  • Jackson JS22 Cleaning from top to bottom, and then upgrading with a ton of cool stuff.
All wiring / soldering (RIP my soldering iron...) was done by Gideon Maki of Lexington, KY. He's the best! Go peep his stuff: / gm.gtrworks
    www.lylakband....
Total build cost (I don't remember everything exact):
Guitar: got in a trade. Value is about $100.
Pickups: about $50. I'll sell the old ones for probably $20.
Electronics: new wiring harness, pots, switch, and Tesi kill switch totaled about $65.
Pickup covers, truss rod cover, and rings: about $55.
    Neck Illusion: $30
Grand total for the build: roughly $300. Not bad!

Yeah you can find them for as cheap as 150$ sometimes even one hundred dollars for a decent used one. Definitely worth the money for what it is.

This guitar is awesome. I love mine. I own the exact same one, color and all. But I just ordered some Guyker locking tuners (black), as the stock Jackson tuners are jumpy and sometimes come out of tune, even without divebombing. I know you insist a $200 guitar is not worth upgrading it too much, but I think it is a great idea. You can make the guitar the way you want it. It is a decent foundation. I will be adding some Seymour Duncans soon along with new pots. Your guitar looks great! Thanks for sharing your experience! Keep on rocking!

A custom nut is so cheap, and it makes more of a difference on a guitar (especially a cheap one) than anything else! :)

Did you get a slotted nut that fit or did you have to use a blank and slot it yourself? Which part #? I have a JS32Q DKAHT and the plastic nut is garbage. I found a slotted that is really close in length but I am not sure on spacing. Going with Graphtech Ratio locking tuners on mine. Yours turned out nice!👍🏻

My luthier always uses Graphtech blanks and cuts them custom to the guitar. Cheap and perfect! Rock on \m/

Nice, what string gauge did you use?

    • @nofrillsnoskillsguitar365
      @nofrillsnoskillsguitar365  9 місяців тому +1

Those are 10-46 Ernie Ball. I put that gauge on almost every electric I have unless it needs to serve a specific purpose like drop C or something.

Best strings on the planet man!@@nofrillsnoskillsguitar365

Those DR colored strings are straight garbage. You're right, they're just a gimmick.
They dont sound very good compared to something like an XL nickel-wound string, and they dont last very long. The black colored outer layer starts to wear off almost immediately and looks really ugly when they are half black and half silver.
Another issue is that you have to be pretty close to the guitar & have good lighting to even see the colored strings. So not even the people in the front row will notice them. The black just looks like shadows onscuring your strings.
Trust me. I wasted tons of money on those back in the day. I was never happy with how quickly the color fades. I havent bought any since i was like 13 lol. I switched to D'ddario XL and never looked back. Theyre worth the few extra dollars. They sound incredible.
