anyone to replace Alvarez before the transfer window closes, this is how he’s going to approach his attack next season.
Go to arsenal! Not even a gunners fan but it would be such a good signing…pep is regretting Palmer loss I don’t think you can lose Alveraz w kdb & haaland injuries
@@juanchito00000 Okay. But would he absolutely be better than Havertz and Jesus? He wants to be guaranteed starter. Can you guarantee a striker of Alvarez level that he'll always start ahead of those competitions? All three of them could press, run, and pass the ball. I don't think Alvarez is going to be a 25 goal a season striker either. Unless been slightly more clinical, Jesus is actually better technically that Alvarez in every other aspect of the game. The only striker Arsenal would get now that will truly elevate their first eleven is Alexander ISAK. I wonder why nobody went for him even before Newcastle. I always ask myself what is ISAK weakness as a player? Can't find one. Even Halaand clearly has a weakness.
Don't forget that Diego Simeone is among the best coaches at producing or improving strikers to another level or even world class level. It is not just about minutes play but the most important thing is playing regularly as the main striker. Strikers are the most single-minded footballers so when you're being played on other positions other than striker, your goalscoring instinct and prowess will be affected in a great way.
I think Haaland will start getting restless towards the end of this season and will start dropping hints about testing new waters in Spain thru his agent. Alvarez should stick around for this season and see what develops as he could become the main man
I wanted him at Barca. He's starting 11 quality for perhaps every top team in Europe, and he can play across several positions. Atletico are making some serious moves and statement of intent with this one, and I agree it's the correct move for Julian to see if he's ready to reach another level.
City will have a problem without Alvarez because he was their utility attacker. Playing everywhere for Pep when kdb is injured or when Haaland is injured.
City could play the old style (pre Haaland), if it comes to that. We have much more dangerous players out wide now. Think Sane and Mahrez. Pep will have a plan for both situations
Julian already won everything so this wasnt about winning champions or english league with City, this was about being a starter because his overall performance has dropped a lot in the last year due to not playing enough. Also in a lot of those mentioned 54 games he subbed in the second half so he didnt play full minutes.
I said it a year or so back. Alvarez is too good not to start. He did not want to lift a cup once I remember and Edison had to pull him up and make him join in the celebrations. In that final I saw an unhappy player, because although he started some games, for the final Pep picked Haaland to start, people thought I was crazy when I pointed out that Alvarez was unhappy.
The number will not drop. Let's not pretend like Simione still plays that defensive haram ball. Its more attacking nowadays and with Alvarez it will be evem more. I can see him having 20 goals and 10 assist season.
With that 70-80m sale pep will surely bring atleast 1 more big signing before the transfer window closes because it has been a quite underwhelming transfer window so far
I think one thing people need to remember is Laurturo Martinez, he’s beeen scoring up and down Italy and had a defining moment in the Copa America, Alvarez can’t afford to be on the bench because come 2026 he’ll be benched too
Bingo. Alvarez first priority is Argentina, and he has to either compete with Martinez or be game-sharp enough to play alongside him. If both are fit, and with Messi and Di Maria gone, don't expect Argentina to rely on the same tactics and formation they have for the last decade. Argentina would be stupid not to go with Martinez and Alvarez on the pitch at the same time as strikers.
Well….. If this was truly Messi last tournament. Alvarez suits better to play along side Messi because he’s a workhorse. He covers ground and covers Messi inability to press.of Messi is gone and won’t be playing next World Cup. Lautaro can start with Alvarez up top. Both compliment each other just like Spain did with Olmo / Morata partnership.
We will be fine. Young mctee, young O'Riley these players need space to break through. We are going to flying wingers again, get the ball out wide and if they double up they are in even more trouble
If Athletico pay 75 million I will be amazed. Alvarez is going nowhere. They seem to be sayjng on here it is a done deal. If it is I would bet considers playing Oscar Bobb upfront. That guy can finish.
C'mon, lets be real. Alvarez may be missed yes, but a bigger loss is not getting a Rodri replacement. Rodri is more important to the team than Alvarez. They can get subs for up top, but its harder to get a sub on to replace Rodri.
