I think a big problem is that a lot of people have no idea what nostalgia is. It's turned into yet another one of those buzz words that get thrown around that make actually discussing ideas hard.
This is so true. People will throw any term out there, even if it doesn't fit in the argument, to try and make your argument look bad because you have a better understanding of the debate than them. No dude, it's not just """nostalgia"""". Sigh. 🤦🏻
As someone who became a God of War fan in 2020 by playing the 2018 game, I must say after discovering and playing the older games afterwards, I found my self going back and playing them more often than I did with 2018 (and Ragnarok). Now I'm not saying that they are bad games per se, I just think that the older games have better game mechanics and are more playable for my taste, especially with God of War 3. But thats just me.
@@ghoost4308 Of course cause the older games focus on Combat mechanics but the story overall is still good. 2018 and Ragnarok in the other hand focus more on the story telling.
For me the greek games are far superior due to their replayability, the new games are excausting for me. The Greek games start with these huge boss battles and it gets you hooked immeadiately, the new games are slower
I never thought about that even though I’m familiar with what you’re talking about. The boss fights at the start of the GOW trilogy shows how games were unforgiving back in the day.
In all honesty, games back then were more FUN in so many aspects. They were considered the best even, because they are timeless classics. There are things done better before than now.
I can confirm after heading back to red dead redemption 1 (ps3 version). The game somehow feels simpler but yet….more fun than the newest one. You know, it’s really not about close to life details and realistic physics. A good game just needs to be action packed and dynamic, in my opinion. I don’t play a game for the same reasons I’d watch a movie.
This is my favorite video you've ever made, and that’s saying a lot because you have a lot of straight-fire videos. I’m also beyond sick of the "nostalgia" and "you’re stuck in the past" argument, especially for GoW games. So thank you for this video. I loved Ragnarok and 2018, but when it comes to gameplay, it’s not anywhere near 1-3. 2018 especially, I severely dislike the combat, but thankfully Ragnarok improves a lot of it (besides bare-handed mode). That’s why I love DMC, too, because they didn’t change their formula and I feel like they respect their fans. I personally still prefer DMC 5 over 3 because I personally play DMC games to master stylish play as much as possible, and I prefer GoW for challenge runs a lot more. When I say DMC 5 has way better "combat" than DMC 3 or GoW 3, for example, I mean style and moveset-wise. DMC 3 might have more technical encounters, which I still love, but DMC 5 and 4 have better moveset combat depth by a long shot. I might change my mind though because I’ve been replaying a lot of DMC3 lately because of your streams, and it’s beyond fun tackling some of the encounters and Vergil 3, especially.
Playing DMC3 feels like a young rookie, there's a lot of trouble and a lot of limitation that you have to fight through. Playing DMC4 and DMC5 feels like master at work, you're that overpower master. The one who coming down from the mountain to kick some asses. Throughout the entire series of DMC games, it's the same yet so different. Honorable mention. DMC1 feels like super action focused Resident Evil 1, DMC2 is, well, DMC2.
Old GOW games were just better period anyway. From a mythological standpoint, amazing Gods, the worlds were amazing and no rpg elements like other games. No silly Disney sections like Atreus
I played God of War 1, 2, 3, CoO, and GoS all for the FIRST time last summer, and I LOVED them. (though CoO was kinda clunky) I am 27 years old. I have no nostalgia for these games. They are just amazing GAMES. On the other hand, I tried SotC last year for the first time, a game that came out the same year as GoW 1, and I DIDN'T like it. It's just not a good GAME. This is what modern gamers don't understand and the reason for this schism. Gaming was not popular back then, because it appealed to gamers only. But nowadays, game companies put more effort into attracting people into gaming. By definition, that means appealing to people who DON'T like games. That means making "games" that are less like games, and more like things the general public likes and are familiar with. For example, movies or real life. That's why the most popular games nowadays focus on cinematics, emotional story-telling, acting, etc. or focus on hyper-realism, 3D, open world, billions of RPG mechanics/options, etc. (or both). Gameplay (and even 2D gaming) tends to take a back seat. And gaming companies succeeded, and that's why we have a gaming boom now. Edit: I also want to add that, gaming wasn't popular back then, because gamers were always looked down on as children. So now you have modern gamers and games that focus on being "mature", or "dark", or "art" to make it more palatable to these people, and I find the whole thing to be pretentious.
