Chime/Orbital - Novation Circuit Tracks version

Another British acid house track, this time from the awesome Orbital @orbitalofficial

Still around, still releasing excellent music.
Heavily influenced by the original Chicago acid house tracks Chime builds around a single repeating sample with drums and TB-303 weaving around it.
I thought it was a natural for the Novation Circuit Tracks and I’m happy with how it turned out.
Both @gyubeats and Ski Oakenfull at Pointblank Music @pointblankmusicschool showed me how it was done.

Once programmed the track was all Novation Circuit Tracks. Audio out, played live - no added synth or effects.

Details for synth nerds.
The central repeating sample is short enough to put in one of the drum sample slots and dedicate Drum 4 to. The sample is from an old record that even Orbital haven’t been able to reproduce so I used a sample of this sample ;)
The track is missing a whole 303 line but I’ve tried to replace the ‘spirit’ of this with some bass squelches.. I hope to do more on a future Novation Tracks+Rhythm duet version.
I loved doing this…the keen-eared can hear I stopped playing this and just got into listening to it..hence the glitch at the end as I missed a change point. Proves it was live :P

Nailed it. Did you sample the first bit? Sounds identical.

There is a very short sample (about the length of a hi hat) then played as the rhythm. Orbital themselves say they can’t recapture the original sample even though they know the old record it was captured from. To play it now they use a sample of a single hit from the original track….I therefore did the same and agree it works well! Also look here…..ua-cam.com/users/shortsTuXCyozyiew?si=IAUbzOMKW8DYXUhO