These American sports talk shows are so highly produced they probably get told to make certain arguments so everyone is not just agreeing. This is a great transfer for both sides undeniable
I would love him to come to Real Madrid but it’s rare for the Argentinian footballers to play for the club especially when we’re occupied with lot of bunch of talents in our depth.
Madrid is literally Madrid because of an Argentinian. Look up who Di Stefano was and where Madrid were as club before he arrived and how they have been regarded since
YTou are missing some verry important details like Atlethico Madrid has the most argentinians in Europe and is a verry good team with an argentinian verry good coach. So he will be reunited with his argentinian colegues in a verry nited team. He will fit perfectly and be motivaded to play at his best for his team.
Alvarez will leave for where he can play, because now he has a taste for bigger game: the World Cup. Imagine Argentina having a sharp Alvarez alongside a patient Martinez, even without Messi. In front of that midfield, there aren't many sides who will hold them back.
Alvarez had the chance to prove that he can carry a team in this last Olympics and he failed miserably. A team like Athletico Madrid parks the bus a lot, so I really don't know what his point will be. City is going to be fine as long as Pep is the manager, even Rodri can leave and City will be fine
Julian is the start line of defense and a goal scorer. He allows your team to play on the front foot. City has no one to replace that effort and energy. Argentina knows this, Alt Madrid knows this and Pep knows this. Pep got trap in his words.
Why can't English pundits pronounce player names correctly. Julian Alavarez has been in the Premier League long enough for people to know how to pronounce his first name. But then again, Bruno Fernandes has been in the Premier League even longer, yet English commentators and pundits *STILL* don't know how to pronounce his last name correctly.
Alvarez didn't play the big games because he's not better than other players at the club. All the big games he played, he was pretty average and didn't look technically able to operate on the same wavelength as his team mate. He's only going to be undisputed striker in a team below Man City in ambition. Because even as a Chelsea fan, Alvarez would not be undisputed for us were he to sign. Play two bad games at a rich club and you'd be on the bench. So many options to choose from.

@@russellward4624 yup he barely scored any last season but people who don't watch him wouldn't know
@@BLESSED_1000 When did Haaland become the benchmark here ?? 😂😂 That tap in merchant who can't even control a ball? 😂
😂🤣
As an arsenal fan i would LOVE this signing
@@juanchito00000
Okay.
10:00 atetico Madrid having great window
Man City should buy Victor Roque from Barcelona
Imagine City put the whole Alvarez money and some change and test Newcastle for Alexander Isak. Now, that'll be a massive upgrade on Alvarez.
Liverpool should really try and get alvarez 75 barging in today's prices
Trade him for Félix
Overrated felix, not enough output..
If Atleti get a hold of Alvarez atleti are La Liga champions 🔥
I think Haaland will start getting restless towards the end of this season and will start dropping hints about testing new waters in Spain thru his agent. Alvarez should stick around for this season and see what develops as he could become the main man
Alvarez is ambitious as he should be. Its commendable.
I wanted him at Barca. He's starting 11 quality for perhaps every top team in Europe, and he can play across several positions. Atletico are making some serious moves and statement of intent with this one, and I agree it's the correct move for Julian to see if he's ready to reach another level.
Claudio Achievry is coming in. January.
mate you wanna try again with that last name spelling?
Why mario do not directly answer questions
City will have a problem without Alvarez because he was their utility attacker. Playing everywhere for Pep when kdb is injured or when Haaland is injured.
Mbappe triggered all these teams 😂😂people can't allow madrid to win everything again. I've never seen teams this aggressive until this move
😂😆😆
City could play the old style (pre Haaland), if it comes to that. We have much more dangerous players out wide now. Think Sane and Mahrez.
Pep will have a plan for both situations
Julian already won everything so this wasnt about winning champions or english league with City, this was about being a starter because his overall performance has dropped a lot in the last year due to not playing enough. Also in a lot of those mentioned 54 games he subbed in the second half so he didnt play full minutes.
if they sign Alvarez they have big chance in winning something.
This reminds of chicarito. Was never the same player after leaving man utd
The number will not drop. Let's not pretend like Simione still plays that defensive haram ball.
Its more attacking nowadays and with Alvarez it will be evem more.
I can see him having 20 goals and 10 assist season.