I got into DMC during the pandemic, and most of them are still phenomenal action games. DMC 3 holds up very well speaking as someone who fell in love with the series only a couple years ago.
Old games provided less open world but the amount of things and exploring mechanism you could do in the provided area is so much more than most new games even with more open world
I've said this before I'll say it again. Modern open words exist tor marketing used as a buzzword and a cover up for lazy or poorly thought out core design. Open worlds were better back in the 6th and 7th gen when they were smaller and more condensed packed with content and focused. It's why I don't play Modern open world games. They're designed from the ground up to waste your time and the worlds they offer aren't even that interesting.
Things like this also entirely depend on the person. Maybe there are some people who genuinely prefer the old games entirely because of nostalgia (I doubt it, but I'm just saying for examples' sake), but then you have people like me who were introduced to the GoW series through 2018, and then grew to prefer the original games over the new ones.
Unfortunately this has been going on for a long time in the gaming community, along with "X game hasnt aged well" just because it uses mechanics, that are not bad per se, just not "the standard" anymore. It infuriates me and im glad finally somebody said it outloud
>insert Assassin's Creed 1, or just the old AC games for that matter with their great parkour system that is overlooked by most people simply because it's not as pretty as Unity's
Thank you for making this. This honestly made me remember how I used to have fun on snow days with my cousin coming over and playing these games with him and us having a good time. Again, thank you for making this.
The new God of War games are pointless messes (mainly thanks to Ragnarok). The Greek games had more love, passion, and thought put into them than that rushed and messy Norse saga.
I prefer older games than the new games. I'm not blinded by Nostalgia since some of the older games do have issues but it's way more fun than the new games which I like playing and they're good in their own right but it's not has fun as the old games. I love God Of War 4 and its world building and content but God Of War 2 and God Of War 3 are way more fun. I would say the same thing with my favourite game of all time Tekken 5 with Tekken 7.
I 100% agree with that statement that new gow games are not gow games nor are they part of the hack and slash genre though they certainly have some elements of that genre, they’re not enough to make the new games hack and slash
Norse god of war games wasn’t meant to reply multiple times those games aren’t 10 hours long like the classic god of war games. And you dont make any sense when you said you want to play games not Watch one
@@sakuragi1062 Norse games are walking simulators. You hold the left stick forward for sometimes 5 minutes and that's it. You can't skip those sections.
@@Jack_Napier58 your comment is what's wrong with modern gaming... (i hope you realise that im not agreeing with you since you're just being arrogant)
As a recent DMC enjoyer that started chronologically the franchise (excepting DMC2 and the reboot) i can Say that the 4 games are solid but the best definitely are dmc5 and dmc3
So true...older games are way more simple back then you could beat a game in only 4 hours while now you need like 15 hours to only play the story not even including all the other collectables and dlc's.
Exactly that's what I also do with DMC3 yes it's my favorite DMC but i don't revisit for nostalgia but we revisit for gameplay you know like jogging we run so many km that our brain says you know let's do another round & that's the same thing here in gaming we love those things that we do another time until we master it or get satisfied. Which is why game's yes is nostalgia but for revisiting not replaying it.
Just to say as someone who fell in love with 2018 before even knowing of the EXISTANCE of the older seris... after coming to realize Kratos has so much history, I dove in and fell just as much in love, arguably even more so with not only the history but the old games' combat as well. Definitely not rare here considering the numbers, but just goes to show how well this franchise holds up even for someone who didn't mind, "walky talkies" at first, pretty good way of putting it btw. anyway, great video as usual.
That was a great video, it has so much depth to it and all of your points where valid zesty. A lot of my friends complain that the single player games shouldn't be replayed that often as I play them (GoW for example I play it the trilogy every day) They think that it is always the same as the last time I played it and they mocking me when I explain them the mechanics of the game and all that stuff you can do.
Of course it is not nostalgia. Passion just oozes through the screen when you play GoW. It unreasonable to think we love these games because of nostalgia.
