- I picked up a set of tow mirrors from a junk yard and upgraded my standard side view mirrors. I'll show you how to install them and get the power, heat, turn signals and puddle lights to work.

Awesome instructions. Do you know if your dodge does not have the motorized fold back as stock and you install tow mirrors with fold back option, is it pre-wired or do you have to install another switch? My garage door only gives me 4 inches space on each side with stock mirrors, so tow mirrors will have zero room, thus the need for motorized fold back. Thank you

You can find the modules and driver side door switch panel at a junk yard.
You can also program the truck with AlfaOBD to turn on the features of the new mirrors
I added the option for tow mirrors to shift down when i go in reverse but it doesn't work. I have the option on the radio but it wont save. I read on the app that you need mirriors that have a 4 pin connector

I program the puddle lights & turn signals at 12:00 with alfaOBD. Not at all complicated. I later used the app to turn on auto tilt in reverse.

You do have to connect the Bluetooth adapter to your phone before you can use the app.

The software doesn't work with iPhone. Just buy a cheap android phone or tablet and download the software to it over WiFi. I bet you could find one for $20 easy.

You can turn on puddle lights, but it's not called puddle lights in the computer. it's called mirror approach lights, or something like that. It's in the video. You can delete trouble codes, but if it's an issue still present, like a tailight out, it will come back on

Thanks very much! Everything worked but I have a question. How come my daytime running lights don’t work on the tow mirrors? The signals and puddle lights work but no DRL.
My truck never had day time running lights, but I was able to turn them on with AlfaOBD. I made a video on how to do it.

The setting is called "doors mirror approach light present"

It should be in there. Close to half way down there are a bunch of settings that start with "doors". I select 2015 for the year. I don't know if that makes a difference.

You don't have to have the app connected to your vehicle to scroll through the settings, so this is something that can be done while laying in bed. Once you find it, note the position of the scroll bar, or take a screen shot. This will help find it when you go back out to the truck.
@@WorkingOnStuff i just tried to look for the approach lights and puddle lights on the app without it being connected to the truck and both options were there, but as soon as i connected the truck to the app those options dissapeares i cant find why and the website for the app wont explain... thats so weird that it wont give me that option

Yup, you have to buy it for $49. Once you have it, you can make unlimited changes to multiple vehicles. Usually devices that operate like this app cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars and you are limited to only using it on one vehicle.
Hi I buy aftermarket tow mirrors but in the app alphaobd demo not show me tow mirrors or paddle light or signal light mirrors my truck is 2014 ram 1500 sport quad cab mirrors and lights is connected only working power and defrost
The demo won't be able to make any changes. You have to buy the full version.
Perhaps you should look up a video on installing those nut rivets. Drywall anchors!!! You're kidding.
They have already been replaced. It was just a temporary solution until I could get the parts. At the time You couldn't get them.
What obd2 reader are you using because I read alfaobd only works well with certain in’s readers the good ones are 100+alfaobd app is 50 ,
Obd link mx is what the alfaobd website recommends. I used a cheap blue one I got on Amazon and it worked. Others with a 2015 have reported it working. Others who do not have a 2015 have reported the blue one NOT working.
Very good video. I have a 2013 ram and was able to get the blinker lights to work but can’t for the life of me figure out the puddle lights. I watched your video over and over and have everything turned on that you did and still no go. Any ideas what I could be missing yet?
It's not likely, but it could be bad bulbs. My driver side just stopped working. I need to order a new one.

@@Proto2011Rail my issue was a bad bulb. I ordered a new set and they're working now. You can rule this out with a multi meter. You should get 12 v after hitting the unlock button
Daniel Gallardo I did not test the bulbs yet. I had other issues with my mirrors so I got another set and those lights did the same thing. Blinkers worked but puddle light didn’t. Could very well be bad bulbs since I got the mirrors pretty cheap.

Can I use any other OBD2 scanner? I have an apple product and don’t wanna change phones just for a truck
The last I checked, thre app is not available on Apple. Some people have had success using different adapters but others have not. Even with the same model and year truck. Thre 2015 big horns seem to be a little more forgiving.
Cant get my Bluetooth to see the unit, its android, the phone is set for Bluetooth, the truck is a 2014 i pressed the little button on the device and still I get no connection.I bought the blue one you have aand I bought the 49.00 dollar one. so I must be doing something wrong. Im trying to install the same mirrors. have any ideas?
There's a couple of things to try. The blue one needs a code to connect to your phone. You will have to look up your phone to see how to connect a device to it. Most phones can be connected by pulling down the top of your screen, holding down the Bluetooth symbol until the Bluetooth menu opens. Then scan for new devices. When the device is displayed, tap on it to connect. I think the code for the blue one is 1234. The $49 one you have may have a little button on it to connect to your phone. Once you have connected the device to your phone in this way, then you can go to the AlfaOBD app and connect. Hope this helps.

Did your old mirrors have power fold and is so do the new mirrors still power fold? I have to fold my mirrors in to fit in the garage, so power fold is a must.
My old mirrors were not power fold. To upgrade, you will have to buy power folding mirrors, new switches for the doors and modules.

Yes, its $50 and you can make unlimited upgrades to any vehicle. Or go to the dealership and pay $120-$150 per upgrade.

I don't know about Google Play's refund policy, but $49 is better than paying 3 times that at the dealership, and you can use for more than just turning on features. You can read and clear fault codes, if your check engine light ever comes on.

2018 and up you have to have a security bypass module or take it to a dealer. Sucks I know, I'm taking mine to the dealer next week.

