cool video man, thanks for the review against the machno!
Thanks Matt!
130 pounds is a marathon runner. 130 Pounds is just over a horse jockey. 130 pounds is me as a slender 6th grader. To say this makes a huge difference in boat performance is quite the understatement.
Haha, well it is what it is. I don’t run marathons and I don’t jockey horses, and no matter how much I eat I don’t gain weight. And yeah, it def makes a boat perform differently than someone with say 50 more lbs in same size boat.
And being light and tall means I can’t always fit in the size I should be in for my weight. I’ve def found a lot of boats that do fit me well though: M Antix 2, M Flow, S Gnar, S Firecracker, S Ripper 2, etc.
lean a bit forward or move the seat forward and the alpha stern does not bite as fast. For the spinning you get used to.
Copy that. I never tried that, but I know a lot of people doing that with their Codes, but to help with tracking not grabby stern. Does moving seat forward in Alpha help w tracking, or do you just learn to prevent spinning w more seat time? I started to get it, but sold bc I didn’t like the ball bearing feel.
@@kevinhill.8 Seat time helps but not always. The alpha is narrower and has more rounded edges so every owner has a story from unintended spin offs. But what is strange when it is about driving into eddies it is the best boat i ever had it bites sharper then my burn 3 which has sharp rails from tip to toe.
Great review man!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
You know, that was a good review. I like to hear from "average Joe" kinds of paddlers, and I thought you covered a lot of aspects in features, feel and performance for weekend warriors like me, with thoughtful comments on the nuances of the boat. Thanks.
Also - I am not tall (5'8" or so) and I found it more difficult to roll than my Machno Small - I see the difference in cockpit combing height - not sure why that would have an impact, but it would limit the upward reach when upside down setting up to roll.
@@jjascomb thanks a for your comments and compliments. I think you are right ab the cockpit/deck height and its affect on the roll. Just talking yesterday w a boater who sold his OG because it was just too wonky to roll, and I’ve seen others post them for sale for exact same reason. Anyway, he was thinking same as you. Having that high deck height makes it really hard to tuck tight and get hands up high, and I think makes it a little harder to snap the boat under you w your hips.
I noticed you had a mamba and was wondering if you liked the machno or mamba better
Mamba was my wife’s. She sold it and now she paddles the Machno since I don’t. She likes the Machno more than the Mamba, based mostly on better bow rocker and speed.
@@kevinhill.8 thanks for the info I had a mamba for a minute but sold it and got a machno I was hoping I made a good decision