Anyway, concerning GoW 3, there's one thing I liked a lot compared to previous games, and it's the changes to some of the enemies' AI. Basically, some weaker enemies (i.e dogs) try to grab you en masse, which leaves you open to stronger enemies' attacks, especially if the weaker ones pile up on you, which compensates for their greater presence and vulnerability to the Battering Ram and grabs. That's one thing I appreciated a lot, though I'd like to see Santa Monica return to the old format and improve enemy A.I further, perhaps to the point of even matching that of Ninja Gaiden.
@@hurricane7727 Yes, but they don't try to grab you all at once when there are many of them, and in general they also do it less often when they are few. And in general, I view mainline GoW enemies as better designed than DMC enemies. Though again, considering GoW is a game based on efficiency, I think enemy competency should be improved even further. In fact, I'd prefer less enemies with smarter A.I NGB style.
Just because someone loves old games and prefers some of them over newer titles doesnt mean we're blinded by nostalgia. We can enjoy older games but still be critical when necessary. Not every old game is lucky enough to age like fine. wine.
I always found the nostalgia argument to be shitty to be honest. There's been old games I've never played before or came out before my time and I found them to be more enjoyable than modern AAA games.
GoW 3 in existence is far different than let's say "DMC 3 vs DMC 5". You can say DMC 5 is legit just 3 but elevated in every single way, and it'd be hard to prove that wrong aside from maybe story. GoW 3 is an entirely different genre, feel, and aesthetic from the newer GoW's. Preferring it over the new GoW is more than just "nostalgia". It's legit liking a certain genre and gameplay orientation more.
The thing that I miss the most, is QTE’s, I don’t know if it’s nostalgia or not, but those to me where the embodiment of fun, I always liked the finishing moves with QTE’s, it’s a shame that in the new ones they removed it, also I preferred like I said many times, an hack and slash game instead of an “the last of us like” game, still I had my fun with GOW 2018 and ragnarok, but the top for me where the Greek trilogy including the psp games
Old games have Soul, new games are Soulless but we have to pretend they're all masterpieces becuase of the Honeymoon phase until they are inevitably forgotten in a month or 2
Can you use any term other than soul to crtisise a game because that is very vague, also a lot of modern games like rayman legends ,new god of war ,spider-man 2018 ,dmc5 ,both of the new dooms and Celeste are good games even though some them have some flaws like new god of war,so please stop using that term.
Games back then had way more meat and potatoes. They didn’t have to worry about story too much but gameplay was less restrictive and more loose. Tons of games were like that
I TOTALLY understand, man.i sometimes like the old games than the new games that come out, like, sometimes the old game has better story, combat.i sometimes even like the old games GRAPHICS! And it isnt even nostalgia! I like simplistic games that just dont have too much confusion in them, they are clear and dont need much thinking about anything.i will never EVER in my entire life say a game is bad,a god of war game is bad,all of the games are unique in their own ways.
"Games they're Games, they get better depending on how I get better." Truly a quote I can live by. No modern game can give me the same mechanical satisfaction of being proficient in a game I love.
After 8 God Of War games, haven't Santa Monica done all they could with the formula? Do we really need another Assassin's Creed with a dozen interchangeable titles? The original God of War trilogy ended on a high note and redefined action games. Let the formula rest. I'd rather have the old games on PC and PS5 than a new game with the same formula that they got the most out of 13 years ago. Same way I wouldn't care for another game with the 2018/Ragnarok formula. When a concept reaches its peak, its best to move on, otherwise you end up among the CODs and ACs of the world. DMC5 didn't hit as hard as it should have because Capcom refused to improve the one aspect of DMC that's lacking which is exploration and platforming. People are clamoring for a DMC 6 that improves those aspects but once it drops that's it, DMC in its current state has peaked. Same goes for AC, if they drop a game that's as ambitious as AC Unity but polished, that's it, the series has peaked. Look at COD, MW peaked in 2009 and BO peaked in 2013, ever since then they've been having diminishing returns and it took a game that's more SWAT than COD to revive the franchise. GOW1 perfected the resource management, GOW2's grand adventure is unmatched in the genre, GOW3 perfected the combat. So when Ascension came out it couldn't bring anything new to the table without shaking up the formula (and I'd argue the Norse Saga formula and perspective would suit a weaker younger Kratos more than the current version of him). I had my fill of OG GOW going from 1&2 to the PSP games to 3, Ascension is a nice bonus same way I had my fill of the Norse Saga with 2018 and Ragnarok. I wouldn't want them to stagnate with the next chapter of the series. There's always value in learning from past experiences and carrying over the stuff that worked (the power fantasy, puzzles, resource management, improved 1v1 combat, exploration) and ditching the stuff that didn't (fixed camera angles, pointless button mashing, putting cinematography over gameplay, gutting the platforming, the zoomed in camera). I for one want the next game to have a new formula. The series is back in the mainstream and no longer has to draw in the Naughty Dog crowd to be successful. Revert to a more gamey feel but keep the stuff that worked from the newer games and ditch the archaic stuff from the OG games.
