What about Yvonne’s partnership with Julian Dalrymple Sykes played by Ben Aris. I liked both partnerships. The one she had with Barry was funny because he wasn’t afraid to insult her and she regularly had a back and forth with Barry, reminding him about his upbringing. He in turn reminded her about her absconding with Julian and someone else. They both had acid tongues 😂 Julian on the other hand was always being suggestive and he was mad about Yvonne. Quite a randy devil Julian was. She just didn’t like the mud and smells of the pig farm he owned.
Great stuff, never seen this before, loved the show, still watch it today, but he's clearly miming, not sure if he actually sang this, if he did he must have had studio help as his voice isn't great, but fantastic character in the show, this is based on his appearance on pebble mill at one where he "sang" you've lost that loving feeling, it was excruciating, but great comic actor, and rip.
Paul Shane was actually a very good and versatile club singer, as can be evidenced from the numerous times he sings as Ted in the show, though here he is miming to his own record (which was not the version used on the show), as was common practice in BBC studio shows such as Top of the Pops and this at the time...He actually started off as a singer on the Northern club circuit before he got into comedy and acting, but, sadly, as far as I know, he never recorded an album...The infamous Pebble Mill at One appearance is awful, but it's meant to be awful and is usually taken out of context...He was promoting a show he was doing at the time in which he parodied a bad club singer, but most clips of this appearance fail to show the accompanying interview where he explained this...
@@molineuxphil indeed it is very similar to Ken Barrie’s version. But i think it mostly starts to sound more like Ken’s version after the instrumental part where he’s dancing with Ruth Madoc. Then it really was difficult to tell on the old LP records.
Fun song, I like how they appeared as their characters rather than themselves. Not as good as You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling though lol 😝 Hi de hi was ace, got the dvds. ‘50s style songs were popular around that time, with Making Your Mind Up and Do The Hucklebuck in the charts. Keith looks like Bobby from Bucks Fizz in his green jumper, Sally James had one on Tiswas too.
She did come across as a nice person.I wish that I had met her.I met Su Pollard from Hi De Hi.She is one of the nicest famous people that I have ever met.
Sadly most of the original cast of Hi De Hi are no longer with us, except I think Jeff "Spike" Holland's still with us, and obviously Sue "Peggy" Pollard, I know Ruth Madoc died last week (she was 79 but didn't look it)
Why do they keep crediting Ken Barrie with singing the hi de hi theme song? when it's been proven that Paul Shane did it, it's been stated in numerous interviews, and here is the prooof of it.
Ken Barrie sang the vocals on the TV show opening titles, and that recording was used throughout all series of Hi de Hi. In later series (1981 onwards) the closing credits used this version with Paul Shane’s vocal, but the opening titles retained Ken Barrie’s version.
Great stuff.Strange when watching these old clips is there are usually more people now dead then alive. Met Keith Chegwin in Torquay in 1997. The guy was a legend. One of the boys !!!! Thanks for posting this Neil. Archive footage at its best.
R.I.P Ruth, yet another star in Heaven.
Great theme tune, loved Hi De Hi back in the day
Brilliant. R. I. P. Paul Shane.
Paul Shane- Champion and Legend
We're going to miss Ruth Maddox I'm going to miss you as well she was a good actress I watch Ali hi again on UK Gold for just for her
Ruth was a real fox... Rip... God bless.
Absolutely brilliant 👏
Lovely find.
Love Barry and Yvonne Stewart-Hargreaves! ❤️❤️

Lovely to watch❤️
A fun watch.
One beautiful woman and sadly missed ❤❤❤
Absolutely brilliant
I loved that television program
R.I.P Ruth Madoc
Fantastic! Hard to believe most, if not all, the kids in the audience will be in their 50s by now!
And Jimmy Savile was probably waiting for every one of them after the show backstage!🤔
Classic

RIP Paul Shane, Ruth Madoc and Keith Chegwin 😔
Keith Chegwin in green jumper like Bucks Fizz singer Mike Nolan or Bobby Gee, Making your mind up.
Should have kept the real Hi di hi holiday camp open they used im sure people would still go
Love this, especially the little kid at the end who says Hi-De-Hi when Keith Chegwin says "Hello"
this was saturday morning tv for the uninitiated for the kids and the grown up kids ... a time when fear p o r n hadn't been invented or 24 news
when tv was much too whyne and much much more fun!
Fun fact: "Holiday Rock" was sung in the show by Ken Barrie, who also sung the theme to Postman Pat. Barrie also voiced Pat in the show.
Listening to Paul Shane singing this, it is very easy to think he sang the show version as well - sounds very similar to Ken Barrie's version.

Baby Baby
Paul Shane was 41 here...
So sad to hear that Ruth madoc has passed away
She was an awesome lady
She did come across as a nice person.I wish that I had met her.I met Su Pollard from Hi De Hi.She is one of the nicest famous people that I have ever met.
"Well, that's the main thing."
Is Cheggers wearing Bobby G's sweater from Making Your Mind Up/Eurovision?
I wish Gladys was wearing a mini skirt too😍
Sadly most of the original cast of Hi De Hi are no longer with us, except I think Jeff "Spike" Holland's still with us, and obviously Sue "Peggy" Pollard, I know Ruth Madoc died last week (she was 79 but didn't look it)
How many hi de hi did he just sing then 😂😂😂😂

I wonder why this wasn't on Top of The Pops with being a BBC show ?
This was Children's BBC.
didnt recognize the yellowcoats
Most likely that the two girls were extras from somewhere or other. They definitely weren’t in the show
When comedy and music was great but often also whimsical and less a political lecture.
Poor Ruth, doesn't have the slightest idea what to do
Didn't Paul Shane look fantastic at 40 years old?
Who are the two girls next to Ruth??
Paul has a good voice and great song, but he was once pebble mill singing was awful but its what song suits your voice respect to him.
Worst miming ever. 😅😅
Great stuff.Strange when watching these old clips is there are usually more people now dead then alive.

One of the boys !!!!
Thanks for posting this Neil.
Archive footage at its best.
That's time for you.
You saying the audience is dead too??
Didn't know Paul sang theme tune
R.I.P Ruth Madoc
