  • Noodle November is such a blast, and it just keeps getting better every year! Thank you for putting this together, Tony ‪@KettleKitchen‬! I also want to thank my lovely neighbor, George, who sent me a text with a link to a similar recipe that reminded her of a dish her mom made many years ago. George had previously gifted the tiara and "magic wand" spoon that I used and wore in this fun video. She challenged me to make a video as the "Queen of the Kitchen..." and here it is. We hope you enjoy the fun as well as the recipe. After making it, JJ asked me to make it at least once a month in our kitchen.
We found this recipe in the Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook, First Edition. The book in my collection was published in 1950, just 5 years after the end of World War II. The description for the recipe states that this recipe was, "developed by our Staff in the days of rationing to make a little meat go a long way." Boy, does this recipe deliver! You can use well-seasoned ground beef or sausage. I would say you could also substitute heavily seasoned ground turkey, chicken, or venison, if you'd like. We chose a mild Italian sausage, and it was a hit in our home! There was just something about the fennel in the sausage that sent this meal into outer space.
    The Recipe, as published:
Make sauce as directed in (each) recipe and pour over hot drained Boiled Macaroni (8 oz. uncooked) (p.380) on hot platter. Sprinkle with grated sharp American or Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately. Serves 6-8.
(Big Valley Living's Note: we added the 8 oz dried macaroni to a pot of boiling water about 38 minutes before the sauce had cooked through. It cooked for a total of 8 minutes before we drained it and added to the sauce. We sprinkled the grated sharp cheese over the recipe, then covered the pan until melted. To save on dishes and clean-up time, we served it from the pan that we used to prepare the recipe.)
Cook until yellow in 1 tsp. hot fat...
    1 cup minced onion
    Add and cook until brown...
1/2 lb. bulk sausage or well seasoned ground beef
    Add and simmer 45 min...
    2 1/2 cups cooked tomatoes (#2 can)
    1 cup diced celery
    3/4 cup minced green pepper
    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper

I love the old recipes! While I was born in 1962 I grew up on WW2 recipes that my mom and my grandmothers made. I love them! I do most of my cooking in my mom's cast iron pans for that like home feeling and having her in the kitchen with me still.

Hello Michelle. I love your videos. I love how you make your videos fun, as well as educate people on the history of what you are doing. I love your Homefront Maccaroni. I love that you shared the story about your grandmother and how you could still smell her perfume on the scarf. I hope when I go home to the LORD, my children and grandchildren have my items and can smell my perfume on things to remind them that I will always be with them. I love the PC Mix & Chop. That is an awesome tool that I use often. Have a BLESSED DAY ❤❤❤

surely treasure the memories this way.
Thank YOU for filling my heart to the brim of happiness!

Thank you! I had wanted to do that for a while, and it was fun. I never have liked goulash, mainly because the noodles got mushy. This recipe doesn’t allow for that, and the flavors came together, too. In fact, JJ took Italian sausage out this morning - so you can probably guess what’s for dinner, haha!

LOVE the black and white and the tiara and scarf and I wondered WHY you were using an extendable back scratcher as a magic wand when alas; it was a magic spoon.