Some of my favourite games are prototype and infamous and there’s truly nothing of recently that even compares to games like those so i have to play the classic. And i do prefer the older gow games then the new. even if the newer games focus on krato’s redemption and more storytelling. They dont beat the original trilogy for me.
That "argument" even funnier when you play old games like 2 years ago for the first time.. I played dmc3 in 2020 with all other dmc games and I still choose dmc3 over 5.
I think people frame nostalgia wrong. It's more about comfort of playing the same game that you dominate and operating on a controlled environment. Not a lot of recent games are as repayable as the new ones. RE4 classic has so much stuff already discovered that I can't judge players for not making the transition to the remake. The remake was never supposed to replace it. Same goes for DMC5 and DMC3, despite imo 5 improving over 3 in almost every way gameplay-wise. I have a similar thing with the Arkham games actually. Knight is by far, easily, hands down, the best arkham game. But city is easier to replay so when I revisit its mostly Arkham City cause I don't wanna pick up riddler trophies. It's not that complicated. PS: I fully agree with u that games don't age. In gaming what's good lasts forever. No wonder games like Doom Eternal and BotW made such a huge success when they launched, despite going for "old school design tropes".
DMC was legitimately the only game franchise you could've picked that completely changed everything from story to gameplay to make your entire topic moot.
Ive been saing this for almost 16 year but its for clássic Sonic (and by extension rare DKC over the retro dkc) there's mechanical nuances on the momentun and the level design that make thosse games so fun to play over everything else on the franchise until Sonic Mania, and still people call that only "nostalgia" for tge old games and not letting the franchise "evolve" and them Sonic Mania comes out and proves what Everyone single one of thosse classic fans been sayng for year right Also DMC3 Will be my favorite action game forever (that put me in trouble with the style community for a while)
I didn't start playing the God of War games until 2019 and I started with God of War 2005. To this day it's still my favorite one in the series and I've played every single one multiple times. It's certainly not nostalgia.
What people don't understand is that these are fundamentally different games. You can prefer DMC 3 over DMC V for the same reason that some people prefer Bayonetta over both of them. ESPECIALLY in God of War, they're very very different mechanically
Honestly Ragnarok killed my enjoyment and enthusiasm for games…. It became so clear to me with that “game” just how much games fallow the same formulaof graphics and “cinematics” and realism and completely have forgotten what makes game fun. I’m solely playing old games now, from crash, Dino crisis, god of war, god hand, DMC all the way to old games on consoles like N64 that Ive never had, and i got to tell you im having such a blast with all this old games, ive not had so much fun with games in forever lol
if they ever continue the GOW series they need to mix the gameplay of the greek saga with the gameplay of the norse saga somehow. It needs the same fast-paced combat of the OG GOW Trilogy but also requires the master reflexes needed for GOW 4 & Ragnarok, the kind where every move counts. I'd love to see a new GOW game that is a prequel to the Norse saga but takes place after GOW 3, a GOW game with that kind of gameplay would fit perfectly for the series. I wish we could have seen SMS try to expand upon the core gameplay further like they did with GOW Ascension. They did a really good job with the gameplay of that game, better than most people give them credit for.
Good point, I like retro games and I emulate them (fvck Nintendo) and people tell me that I am nostalgic… I was not born in the 1980’s how am I nostalgic
This is a great video that going through why liking old games or prefering them ISN'T nostalgia yet some comments are going way to far w/ "old = soul, new = soulless 🤓"... Taking all that nuance away.
Thats correct, some people have said thay with the re4 remake and It has quite a soul and just seems better ( of course, gamers can always play the og)
I haven't played Ragnarok because PS4 was so immensely disappointing. God of War PS4 felt like a glorified tech demo of some other game that someone jammed a vague recollection of Kratos into. Nothing was right, nothing was fun. They didn't even get his voice actor back, that's how bad it is.