Looking to do this for my 2017 Ram 1500, yours is the only video so far that made sense ($) and pushed for the $15 reinforcement brackets (duh). I saw this link and though wow, who would pay that much cheddar for a tow mirror upgrade (ua-cam.com/video/fRsAuTx9-Ow/v-deo.html) and their ODB Genie (for just $300). Really, for flash programming, certainty someone/anyone can produce a substitute just as good, for way less? "They" also say you need to upgrade door modules, did you need two new $200 a piece door models? The video I linked shows installing upgraded door modules, is this necessary? I bought new mirrors same as yours for $280 on ebay. Integrated tow brake and brackets shipping. thank you for the post.

Hi Barry! Can you tell me the numbers of the door blocks that you changed so that the mirrors folded? I can't find accurate information anywhere.
The mirrors I installed were not power folding. In order for me to do that, I would have to replace the modules inside the doors and replace the switches on the driver side door. I don't know the part numbers but you can get them from a junk yard. That would be the best option. I have the basic mirrors I want to change them my friend has a set from his sport 1500 with turn signals puddle light n folding mirrors, would all those features work on my truck or do I have to change the madule n program it ?
It depends on what modules and switches you currently have on your truck.

I got side swiped just the other day, took out my passenger mirror, if my mirrors already had the turn signal, puddle light,heated, and power fold, would I be able to just plug everything in without needing to adjust with an app? 2017 Ram BigHorn.
If it was already on, you don't have to turn it on again. Just replace the mirror.

This is the only app that I'm aware of that can modify computer settings on a Ram. Unfortunately for Apple users, it's not compatible. You can use an android tablet. You can check the Ram Forums. There are a lot of knowledgeable techs that may be aware of a new product that can work with Apple.

Question the right passenger side the mirror is magnified ? I don’t like mine the drive side is fine can see everything same side but the passenger side the thing look bigger ..... why ?
Mine look the same on both sides. I'm not sure why yours would be like that. Maybe a different model or year?

The T shaped reinforcement brackets on the inside of the door? No, I put them on. Ordered them from the dealership for pretty cheap.

How do you know if truck will be compatible with the wiring of the tow mirrors? I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn with just the plain stock mirrors
You can call the dealership with the vin of both your vehicle and the vehicle the new mirrors came from. Or you can have a look inside the door to see if the module has two plugs.

I can tell you this now you don’t have to take off the battery cable
When disconnecting electrical harnesses, if any positively charged wire touches any metal anywhere on the vehicle, it will fry something. I have owned a number of vehicles with electrical problems. You can also smoke while pumping gas, it's just not a good idea.

There is a setting called something like, use turn signals on mirror as running lights. I couldn't get it to work on my truck.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember. I did show in the video everything you need to turn on.

Did you turn on "everything" in alphaOBD? Did you get the mirrors used? You can check the bulbs.

I have also heard of people with alternate years, 2016, 2017, and it didn't work with this brand of obd adapter. AlfaOBD recommends OBDLink MX. Here's their website.

Hey Barry I just purchased both items and while trying every step you took I am getting a error message which states. “ No data received from ECU /Interface or data corrupted. Try to start the procedure again. If you receive this message too often try to adjust ‘interface Timeout’,’interrequest time’, response -request time’, and request interbyte’ parameters. If this will not improve connection stability your interface is probably faulty.
Do you have any idea on how I can get this fixed ?

I don't think you can do anything with the demo. I think it is just so you can see what the app looks like. You have to get the paid version to change anything. Its $49 and you can make unlimited changes to not only your car, but any compatible car. There are some other similar devices that once you use it on your VIN, it cannot be used on any other vehicle.

There are a few good apps you can use. If you get the obdlink mx, it comes with an app. Torque pro is pretty cool app.

I installed the mirrors then changed the settings on the computer. My truck did not have turn signals before but I was lucky enough to have the right module in the door. If it didn't have the 4ight module, you can replace it with the right module

1. "did you do the obd relearn right after the installation or are the puddle lights and turn Signals had work right after the installation" ... He literally told you what you have to do as well as him showing the process to get them to work in the video bro.
2. "Will this work on a dodge ram 1500 sport with basic mirrors with no turn signals or puddle lights" ... His video shows the basic mirror with it actually still installed before he put on the upgraded version. Did you skip to the very end? Pay attention and watch all the video.
3. "Can the door module be replaced if mine doesn't have the plug to connect the turn signals/puddle lights" ... His video shows you don't have to replace it and also, all the vehicles came with the same harness regardless of trim so your should have it. If not, that obvious means you need to upgrade the module which I doubt because again, they all came with the same harness regardless if it's the base or premium trims.
4. "i have a 2009 and a 2011 will this still work ?" ... He just told you (You can swap out any part from 2013 to 2018). Your trucks are 2009 and 2011 which means your vehicle does not fall within the same generation(4th) for these windows so of course it will not work.
Do they have the Alfaobd for iOS?
I don't believe they have it for Apple. You'll have to check the Apple Store.

Barry your video was great I bought the mirrors, brackets, veepeak and the alphobd. Everything worked great. Turn signals work but not the approach lights (puddle lights). Any suggestions?

I have a 2019 classic. Will the alphaobd register as a plug in that the dealer could say was a tuner and void my warranty?
I don't think you can use it as a tuner, but I'm not sure what would constitute as a violation of your warranty.

It won't but you need a security bypass module for 18's and above. I have a 18 and it works great!!
AlfaOBD is not a tuner and will not void warranty. You will need a security gateway bypass for 2018 and up. These guys will have what you need. Mine works flawlessly. Have changed my TPMS thresholds in my 2018 2500 Cummins, disabled seatbelt chime and activated global down on my windows. Next I will be activating factory trailer brake module as mine didn’t come with one
