Back in the mid '70s, when I was 18, I found a red '67 hardtop with 'His & Hers' Hurst Dual-Gate shifter. I traded in my '66 LeMans 'Sprint 6', 4 door ht. One day I found an ad for a GTO 'Sport Coupe' with a bad engine that was being parted out so I bought it and swapped the 4-speed and 4:10 Limited Slip rear end (plus a Ram-Air 4 cam from Pontiac and 650 Holley 'Double Pumper'). The rest was scrapped. No one wanted a 'post' car back then. I picked up a lot of acceleration, but top end was wrecked. SMH... 30 years later I discovered the '67 'Sport Coupe' was among the more rare models produced in '67. Most were bought soley for the purpose of drag racing in stock class'. The only really noticeable differences were a front bench seat with fold-down armrest, and the less desirable "B" pillar, along with that really cool lookin' curved Hurst '4 on the floor' shift lever to fit around the muscle cars with a bench-seat, leftover from the early '60s. Now I'm keeping my eyes out for a 2005-2006 for cruise nights! (gotta have those hood scoops!) Thanks for the heads-up on potential issues related to these later models. MPG? My slightly massaged 345 hp/5.7 HEMI Ram 1500 only gives me 8 MPG in town and 15 on highway! ... NEVER too old for gettin' sideways! LOL!
Yeah mine had that electrical tape under the cloth tape too. Im guessing its factory because it didnt seem to me like you could put the cloth tape back after you undo it, I had to cut mine. It was worn thru the cloth tape but not the wires luckily. Thanks for this video I really appteciate it, well done!
Thanks! Did you also see my video going over the common problems with these GTOs? I'm going to try to make a video explaining how to fix each one eventually, and I've made a few of those fix videos already.
Good video! My '04 had some issues that I traced back to that same bundle! I found no electrical tape on mine under the factory wrap, although I left a bit on there when I was done! I had three or four wires rubbed bare against that metal panel.
Great video! You ain't lying about those foot well lamps😅 those suckers will quickly blister the flesh if they are left on for any length of time. Great place for some new LEF lamps. That black tape you found in the harness was common though the 80's & 90's, not sure about in these GTOs, but I know I found it on my 3rd and 4th gen Camaros that I owned. The split loom is a great idea for protecting those electrical wires. 👍🏾
Just used your video to check and protect the wiring in my 2005 GTO. I also had the black tape on what looks like the same wires after taking off the wrap, so this appears to be the way the factory made them. I bought my GTO with 1,100 miles on it from the original owner, so this was the first time it has been opened. There were no wires damaged after 40K miles, but my interior lights do not work and blow the fuse so I'm still looking for what is causing that. Thanks for your video!
Thank you for the vid!!! ❤ Pontiacs, but the wiring and electronics 👎. Got rid of 98 TA cus of it 😢, but w/ this hopefully I'll prevent probs w/ my GTO!!!
I had electrical tape on my x3 #10 pin which is the radio on signal, and I also have issues with my radio stating on but not sure what I could change under the electrical tape. They basically soldered another wire into it which I don’t know if it was factory or not
My gto has been sitting for a year because I couldn't find out what was wrong with it. The windows wouldn't roll up or down, airbag light, stuck in limp mode, and at one point I was completely Locked out of the car and had to break in because doors are electronically controlled. I have my car completely torn apart trying to chase down these issues, now I'm not completely sure if my bcm is fried. For the love of God do this preventative maintenance or you will be stuck with an oversized paperweight. I have considered throwing in the towel and installing a Holley EFI system.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, check the connection at the back of the cluster. If all seems well those clusters are known no do that and also get dim
I have been having an issue with the “airbag fault” sensor coming up I took it to the dealer and they deleted the code but a month later the same thing came up. I took it back and they told me it no longer appears on there scan tool so its an electrical issue. Could this be causing that?
I don't recall if the airbags communicated with that body control module for sure, but if I had that problem on my GTO, this wire bundle would be the first thing I would check.
A topic I avoid. I always had my brother do electrical issues for me or repairing TVs or radios. Which is why he later worked for ABC as an engineer before he retired.

Electric tape then section of rubber hose to act as loom and zip tie to bracket forget about it nice video
Sweet another GTO video. Thanks man. Love your content. I should do this when I have a free weekend.
Thanks! Yeah, definitely some good peace of mind on these cars.
I covered the top of the metal with rubber hose split in the middle

Thankyou for all this I just recently bought one. I am now hearing there are other issues with this GTO

Thanks for all your gto content very helpful!!!
Thanks! I'm glad it's helping people.

Three or four sounds like there could have been some interesting electrical issues happening before you fixed it!
What was your problem?
Mine is gages stop working
(Side mirror don't work , radio don't work)
@@abdalraoufbalbesi6688my gauge cluster isn’t working rn . And also my gas cap won’t pop some times. I’m hoping
This was great. Thank you. Do you have a video addressing a faulty fuel gauge?
Great video!

Need Tessa tape 👍🏼
Do you remember what size conduit you used for this job?

Could cause a blinker light to stay on front and back?

Try turning off VATS

I have problem with the gauges stops working randomly

@@CarsSimplified thank you
Did you ever find a fix? I just bought an '06 GTO and I have the same airbag fault code
@@dirtbikejaydollasadly no i had my mechanic check the wire harness and he said it looked fine! I still have the air bag light on
My fans wont turn on and some of fuses arent gettin current
i've worked in a plant, and the electrical tape / solder repair looks pretty typical

First. 😁
More wiring harness fun eh? 😅
Yup, it's always a good time!