I like the DMC Reboot, a lot of people have issues with it but I like the gameplay a lot and don’t care for the story at all, I never played it when it came out, I’ve played the other devil may cry games and like them, especially 3, but I like to play the reboot every few months and it’s very entertaining to play.
I'm 15 and I have a ps2, psp and a ps3. Sometimes my friends do question why I play on my ps2 And I always tell them, "some games do things better than others" and usually get a response like "How can a ps2 game do anything better than a ps3 game(by this they refer to the games graphics) This frustrates me.
New games are Good, old games are great Real simple Old games were meant for gamers New games are meant for casuals with gamers in mind, sometimes Also, DS2 Majula slaps
ok this is just plain and a stupid black and white mindset.... you do realise that with your logic... the 'old' games that (not all) are mechanically superior than modern games still can have a casual that plays an older game casually like GOW3 and it's not always gameplay elsewell.... GAMES are a wide spectrum of entertainment in which games will have a total number of things that movies and books won't replicate while games can do that... just look at how gaming evolved from tetris/ping pong to Doom and half life etc.
@@astralchaos3441 newier games do lean toward casuals, but that doesnt mean they lack difficulty and/or depth Dmc5 on normal difficulty (devil hunter) is a joke, the combat is so easy and there is no platforming/traps to challenge you But Dmc5 dante must die and even son of sparda are challenging and fun Dmc5 is a deep mechanic game with lots to explore On the contrary, dmc3's normal difficulty is really hard, with enemies that punish you for mashing, traps and platfroming that obliretate your ass While also being deep The good stuff is there in both games, its just that in old games its there from the start, in newer games you have to look for the depth and endure the start because its meant for the casual experience Lets take another example your more familliar with (i guess) If metal gear rising was a 2020 game, the parry would have its proper button, you'll be able to move during blade mode, cutscenes wont be skipipable, NewGame+ would have to be an update later on, there will be an "auto-aim" for blade mode to get health, the game will force you trough a toutorial (unlike the one we have it let chose whether you Want the toutorial or not)..... And it keeps going Basically stuff to make it easy for casuals so they wont get intimated by the game It'd would still be a good game, just with small annoying parts Sorry for the long comment thu

I would like to say something from the heart: I've been playing games for decades and I've played over 1300 games and I want to say the point of old games has always been that I have a lot of great mechanics In addition to Ripley's high value, you will always find that with each new walkthrough you discover more and more things and find more and more ways Many new games It feels designed to be a one time play only meaning the mechanics are easy to master and practice I do not mean all games, but the games have lost the spirit that distinguishes them with the dispersal of huge studios such as Studio Clover from Capcom. Konami and the creators of the gow series are starting to notice problems with the game's design In addition to that all parts of gow have been removed a lot of them but the old gameplay system is preparing to make a better story with shorter time and gameplay It can be renewed and added much more than the current one, so we find that the old games, despite the lack of development, come out almost completely from the gow series more than the modern series The old games contained soul, but the current games contain bags of money I do not mean to generalize all games, but I speak in general. You will always find that everyone in the list prefers old games, at least in the top 3 always. I don't want to talk too much.
Nostalgia is a beautiful feeling but i must say that you should know when this feeling is fake and when it's real, when it's uplifting and when it's trying to blind you and if you truly know how to tell the difference then you ma G are un control.
When I wasn't even able to talk, I used to watch my dad, sister, and aunt play through the og GOW trilogy. I never got to fully play though them, so these past months I've been going through them, and they are amazing. I personally think they are better than gow 4 and ragnarok, so it is definitely not nostalgia.
theres no other game that made me replay it more than 10 times exepte god of war and resident evil 4 the original i love theme wish there was more great games like that
I get your point im also one of the people who likes to replay games for the gameplay and mechanics that was the main reason i went into game design learning stuff how they do it and how can i contribute to industry. God of war point is great i feel the same way new god of war games are good but yea i do prefer older god of war games but devil may cry i don't agree tho dmc5 was a big upgrade from dmc3 and you had to buy jump cancelling in dmc3 too . I still play god of war 2 and 3 in a few months i start a run complete the game in a day and yea i get it what you mean I've been saying this for years.
