That's very kind of you to take the time to share your comments on our AM2 Preparation Course videos George. We're delighted they helped you pass your Practical examination. All the best :-)
Just wanted to say a big thank you for your videos, I found these invaluable for preparation for my AM2 which I was extremely nervous about. I'm happy to say I passed first time. Thanks again guys!
You're very welcome Sean and thank you for taking the time to stop by and let us know. Our AM2 Preparation course was our very first in house course and it's currently still our most popular with, we're delighted to say, a very high learner pass rate :-) Anyone who's interested can find out more at our XS Training Academy site - www.xstrainingacademy.com Thanks again Sean - very appreciated. All the best
Hi, Thank for the comment. The AM2 preparation course is brilliant to better prepare yourself for the AM2 and is available from the XS Training Academy www.xstrainingacademy.com
Are all the terminals between the isolator and the top of the contactor already done? And is the sy cable already pre made up of is that something you have to run yourself.
Hi Nathan, thank you for your comment. The control cables are prewired within the DOL, yes. The only part you will need to do, is the supply to the Isolator using singles and then install and gland off the SY cable. Please watch the video in relation to the control cables though, as you will need to know these connections when you come to the fault finding.
You may very well be right - Jamie Gibbs started out working as an Assessor for XS Training but left the college a couple of years ago now to take a senior manager role with the company. A great guy, we're really lucky to have him :-)
Hi I just wanted to know about the socket for load side: is it a spur/fused spur? or it's just a socket for motor? and what is the termination look like? I can not see the full picture for termination may be its not close enough? I do not know. Even though I had all the videos but there was not any termination for the load end? thanks
Hi Dave, you need to test IR from the board and then again from the load side to ensure you test the supply and load side. Test between L1 - L2, L1 - L3, L2 - L3, L1 - N, L2 - N, L3 - N, L1 - CPC, L2 - CPC, L3 - CPC and N - CPC from both ends.
Is there any reason why all line cores of SY cable have been sleeved with brown, if I see correctly, rather than with brown, black and grey (for 3 phase)?
SY is manufactured with black insulated cores, which are numbered. Some centres ask for the cores to be sleeved brown first. Then number 2 identified with Black sleeving and number 3 with grey. If you look closely they are identified in this way. If the centre have Brown, Black and grey sleeving available, please use this. Thank you
Hi Chris, thank you for your comment. L1, L2 and L3 need identifying as Brown, Black and Grey. Black and Grey sleeving will be used if your centre has it available. Some centres don’t and this is why the video shows an alternative way.
The majority of AM2 centres still use the PVC clips as there would be no risk of the cable dropping in the event of a fire. A longer cable installed horizontally would definitely need metal ties. If the centres have upgraded there specifications and have metal ties, yes use them.
The DB is safely isolated. The connection points are not accessible and as a risk assessment has been carried out at the start and therefore I have deemed to be working in a safe manor.
@@fennybenton8705 So how did you get a CPC to the motor? I’m curious because when I done my am2 we used 5 core SY but someone on our firm who just done the Am2 said it was 4 core SY, 3 for phases 1 for neutral so now you run a separate cpc?
I just recently passed my am2s assessment and want to say thanks. Your videos were very helpful in my preparation.

Any tips on how to better prepare
Hi, Thank for the comment.
The AM2 preparation course is brilliant to better prepare yourself for the AM2 and is available from the XS Training Academy www.xstrainingacademy.com
The clearest explanation I have seen for this. Many thanks 👍
Thank you, we try our best to include everything to ensure your AM2 experience is less stressful.
Can you please show the full installation I mean final installation....how it all look
they do have all the videos but they want 125 + vat for them, so you have to pay if you want to win
Excellent teaching.

hold up a second... i swear this guy used to work as a tutor in leeds. pretty sure he tought me in my first year

The cable coming out of the remote switch is left out for your assessment.....am I right in saying it needs to be terminated into terminal 96
Thank you for your comment. This is correct Alan.

Hello, thank you for your comment. Is it the Motor circuit or the Ring Final circuit that you are referring to?
Does anyone know how you would do an insulation resistance test on this? I failed this on my AM2
Hi Dave, you need to test IR from the board and then again from the load side to ensure you test the supply and load side. Test between L1 - L2, L1 - L3, L2 - L3, L1 - N, L2 - N, L3 - N, L1 - CPC, L2 - CPC, L3 - CPC and N - CPC from both ends.
did you test both sides of the DOL ? use the plugs on the simulated motor box to test IR to the DOL, same when you do r1+r2. hope this helps
Add more video for other circuit and Risk assessment for am2

Jamie,
Thank you very much for the answer
Would you fail the am2 if you failed to sleeve the sy cable all together ?
Why are they asking for SY cable to be used to supply a motor ?
Hi, this is on the specification of the AM2 practical assessment you will have to take.
Do you have to sleeve the L2and L3 with brown at all? Also the grey sleeve with blue?
Hi Chris, thank you for your comment. L1, L2 and L3 need identifying as Brown, Black and Grey.
Black and Grey sleeving will be used if your centre has it available. Some centres don’t and this is why the video shows an alternative way.
Is the plastic cable tie OK, or should they now be metal ties to comply with regs?
The majority of AM2 centres still use the PVC clips as there would be no risk of the cable dropping in the event of a fire. A longer cable installed horizontally would definitely need metal ties. If the centres have upgraded there specifications and have metal ties, yes use them.
Your left elbow is practically touching the 3 phase incoming supply

Hi, is this rig similar to the actual am2 rig that is used in the prep courses and exam?
Yes very very similar
Hhh that is exactly test centre of Am2. Make sure NET doesn't know about this video because you will put yourself in trouble mate.
I got my results back and this is the only bit i have to retake 😢
All the best for your retake 🤞
Do we have to terminate and 2nd fix the sy cable? Or would that be pre wired already?
Yes you have to run it and terminate it.
You do need to first fix and second fix the SY cable.
Will you have to wire the contractor or does it come pre wired? So will you wire the incoming and outgoing to motor only?
does the load side not need a neutral ?
Hi,. Thank you for your comment. The AM2 specification states 3 phase , 3 wire is to be installed.
So will the SY cable provided will be 3 core for the 3 phases and cpc is provided by the SY braiding.
@@fennybenton8705 No, the braiding on SY cable cannot be used as a CPC
@@uplightuk8924 Yes found that out but thank you for replying