I just pray they use the money for back up to Rodri. The man can’t do it all on his own
With that 70-80m sale pep will surely bring atleast 1 more big signing before the transfer window closes because it has been a quite underwhelming transfer window so far
Alvarez is just been hasty. Atletico with their ultra defensive playing style will not suit him. He’ll end up getting fewer minutes in the big games.
C'mon, lets be real. Alvarez may be missed yes, but a bigger loss is not getting a Rodri replacement. Rodri is more important to the team than Alvarez. They can get subs for up top, but its harder to get a sub on to replace Rodri.
Anyone whos trained under pep will thrive. He will thrive even more with athletico because of the amount of play time he will get.
Stevie is shocking. Alvarez has won it all, he doesn't care about winning trophies as much any more. He just wants to play regularly
These American sports talk shows are so highly produced they probably get told to make certain arguments so everyone is not just agreeing.
This is a great transfer for both sides undeniable
ATLETICO WILL HAVE SUCH A STRONG TEAM WITH ALVAREZ AND SOROLTH
I would love him to come to Real Madrid but it’s rare for the Argentinian footballers to play for the club especially when we’re occupied with lot of bunch of talents in our depth.
what are you retarded? mbappe, vinicius, endrick, rodrygo, and diaz is not enough?
Higuian,garay,gago
Too many black ppl at Real Madrid for an Argentina player thinks about playing there
Madrid is literally Madrid because of an Argentinian. Look up who Di Stefano was and where Madrid were as club before he arrived and how they have been regarded since
@@halamadridpatriotsnationgo1057 higuian. Gago.
To be successful in La Liga you need to be technical player. CG will be on the bench as a soldier.
Technical like De Paul 😅😅😅😅.
Ath Madrid is cooking
Didn’t Alvarez know he was going to be second fiddle to Halaand before he came??
Like I don’t get him
As long as KDB remains injury free City have a chance to win trophies else it will be tough.
YTou are missing some verry important details like Atlethico Madrid has the most argentinians in Europe and is a verry good team with an argentinian verry good coach. So he will be reunited with his argentinian colegues in a verry nited team. He will fit perfectly and be motivaded to play at his best for his team.
Alvarez leaving city but espn fc feeling bad for city and don is next level city fan
Alvarez will leave for where he can play, because now he has a taste for bigger game: the World Cup. Imagine Argentina having a sharp Alvarez alongside a patient Martinez, even without Messi. In front of that midfield, there aren't many sides who will hold them back.
Thank you for explaining why olmo is so important . All these genius youtubers talking trash and dont know anything .
Like City hasn't pressed more efficiently and ferociously in the past when Alvarez was still in Plates academy.
Sad to loose Alvarez but we still have 2 prolific strikers...Haaland and false 9
Most South Americans players want to play/live in Spain + there is no guarantee that city wins anything after 12 months if Pep leaves
Julian is making the cancelo mistake
HE NEEDS A MOVE AS EVERY FOOTBALL PLAYER NEEDS MORE GAME TIME.🔥.
seems Dan thomas really hates Gallagher, not sure what he did to him!😂
Wait is City supposed to win the champions league? 😂
So halaand would be their only center forward? 🙄
LaligA 🔥😂💪🏽
▪︎Joao Felix picked Atletico over City
▪︎How that turned out?😂
Can you guys tone down the hatred to real madrid and la liga 😁
City won 2 titles with no striker so Im sure they will be fine
Why can't English pundits pronounce player names correctly. Julian Alavarez has been in the Premier League long enough for people to know how to pronounce his first name. But then again, Bruno Fernandes has been in the Premier League even longer, yet English commentators and pundits *STILL* don't know how to pronounce his last name correctly.
If Alvarez moves city not winning anything this season, check me at the end of the season
Pep gets to go back to his false 9 system
Such a bad decision to leave city
He is going to end up like Felix
La Liga >>>>>>> EPL . EPL is just a very expensive and very boring farmers league.
Now City must play the uno reverse card and go for their main target Jamal Musiala.
Barcelona should’ve got him And sold Lewandowski he exactly what Barcelona needs
I have a bad feeling about this, they turned Jaoa Felix into a mediocre player, a player who we believed would storm the world of football
But let’s hope they will do better this time
Alvarez should stay in man city if wanna win