I don't agree with you on one thing, though. Sometimes games do age. Although, "age" isn't exactly the most accurate term to describe what i mean. It's more like the public gets to know better. An example i can think of is the old FF games on the NES. They were seen as incredibly grounbreaking at the time and are still revered as classics to this day, yet almost everyone agrees that they're hella jank. And, yeah, just like you said, the games themselves and the way people played them didn't change. The japanese kid who played FF3 on the Famicom way back played the same game i did two years ago on my emulator. The difference between us is the kid who played it back then never played other games like it, while i played not only other FF games, but a lot of other JRPG's as well. To him, it was a groundbreaking trailblazer, to me it was a neat historical curiosity. One that i still ended up liking, but i won't claim that it's really that worth playing these days Otherwise, this was an interesting video, glad to see someone starting a discussion like that
While I do agree with what you say, I just cant like dmc 3 over 5. They're both great games, but like ds1, the game takes a dip in quality halfway through and then gets great again at the final boss. Mission's 13-19 of 3 are so unfun cause of the angels with shields, the stupid spider's, and many other reasons like arkham. I still play dmc 3 now and again but if I'm feeling dmc I go to 5 straight away

(though CoO was kinda clunky)
I am 27 years old.
Well put
I’m loving these new zesty style videos, you narrate more confidently and straight to the point and that’s what makes these vids enjoyable.
These are actual masterpieces
I don't have any nostalgia for these games but they are still better than any game I played
Man this video Is One of the best content I've seen on UA-cam since long time, I couldn't relate more with your words. Great job!

2:23-2:28 Well said.

In Gow 2 Harder Diffcultties enemies can one Shot you unless you get Health Upgrades
@@zapan8748 The Theseus Boss Battle on Harder Diffculties is the Hardest Fight and The Minotaurs can One Shot you
Just because someone loves old games and prefers some of them over newer titles doesnt mean we're blinded by nostalgia.

Fun fact: dmc enemy step it's glitch/bug from very beginning

Can you use any term other than soul to crtisise a game because that is very vague, also a lot of modern games like rayman legends ,new god of war ,spider-man 2018 ,dmc5 ,both of the new dooms and Celeste are good games even though some them have some flaws like new god of war,so please stop using that term.
Games back then had way more meat and potatoes. They didn’t have to worry about story too much but gameplay was less restrictive and more loose. Tons of games were like that
Some games nowadays have meat and potatoes, some have more than the games today, just saying
I got into God of War in 2020 with God of War 4 and have been a huge fan since and I have to say my favorite game is Gow3
I TOTALLY understand, man.i sometimes like the old games than the new games that come out, like, sometimes the old game has better story, combat.i sometimes even like the old games GRAPHICS! And it isnt even nostalgia! I like simplistic games that just dont have too much confusion in them, they are clear and dont need much thinking about anything.i will never EVER in my entire life say a game is bad,a god of war game is bad,all of the games are unique in their own ways.

majula ost looking fire
This video has an Under The Mayo vibe to it (just more chill) lol love it though
6:28 gonna use that strat very smart bro 😮
Dmc3 is such an old arcade ass experience that holds up to this day. I don't understand why it's bad to like it over 5
Some of my favourite games are prototype and infamous and there’s truly nothing of recently that even compares to games like those so i have to play the classic.
I love old games
DMC was legitimately the only game franchise you could've picked that completely changed everything from story to gameplay to make your entire topic moot.
Ive been saing this for almost 16 year but its for clássic Sonic (and by extension rare DKC over the retro dkc) there's mechanical nuances on the momentun and the level design that make thosse games so fun to play over everything else on the franchise until Sonic Mania, and still people call that only "nostalgia" for tge old games and not letting the franchise "evolve" and them Sonic Mania comes out and proves what Everyone single one of thosse classic fans been sayng for year right
Also DMC3 Will be my favorite action game forever (that put me in trouble with the style community for a while)
Did he say "squidward tentacle hentai"?
What? What's wrong with you?
I didn't start playing the God of War games until 2019 and I started with God of War 2005. To this day it's still my favorite one in the series and I've played every single one multiple times. It's certainly not nostalgia.
