Beautiful Zebra Botias, (my favorite loaches) real nice loaches, good advice on keeping many loaches, I have 11 clown loaches, 5 yoyo loaches, 3 angelica loaches, 1 Golden zebra loach, and one horse faced loach in my 125 gal.
Great video!!! I have several loach species and my by far favorite is my Golden Loach. I have a pair of them and talk about a fun loving, playful fish. Like you said you don’t want to put human qualities on a fish but I swear they have personality traits.
I’ve got 3 loaches together. They like each other but one really likes my tire track eel. Looks like he’s trying to kiss the eel the whole time... my eel just shrugs it off and is completely annoyed it seems
DATDUDE PETTY Thanks. I was just looking at it and wondering what plants to use to fill it in. Lol. Check out my Kribensis tank (playlist) and my nano-tank (playlist). Both of those are more along the lines of what I like. (I think of my tanks as aquatic gardens that have fish living in them. Lol)
Dan Hiteshew well I just setup a planted tank that I'm going to throw Discus and Angelfish fish in. I wonder what u put in ur tank to help ur plants grow
DATDUDE PETTY I really, really, wouldn't put Angels with Discuss. Discuss stress out very easily, and Angels are way too aggressive. Even the frenzied feeding of the Angels will totally stress out your Discuss. Do the Discuss (if you've got the water and skills to handle them) but leave the Angels out. I was just researching adding some Discuss to my Angelfish tank.
Dan Hiteshew lol. Copy that... I wanted to put my Yo-Yo Loaches in there but I'm not sure if they would stress them out or not.. They can be annoying sometimes.
DATDUDE PETTY I've got a person I can ask. We were discussing my various Loaches as possible Discuss tank-mates. Some can work, others can't. It depends largely on whether or not the Loach will "groom" the Discuss. This searching for parasites behavior can stress the Discuss too. Keep any type of "sucker" cat away from Discuss as well.
I know you are supposed to buy them in groups, but I currently have a black Kuhli(who shows his face once a week) and a YoYo, who is the life of the tank.
Earth Boy Sun And Rain. Yeah My YoYo is cool have 4 Kuhli’s but never see them shine a flash light in the middle of the night might catch a glimpse of one
You should get some more loaches in there, you would really enjoy them. like the vietnamese giraffe loach (Annamia normani), Pseudohomaloptera leonardi, and Homalopterula cf. ripleyi
That depends on how much he's chasing them. They can be pretty aggressive, so if you think it will stress or kill others, than maybe consider getting rid of it.
You got me curious about phylogeny, so I looked it up. Loaches are superfamily Cobiltoidea. (Notice the -dea ending indicating a superfamily. Families end in -dae.) Botiidae (pointface loaches) is one its families. The other family most often seen in the aquarium trade is Cobitidae (true loaches). Cobitidae are the long bodied loaches including Kuhlii loaches and weatherfishes. So all Botiids are loaches, but not all loaches are Botiids. Wait! There's more! Within family Botiidae are several genuses. Botia is one of those genuses. You have two of those--the striated loach and the kubotai loach. You also have two from genus Yasuhikotakia--the skunk loach and the red-fin loach. Finally there is the clown loach, the only member of genus Chromobotia. So all Botias are Botiids, but not all Botiids are Botias. This is interesting. Thanks for piquing my interest.
My two cents on skunk loaches. They may seem like playful, little fish; but they are the most aggressive of the loaches. They'll kill fish considerably larger if that fish won't fight back. I've had that happen. Yes, killer skunk loaches! But as you say, they need to be kept in colonies.
They go me again, a native tank and it looked just like Dan's Native tank. I was sure it was Dans Native tank. The person was slick. It had the wood logs dead in the middle of the tank and everything in the same places. The rocks too and the guy says this is my native tank. Of course i cut him off pissed me off. I would like 5 Louches they look cool. Animals are allot like humans they will taunt and play.
“Botia” is the genus of the specific loach and for example “Striata” is the actual species... so the scientific name for the Zebra loach (that’s the common name) is Botia Striata, bc it’s from the Botia genus and the specific species. Botia is just one genus or “type” in the broad loach family... so for final example your Botia Striata their scientific name is “Botia Striata” and their common name is “Zebra Loach” and that is what most people in the hobby know it by. So that’s why ur prolly getting confused is just the difference between scientific and common names... a little bit of research on ur loaches could fix your confusion!
They are all loaches but split in two families cobitinae & botiinae I believe botia is a nickname ? I could be wrong, I don't quite understand all the classifications
Love the hardscape in this tank.
Thanks!
Beautiful tanks! Love all your videos
Thanks!

Nice looking loaches Dan looking good brother
I have one 3' clown loach and he hides sometimes but most of the time he just cleans the tank and hangouts with my angelfish
That is one well planted tank sir

Great info nice video
here the bothias looks fine but i heard they can be dangerous for other fishes. is that right?
I've never had any problems with them.

@@rmk22sr.2 The more hiding places the more they come out I've learned

Hilstream loach can b aggressive im my tank
Red tail Loach is Bad News
Should I keep my red tail shark that is chasing my other fish??
That depends on how much he's chasing them. They can be pretty aggressive, so if you think it will stress or kill others, than maybe consider getting rid of it.
Dan Hiteshew well it's only around feeding time for the most part but other times he just chills around in his little wooden cave I made
Yo yo loaches

I have 2 of them one lost a eye somehow I think I got em like that and I have a different one that pretty mean but idk what type he is

can u keep just 2 of them but i mean clown loaches
+Ewa Myhrén Two clown loaches should be fine. They get really big eventually though.
cool i have a 100 gallon like 5 foot long i think
Ewa Myhrén That's great.
ok
Everybody says Loaches Love the snails my don’t even touch them that is so strange I intentionally put some in there bigger and just died
That is weird. Loaches are specialized snail eaters.
Gotta starvem for a couple days
They are all loaches but split in two families cobitinae & botiinae I believe botia is a nickname ? I could be wrong, I don't quite understand all the classifications
Yoyo loaches are ass wipes lol they have a huge chip on their shoulder, when you get some you'll know why
Sorry but screw the loaches show me those fat happy minnows!!!!