I'm stuck in nostalgia , like you sir
I'd like the old GOW games on ps5
Santa monica should do what Capcom did with DMC5 use the old games and build upon them with better combos/weapons/enemies/puzzles etc
What people don't understand is that these are fundamentally different games. You can prefer DMC 3 over DMC V for the same reason that some people prefer Bayonetta over both of them. ESPECIALLY in God of War, they're very very different mechanically
4:02 agree it's horizon zero dawn gamplay mechanics just little bit brutal and god of war charater.
I literally was 1 year old when gow came out. I played it for first time like year ago and loved it.
Had to use the Majula theme🔥

Old is gold simple as that
I like the DMC Reboot, a lot of people have issues with it but I like the gameplay a lot and don’t care for the story at all, I never played it when it came out, I’ve played the other devil may cry games and like them, especially 3, but I like to play the reboot every few months and it’s very entertaining to play.
I'm 15 and I have a ps2, psp and a ps3.
Sometimes my friends do question why I play on my ps2
And I always tell them, "some games do things better than others" and usually get a response like "How can a ps2 game do anything better than a ps3 game(by this they refer to the games graphics)
This frustrates me.
New games are Good, old games are great
Real simple
Old games were meant for gamers
New games are meant for casuals with gamers in mind, sometimes
Also, DS2 Majula slaps
ok this is just plain and a stupid black and white mindset.... you do realise that with your logic... the 'old' games that (not all) are mechanically superior than modern games still can have a casual that plays an older game casually like GOW3 and it's not always gameplay elsewell.... GAMES are a wide spectrum of entertainment in which games will have a total number of things that movies and books won't replicate while games can do that... just look at how gaming evolved from tetris/ping pong to Doom and half life etc.
I honestly hate the "The new games are for casuals and you're new to the series to enjoy them" mindset.
@@astralchaos3441 newier games do lean toward casuals, but that doesnt mean they lack difficulty and/or depth

Dmc5 is a deep mechanic game with lots to explore
On the contrary, dmc3's normal difficulty is really hard, with enemies that punish you for mashing, traps and platfroming that obliretate your ass
While also being deep
The good stuff is there in both games, its just that in old games its there from the start, in newer games you have to look for the depth and endure the start because its meant for the casual experience
Lets take another example your more familliar with (i guess)
If metal gear rising was a 2020 game, the parry would have its proper button, you'll be able to move during blade mode, cutscenes wont be skipipable, NewGame+ would have to be an update later on, there will be an "auto-aim" for blade mode to get health, the game will force you trough a toutorial (unlike the one we have it let chose whether you Want the toutorial or not).....
And it keeps going
Basically stuff to make it easy for casuals so they wont get intimated by the game
It'd would still be a good game, just with small annoying parts

I would like to say something from the heart:
I've been playing games for decades and I've played over 1300 games and I want to say the point of old games has always been that I have a lot of great mechanics
In addition to Ripley's high value, you will always find that with each new walkthrough you discover more and more things and find more and more ways
Many new games
It feels designed to be a one time play only meaning the mechanics are easy to master and practice
I do not mean all games, but the games have lost the spirit that distinguishes them with the dispersal of huge studios such as Studio Clover from Capcom.
Konami and the creators of the gow series are starting to notice problems with the game's design
In addition to that all parts of gow have been removed a lot of them but the old gameplay system is preparing to make a better story with shorter time and gameplay
It can be renewed and added much more than the current one, so we find that the old games, despite the lack of development, come out almost completely from the gow series more than the modern series The old games contained soul, but the current games contain bags of money I do not mean to generalize all games, but I speak in general. You will always find that everyone in the list prefers old games, at least in the top 3 always.
I don't want to talk too much.

One that i still ended up liking, but i won't claim that it's really that worth playing these days
Otherwise, this was an interesting video, glad to see someone starting a discussion like that
The og gow destroys the new gow
While I do agree with what you say, I just cant like dmc 3 over 5. They're both great games, but like ds1, the game takes a dip in quality halfway through and then gets great again at the final boss. Mission's 13-19 of 3 are so unfun cause of the angels with shields, the stupid spider's, and many other reasons like arkham. I still play dmc 3 now and again but if I'm feeling dmc I go to 5 straight away
That's totally fine. You have no idea for the amount of love and respect that i have for DMC5. I just prefer 3 and don't see how it dips halfway.
